Fire kills four of a family in Shimla

Four people of a family were charred to death in a fire in a village near Shimla.

The fire, which broke out late on Thursday, claimed four lives, including two children.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and police say investigation into the case is in its primary stage.

“Four people have died in this fire, a man, his wife and their two young children. Investigation is in the primary stage and the post-mortem reports are awaited. Forensic team will determine the cause of the fire,” said police officer Dushyant Sarpal.

Nepal earthquake badly affects Varanasi’s Rudraksh beads business

The earthquake in Nepal has badly affected the export of Rudraksh beads and necklaces to the temple town of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.

Nepal is one of the major suppliers of Rudraksh to India.

More than 10,000 people in Varanasi are engaged in this business. The Rudraksh is used to offer prayers to Lord Shiva.

“Due to the quake in Nepal, 60 to 70 per cent of our business has been affected. We don’t know when the business will get back on track. It is a matter of concern,” said a businessman, Ramji.

President Mukherjee to confer awards at 62nd National Film Awards

The 62nd National Film Awards are scheduled to be held on May 3 at Vigyan Bhawan, where Indian President Pranab Mukherjee will confer the awards to the winners. The president will also be giving a Dada Saheb Phalke award.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore will also be present on the occasion.

Villagers convinced to get branded as Naxalites: Congress

Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC) president Sukhdeo Bhagat today alleged that 514 innocent villagers in Jharkhand had been convinced to get branded as Naxalites and made to surrender with false promise of providing them jobs under the state government’s Surrender and Rehabilitation policy by the BJP-led government in 2011.

Addressing a press conference here, Bhagat said the previous Hemant Soren-headed JMM/Congress/RJD dispensation had recommended a CBI probe in this regard but nothing was done yet by the present regime to follow up the case.

Rafael Nadal conferred with highest civilian honour by Spanish PM

King Cobra retrieved after it sneaks into residential area in Kerala

A ten-foot-long cobra was retrieved from a residential area in KOthamangalam, Kerala, on Friday.
The female cobra, which was first spotted near a kitchen, later found refuge under a stone structure in Vadattupara Village near the Kothamangalam Forests.

The snake was captured by expert snake catcher Martin Meekamali.

He said it was quite tough to catch it.

The cobra has since been released into a nearby forest.

Meekamali is the president of the All Kerala Snake Protectors’ Association and has handled over 100 snakes so far. (ANI)

A home owner has built a miniature replica of Dubai’s famous Burj Al Arab in Phagwara, Punjab.
Called Burj Ali, the miniature in a village of the state’s Kapurthala District, is a three-storied rural luxurious farmhouse, where people from the nearby villages, especially from the NRI belt, come to savour the food and feel the milieu of Dubai.

Although the building has been in existence for quite some time, it has only recently drawn attention after its images hit social media platforms.

ISIS militants open first five-star hotel for fighters in Iraq

Islamic State (IS) militants have opened its first five-star hotel for fighters in need of rest and recreation in war-ravaged Iraq.

According to the Daily Star, the hotel apparently does not cater to booze, dancing, music, smoking or gambling, and women must dress head-to-toe in black including gloves.

The Ninawa Hotel’s 262 rooms have been reserved for visiting commanders but it will be opened for weddings so that jihadi brides can marry fighters.

Opposition National Conference on Saturday said they will not let Jammu and Kashmir government to set up separate colonies for Kashmiri Pandits but would strive for return of the minority community to their native places in the Valley.

Nepal quake: China, US, Britain to send more choppers

Nepal has requested China,the US and Britain to send more helicopters for assistance in the relief and rescue operations in the earthquake-hit country, an official said on Saturday.

The Himalayan nation was jolted by a massive earthquake on April 25, measuring 7.9 on Richter Scale, which has killed over 6,600, injured more than 16,500 and left millions displaced.

A senior Nepal government official told IANS that China, US and Britain has been requested to send more helicopters to handle the situation, the nation is dealing with, after the quake.
