Zimbabwe hire Dav Whatmore as long-term coach

Dav Whatmore has been appointed as Zimbabwe’s cricket coach on a four-year deal, the country’s cricket board confirmed on Thursday.

Whatmore, who coached his birth nation Sri Lanka to the World Cup glory in 1996, was hired as Zimbabwe’s coach in December on an interim basis till the end of the World Cup.

Janata Dal (United) leader KC Tyagi said on Friday that he had a problem with yoga guru Baba Ramdev`s contention that he had a drug that guarantees the birth of a male child. He said he would not have had a problem had Ramdev said that he had a drug to produce children of any gender.

Lauding the NDA government`s `Beti Bachao Beti Padhao` campaign, Tyagi said, “I praise the Prime Minister`s efforts, but on the other hand, this medicine by Baba Ramdev is called `Putrajeevak Beej` and I have a problem with that.”

Hajj pilgrims may face financial burden due to Central Hajj Committee decisions

Due to some decisions taken by Central Hajj Committee in connection with Hajj 2015, Hajj pilgrims may face financial burden and other problems. Central Hajj Committee has selected a building in Makkah Mukarrama for Hajj aspirants belonging to Green Category which does not have kitchen facility. Pilgrims will have to arrange food through either catering or any other source.

No Muslim or Christain can contest on SC seats: Haryana High Court

Muslims or Christians are not eligible to contest the election from a constituency reserved for SCs, ruled Haryana High Court.

As per reports in ET, the court has restricted the eligibility to Hindus, Buddhists and Sikhs and if Muslims and Christians want to contest then embrace Hinduism, Sikhism or Buddhism.

They have to prove that their forefathers originally belonged to a SC and had (forefathers) professed to any of the three aforesaid religions.

Pakistan has no business interfering in India’s internal affairs: BJP

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesman Sambit Patra on Friday said Pakistan has no business interfering in India’s internal affairs.

“Pakistan has no business interfering in the internal affairs of India. And moreover, Kashmiri Pandits, Muslims, and Sikhs form an integral part of Jammu and Kashmir’s demography,” said Patra told ANI.

Aslam had earlier said that any effort to create special townships in Jammu and Kashmir would violate the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, and added that the people of the state are resisting such change.

Sikh group lauds USCIRF for recognising violation against them

A Sikh rights group has commended a US Congress-established panel for recognising “violations against Sikhs” in its annual report on religious freedom.

“Sikhs are often harassed and pressured to reject religious practices and beliefs that are distinct to Sikhism, such as dress, unshorn hair, and the carrying of religious items, including the kirpan,” the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) in its report for 2015.

US makes about-turn with praise for Modi, but brickbats for BJP

Ten years after denying a visa to Narendra Modi, the US has made an about-turn praising the Indian prime minister for his statement in support of religious freedom, but slammed ruling BJP politicians for religious intolerance.

“Since the election, religious minority communities have been subject to derogatory comments by politicians linked to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),” the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) said in its 2015 annual report.

(Siasat News): A man, who had to face double trouble in the form of his father’s second marriage and the loss of his job, ended his life.

This incident occurred in Saeedabad police limits where the deceased Shravan Kumar, 30, hanged himself to death in his house.

He was working in postal department as a temporary employee and recently he was given a break that had put him in great sorrow plus his father’s second marriage had rubbed salt to the wounds.

ECET (FDH) 2015: free coaching for minorities

Petrol prices hiked by Rs 3.96 a litre, diesel by Rs 2.37

After two rounds of cuts, petrol prices were Thursday raised by Rs 3.96 per litre and diesel by Rs 2.37 a litre, tracking global cues.

The increase in petrol and diesel prices will be effective from Thursday midnight.

Prices of petrol in Delhi will be Rs 63.16 a litre from Friday as against the current Rs 59.20; while diesel will cost Rs 49.57 per litre as against Rs 47.20, Indian Oil Corp (IOC), the nation’s largest oil company, said.

IPASE-2015: last date today

According to Controller of Examination Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education, Vidybhawan, Nampally, the last date to pay fee to appear for IPASE scheduled in May/June 2015 is May 1, 2015. This is for 1st year students. Candidates who are registered with Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education who could not pay fee for Intermediate public exams held in March 2015 are eligible to appear in IPASE May 2015. The last date for submitting fee for recounting/photo copy verification is also May 1 2015. Date will not be extended further.

Modi govt slams US panel report on religious freedom, says we take no cognisance

India has strongly reacted to a report by a US Congress-established panel claiming that minorities report in the country have been subjected to “violent attacks” and “forced conversions” after the Modi government assumed power in 2014, saying it does not take cognisance of such reports.

Petrol bomb hurled at Andhra Bank, no casualties

Unidentified motorcycle-borne men on Friday hurled a petrol bomb at an Andhra Bank branch here, police said.

No one was injured in the incident.

The men threw the petrol bomb and fled from the scene, police said.

The incident is suspected to be linked with the gunning down of 20 woodcutters of Tamil Nadu in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh last month.

Noroviruses, a group of viruses responsible for over half of global gastroenteritis cases, can spread by air up to several metres from an infected person, warns a new study.

Gastroenteritis or infectious diarrhoea is a common condition where the stomach and intestines become inflamed.

The new findings suggest that measures applied in hospitals during gastroenteritis outbreaks may be insufficient to effectively contain this kind of infection.

Nepal quake toll rises to 6,166

The toll in the massive earthquake that devastated Nepal has risen to 6,166, the Nepalese home ministry said on Friday.

According to Nepal Police, the total number of injured is over 10,000, Kantipur News reported.

As many as 12,064 houses have been reported destroyed.

“This is just the preliminary data. We are still in the process of assessing the loss,” Deputy Inspector General of Police Kamal Singh Bam was quoted as saying.

Moga’s shame: Young woman alleges gang-rape by friend’s husband

A young woman in Punjab’s Moga district has alleged that she was gang-raped by her friend’s husband and his friends, police said on Friday. The woman’s claim came just hours after the horror story of a girl being killed after being pushed out of a moving bus by her molesters.

The victim, aged 23, claimed that she was gang-raped by her friend’s husband and others on the intervening night of April 29 and 30 (Wednesday and Thursday) at a secluded house in Marhi Mustafa village near Moga, 180 km from here.

Insomnia tied to to lower pain tolerance

People suffering from insomnia and other sleep problems have increased sensitivity to pain, a new research, involving over 10,000 adults, has found.

The study underscores the need for efforts to improve sleep among patients with chronic pain and vice versa.

The results suggest that psychological factors may contribute to the relationship between sleep problems and pain, but they do not fully explain it.
