Girl throws acid on boy for rejecting her proposal

A 21-year-old girl threw acid on her boyfriend for turning down her marriage proposal in Rasra area in Ballia district in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday night.

According to police the 22 year old Raj Kumar Pal a resident of Jamgaon village in Rasra police station area, was sleeping on the terrace of his house when the girl from his neighborhood threw acid on his face.

Finance Ministry brings new 3-page ITR forms; file returns by Aug 31

The Finance Ministry today came out with new three-page income tax return (ITR) forms, dropping the controversial provision for mandatory disclosure of foreign trips and dormant bank accounts, while it also extended the last date of filing to August 31.

The new forms — ITR 2 and ITR 2A — will have only three pages and other details will have to be filled in schedules, said a Finance Ministry statement.

Railway catering staff fined Rs 50,000 for overcharging passengers

The catering staff of two trains have been fined Rs 50,000 each for overcharging passengers for food items following a surprise check in Mathura.

In the inspection carried out on Saturday it was found that the catering staff was overcharging passengers in Pune-bound Jhelum Express and Amritsar-bound Sachakhand Express, General Manager NCR Mahesh Mangal said.

The catering staff was also not using a rate-list for the food items being sold. A fine of Rs 50,000 was imposed on both their managers, he added.

President Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday embarked on a five-day state visit to Sweden and Belarus, the first ever by any Indian head of state, during which a number of key agreements are likely to be signed.

12 injured after 7.8-magnitude earthquake shakes Japan

At least 12 people incurred minor injuries as businesses returned to normal a day after a massive 7.8-magnitude earthquake, which originated near remote Japanese islands, shook the country.

The U.S. Geological Survey detected the epicentre of Saturday’s quake to be 189 kilometres off the Ogasawara islands at a depth of 421 miles. However, no tsunami warnings were issued, reported Fox News.

The quake was also followed by a 6.4-magnitude temblor on Sunday morning that struck Japan’s Izu islands , north of the Ogasawaras. (ANI)

Man kills six-year-old son in Telangana

A 30-year-old man in a village near here allegedly killed his son due to some family dispute, police said on Sunday.

N Mallesham (30), who hailed from Chintakunta village in Kathlapur mandal, had gone to his in-laws house in Bhushanraopet village, nearly 80 kms from here, yesterday, Kathlapur police station sub-inspector B Ravi said.

At his in-laws residence, Mallesham broke into a scuffle with his wife and in a fit of rage took away his six- year-old son Manivardhan to the outskirts of the village and threw him into a well near an agricultural field at night, the SI said.

Judge orders woman to walk for 30 miles for bailing on cab fare

An American judge recently ordered a woman to walk 30 miles for not paying the taxi fare for the distance she travelled.

Prosecutors said that Bascom called a taxi to take her the 30 miles from Cleveland to Painesville, having been out at a bar with friends.

The woman told the judge that she got out of the cab with another woman once they reached their destination.

She said that the other two passengers said that they would pay for the taxi but when they couldn’t, the taxi driver came to her door, with the police arriving shortly after, the Independent reported.

EU angry over Russia’s ‘unjustified’ travel ban list

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed his grief over the demise of Beau Biden, the son of US Vice-President Joe Biden.

“Saddened to learn about the passing away of Beau Biden, the eldest son of US Vice-President Joseph Biden, at a young age,” Prime Minister Modi tweeted.

“Apart from a deep loss to the family, a promising public career has been tragically cut short. Our deepest condolences to the Biden family,” he added.

Biden died of brain cancer at the age of 46.

Monsoon to arrive in Kerala soon, says IMD

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday said the south-west monsoon will be delayed by four to five days and is likely to arrive in Kerala in the first week of June.

“Conditions are developing. There is a change in the wind and in the coming days, it will become more stable and monsoon will arrive soon in Kerala,” IMD Director B.P. Yadav said.

He further said that thundershowers are expected in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, northern Rajasthan and western Uttar Pradesh.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat on Sunday said that he has ordered an inquiry into the flood relief scam, adding that strict action would be initiated against those responsible.

Indian family’s house destroyed in Qatar fire

A house belonging to an Indian family in Qatar was destroyed in a fire. The family, however, escaped unharmed, a media report said on Sunday.

The house located near Doha, in a villa compound with illegally partitioned residential units, caught fire likely due to an electrical short circuiting, Peninsula Qatar daily reported.
The husband was not at home at the time of the fire and he advised his wife and son to vacate the house with their passports, the daily said.
