China rejects US criticism of sea reclamations

China today rejected US demands to stop its intensifying reclamation works in the South China Sea, saying it was exercising its sovereignty while helping the rest of the world.

Admiral Sun Jianguo, deputy chief of the general staff department in the People’s Liberation Army, told a security summit in Singapore that “the situation in the South China Sea is on the whole peaceful and stable, and there has never been an issue with the freedom of navigation.”

Woman gang-raped in Kolkata hospital

A woman was allegedly gang-raped by two employees of a hospital here, police said on Sunday. Both atatckers were arrested.

The incident happened on late Friday at RG Kar Hospital.

The woman, a resident of Murshidabad district`s Bahrampur, came to the hospital to visit a relative admitted there when the two accused – employed as liftman – pounced on her, police said.

“On the basis of her complaint filed on Saturday, we have arrested the two accused – Masum Ali Khan and Haider Ali. A medical test on the victim has been conducted and the report is awaited,” said a police officer.

Man arrested with 4 kg gold

A passenger was arrested at Rajiv Gandhi Airport on Saturday. Gold biscuits of 4 kg were seized from his possession. According to details a passenger reached airport from Masqat before alighting the plane, he hid the biscuits in the flight toilet. On a tip-off DRI officials searched the flight and recovered biscuits from the toilet.

ECET 2015 results announced

Chairman Telangana Council for Higher Education Prof. Papi Reddy announced ECET 2015 results. ECET pass percentage is 91.87 percent. He told that notification will be issued on June 29. Classes will be started in the last week of July. Telangana Engineering Common Entrance Test (ECET) is used for admissions in the higher education in Telangana.

Dalit man beaten to death in UP’s Muzaffarnagar

A 30-year-old Dalit man was bricked to death allegedly by two persons over a minor dispute under Bhopa police station area, police said today.

The incident occurred yesterday at Morna village when victim Rajkumar, who was under the influence of alcohol, had a fight with the accused, belonging to the same locality, police said.

The accused, identified as Sagar and Deepak, later attacked Rajkumar with bricks and battered him to death, they said.

A case has been registered against the duo, who is absconding, police said adding that further investigation is on.

Infiltration bid foiled near LoC

Army today foiled an infiltration bid by heavily armed militants near the Line of Control in Tangdhar sector of Kashmir.

“The infiltration bid was foiled in the wee hours today as a group of heavily armed terrorists were crossing the LoC,” an army official said.

He said contact was established with the militants at around 4.30 AM and the exchange of fire between the two sides was going on till reports last came in.

The official said there was no report of any casualties on either side so far.

Prez gives nod to re-promulgation of land ordinance

President Pranab Mukherjee has given nod to re-promulgation of the controversial land ordinance, which could not be converted into law during the recently concluded Budget Session of Parliament, for the third time.

The Union Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had yesterday decided to re-promulgate the ordinance, saying it was necessary for maintaining continuity and providing a framework to compensate people whose land is acquired.

The President has given assent for the re-promulgation of the ordinance, official sources said here today.

Minor Dalit girl gang-raped in UP’s Jansath

A 14-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly gang-raped by two persons in Jansath town here, police said today.

As per the complaint filed by the victim’s father, two persons, in connivance with a woman, gangraped his daughter when she was alone in her house, Jansath SHO Dhannanjay Singh said.

The accused identified as Amjad, his wife Nazia Begum and Noruddin, also threatened to kill the girl if she divulged about the incident to anybody, the SHO said.

The girl has been sent for medical examination.

DLF may close two pvt equity deals by Sept to raise Rs 1,000cr

India’s largest realty firm DLF is looking at closing two private equity deals worth around Rs 1,000 crore by September to part-finance its upcoming housing projects in Chennai and Gurgaon.

DLF had announced plans in February to raise over Rs 3,000 crore through divestment of stakes in certain housing projects to private equity (PE) players.

PM Modi likely to flag off 160-kmph train to Agra next month

Gatimaan Express, the first semi high-speed train service between Delhi and Agra which would touch speeds of up to 160 kmph, is likely to be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the second week of June.

The trials of the semi-high speed train have already been conducted twice on the 200-km-long tracks between the two destinations and awaited now is the mandatory clearance from the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS).

“The clearance from CRS is expected any time and we are gearing up to launch the train by June 9,” said a senior rail ministry official.
