Foreign Secretary, NSA ask agencies to focus on rescue work in remote areas of Nepal

Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, who arrived in earthquake-hit Kathmandu today, said the rescue operations in remote areas should be given priority and added that the relief materials should reach the victims in time.

The duo, who conducted an aerial survey, also directed all the Indian agencies to carry the relief and rescue operations in full swing in the quake ravaged nation.

Doval praised the rescue operations carried out by different groups.

NGT puts ten-year-old diesel vehicles plying ban on hold till May 18

The National Green Tribunal on Friday gave authorities in the national capital two more weeks to implement its ban on ten-year old diesel-run vehicles. The NGT has put its order on hold till May 18.

The Supreme Court had earlier in the month dismissed a plea against the NGT’s order banning old vehicles from plying in the national capital.

The apex court reportedly observed that the tribunal should be assisted and not discouraged on the matter.

Congress says fuel price hike is ‘insensitive’

The Congress party on Friday criticized the Government for the latest fuel price hike and said that it reflected insensitivity on the part of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre.

“This is totally uncalled for in a very better situation of international oil pricing. I think this deserves to be condemned all around. It shows the insensitivity of the government to the common man. It shows that all (Prime Minister) Modi and BJP talk about is rhetoric,” Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said.

Rice trader attempts suicide due to alleged harassment by tax officers

A rice trader who hails from Warangal district attempted suicide by consuming poison. 42-year-old, G Krishna R/O Jangaon runs a wholesale rice business. Officials of Commercial Tax and Revenue Department raided his godown two days ago and warned him of strict action on non-payment of tax. Distraught over this the man consumed poison.

It is believed that reporter of a local TV channel of Jangaon had allegedly prompted the officials for the raid. However police has not confirmed this. G Krishna has been admitted in Aditya Hospital Uppal where his condition is said to be critical.

India’s early warning system world class: Harsh Vardhan

In the wake of the Nepal earthquake, union Minister of Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Harsh Vardhan on Friday asserted that India’s early warning systems are “world class”.

He dismissed recent reports that alleged the country’s monitoring and alert systems are not up to date.

“There is no technology to predict earthquakes. India’s early warning system is world class. Even for many other countries around the ocean, we are the ones helping them,” Vardhan told the media here.

He was visiting the Indian Association For the Cultivation of Science.

Jayalalithaa opposes fuel price hike

Slamming the recent hike in prices of petrol and diesel, AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today demanded revision of the price fixation policy for petroleum products.

“The increase in prices of petrol and diesel effected by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) will result in the rates of all commodities going up. The lives of ordinary people will be impacted due to this,” she said.

The hike will result in inflation going up further, she said in a statement here.

Jayalalithaa reiterated her stand that the existing price fixation formula for petroleum products be changed.

Uttarakhand on alert over possible exodus from Nepal

Uttarakhand Government has asked the intelligence wing of the state police to keep an eye on possible mass exodus from Nepal to the state following the massive earthquake that hit the Himalayan country on April 25.

“We have alerted the intelligence network along the 275-km border the state shares with Nepal to keep an eye on possible mass exodus following the earthquake in Nepal,” Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) Ashok Kumar said here today.

Woman pulled out from wreckage 128 hours after Nepal quake

A 24-year-old woman has been pulled out alive from the wreckage of a building in Nepal, 128 hours after a deadly 7.9-magnitude tremblor devastated the Himalayan nation.

Krishna Devi Khadka was rescued by a joint team of Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Israeli rescue team from Janasewa Guest House in Gonggabu village yesterday, ekantipur reported.

Khadka was buried under the rubbles of the collapsed guest house. She was rescued five days after the deadly earthquake struck the country on Saturday.

Centre to award road projs worth Rs 15,000 crore in North-East

In a boost to infrastructure development in the North-East, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari today said the government will award road projects worth Rs 15,000 crore in the region by December.

“Of the total Rs 15,000 crore road projects envisaged for the North-East, Rs 6,000 crore worth highways will be developed in Arunachal Pradesh, Rs 2,000 crore projects each in Nagaland and Meghalaya and the remaining ones in other parts of the region,” Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said here.

22-year-old girl gang raped in moving car in UP

A 22-year-old girl was allegedly gang raped by an acquaintance and his two friends in a moving car before being dumped in the forest near Ajrada village here, police said today.

The girl, a resident of Nagina in Bijnor district was found unconscious yesterday in the forests near Ajrada village after being raped by three youths, Station Incharge of Mundali police station, Wasim Khan said.

Microsoft will not launch Windows 10 on phone this summer

Microsoft has announced that the phone version of its Windows 10 operating system will not be launched this summer.

Joe Belfiore, Corporate Vice President, Operating Systems Group at Microsoft said that the phone builds have not been as far along as PC builds.

Belfiore also said that from the device view, their main focus is to kick off the Windows 10 launch wave with a great launch on the PC. Users should expect that the other devices like phone, HoloLens, Xbox, Surface Hub will be staggered.

Microsoft’s machine-learning team has launched a website Howold.net on trial bases recently at the BUILD conference that will let a person upload a picture , and then will quickly analyze the individual, and spits out an estimated age, TechCrunch reported.

The new age guessing website requires an under 3MB well-lit photo to evaluate one’s age right away with the help of their robot.
