Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that World No Tobacco Day reminds of the harms associated with tobacco consumption and a day to reaffirm our commitment to reduce this menace.

Prime Minister Modi took to Twitter to share his thoughts.

“World No Tobacco Day reminds us of the harms associated with tobacco consumption and a day to reaffirm our commitment to reduce this menace,” he tweeted

“The @WHO’s focus on stopping illicit trade of tobacco products is a laudatory effort that will help in minimising tobacco consumption,” he added.

Alzheimer’s patients more sensitive to pain: Study

People with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of cognitive impairment (CI) may be more sensitive to pain, says a study.

“It appears that those with widespread brain atrophy or neural degeneration…all show increased pain responses and/or greater pain sensitivity,” said one of the researchers Ruth Defrin from University of Tel Aviv, Israel.

The researchers analysed previous studies on pain responses in cognitively impaired patients.

Most studies suggest that the experience of pain is elevated in patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease.

Atali mosque of Ballabhgarh was declared Muslim property by court

Faridabad court pronounced the judgment that the mosque situated at Atali village of Ballabhgarh of Haryana State is a Muslim property. The Court observed that Hindu petitioners had utterly failed to establish that the land belongs to Village Panchayat. It may be noted that communal violence erupted on 26th May in Atali Village. 2,000 heavily armed men set ablaze many Muslim houses and business establishment within a span of one 1 hour. In this communal violence 15 persons were injured. More than 150 Muslim are taking shelter in Ballabhgarh police Station since then.

Odisha dairy co-operative unveils Facebook page

Odisha state-run dairy co-operative Orissa State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation Limited (OMFED) launched a dedicated Facebook page on Sunday in an effort to use the social media to promote its products.

Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister Pradeep Maharathy launched the page – www.facebook.com/theomfed – at a function here.

“The Facebook page will not only help the OMFED in brand building, it will also provide a platform where the customers can discuss products,” the minister said.

Vaginal cancer linked to decreased sexual activity

Women diagnosed with gynecologic cancers may experience reduced sexual activity after treatment, says a study led by an Indian-origin scientist.

The team observed that sexual activity was down from 6.1-6.8 times per month before treatment to 2.6-4.9 times per month post treatment.

Gynecological cancers include cancer of the cervix, uterus, ovaries, vagina and vulva.

“It is a topic that not many people want to talk about because it is uncomfortable,” said Saketh Guntupalli, assistant professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

A new study has shown sexual dysfunction in women following gynecologic cancer treatment.

The University of Colorado Cancer Center study shows that sexual activity goes down from 6.1-6.8 times per month before treatment to 2.6-4.9 times per month after treatment.

Researcher Saketh Guntupalli said that it is a topic that not many people want to talk about because it is uncomfortable, but for scientists it is about maintaining the quality of life after treatment for couples that have gone through it.

Suspected IS member arrested in Bangladesh today

A suspected member of Islamic State (IS) radical group has been arrested in Bangladesh capital Dhaka, a media report said on Sunday.

Police arrested the man on Saturday night, bdnews24.com reported citing Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner S.M. Jahangir Alam Sarker.

Police did not reveal the identity of the person.

Earlier on May 25, two more suspected members of the terror group were arrested from Dhaka’s Uttara and Lalmatia areas, the report said.

Cuban sets record for soccer ball head control

Former Cuban soccer player Erick Hernandez set a new Guinness record by holding soccer ball with head for 30 minutes in Havana on Saturday.

Hernandez held a “Brazuca” ball for 30 minutes and one second with his head, breaking the 22-minute record imposed by the Luis Carlos Garcia, who is also Cuban.

“It was an easy task, because all the conditions were in place, more than ever before,” Xinhua quoted Hernandez as saying.

He said his victory was a result of a hard training, especially focused in strengthening the abdomen muscles.

The death toll due to the scorching heat wave conditions in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana has rose to over 2000.

Differences remain over final nuclear agreement: Iran negotiator

Some enduring differences between Iran and the West over the nuclear programme of the country have hindered the progress in preparing the draft for a possible nuclear agreement, Iran’s senior nuclear negotiator Abbas Araqchi said.

“In the recent round of talks, both sides reviewed all issues, however, differences still remain,” Islamic Republic News Agency quoted Araqchi as saying on Saturday.

He made the remarks following two rounds of meetings between US Secretary of State John Kerry and his Iranian counterpart Mohammad-Javad Zarif in Geneva.

Land ordinance to be re-promulgated again

The Union Cabinet today recommended re-promulgation of the controversial Land Acquisition Ordinance.

The land ordinance will be issued for the third time.

The Ordinance was promulgated for the first time in December last year to amend the 2013 Act. Despite being passed in Lok Sabha, the government did not take it to Rajya Sabha as it lacked numbers there.

The Ordinance was re-promulgated in March this year and will lapse on June 4. The recommendation of the Union Cabinet will be sent to President Pranab Mukherjee for its approval.
