Hoax Bomb call creates Tension at Secunderabad Railway Station

There was a mild tension at Secunderabad railway station following a bomb call in the afternoon on Sunday.

An unknown caller informed police that a bomb was planted at platform number three inside the railway station and it may go off any time.

Immediately after receiving the call, security personnel with bomb and dog squads reached the busiest Secunderabad railway station and conducted thorough searches, police said adding that it was a hoax call.

Kishan Reddy launches two national schemes in Amberpet

Pakistan sets up special fund for quake-hit Nepal

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has set up a special relief fund for the quake-hit people of Nepal, a top official said on Sunday.

Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry said at a news conference here that Pakistanis at home and abroad can send their contributions to the fund, Xinhua news agency reported.

A senior official of the country’s disaster management agency said Pakistan has earmarked $3-4 million for relief activities in Nepal.

Pakistan has already sent six C-130 aircraft loaded with relief consignments, including tents, medicines and food items, to Kathmandu.

Hero’s fuel economy claim of 102.5 km/litre misleading: Honda

Japanese auto maker Honda has questioned its erstwhile Indian partner Hero’s claim of 102.5 km/litre fuel economy rate for Splendor iSmart bike, saying “such claims are misleading and are far from reality”.

The Indian firm, Hero MotoCorp on its part hit back saying its fuel efficiency values were certified by iCAT (International Centre for Automotive Technology), a government authorised agency, and “challenging these test results” mean “questioning the standards and regulations established by the Government of India, and in turn, the law of the land in our country”.

Oberoi Realty Q4 net up 34% at Rs 103 cr

Oberoi Realty Ltd on Friday reported 34 per cent increase in consolidated net profit at Rs 103.02 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2015.

The company’s consolidated net profit stood at Rs 77.03 crore in the year-ago period.

The consolidated revenue rose to Rs 349.33 crore for January-March quarter of 2014-15 fiscal as against Rs 228.49 crore in the year-ago period.

“The consolidated profit after tax for 2014-15 is Rs 317.12 crore as against Rs 311.06 crore for FY14,” Mumbai-based firm said in a statement.

Tension grips Haryana village as vehicles torched

Police reinforcements were rushed to Haryana`s Tigra village early Sunday after few vehicles were set on fire, police said.

Tension had been brewing in the village, 120 km from here, in Yamunanagar district for past few days between the Dalit and Rajput communities.

“There was tension between both sides over the issue. A compromise was reached yesterday (Saturday) between them. However, some people set the vehicles on fire late last night. We are investigating,” a police official told IANS.

Juvenile Justice Bill likely to be introduced in LS this week

A bill which seeks to try juveniles in the age group of 16 to 18 years accused of heinous crimes under laws for adults is likely to be introduced in the Lok Sabha this week.

Overruling the recommendations of a parliamentary panel for its re-examination, the Cabinet cleared Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Bill, 2014 on April 22.

Government sources said the bill is likely to be introduced this week.

David Beckham praises wife for ‘amazing’ b-day

Nepal bans big aircraft from landing

Nepal has imposed restrictions on heavy aircraft transporting humanitarian aid to Nepal to prevent further damage to the five-decade-old runway at the Tribhuvan International Airport here.

The decision means that planes weighing more than 196 tonnes will not be permitted to land.

A senior government official told IANS that some Western countries have sought permission to land big jets carrying relief materials following the April 25 killer earthquake.

However, the restrictions do not apply to scheduled international flights, whatever the type of the aircraft.

Genetic link between child prodigies and autism found

Researchers have found the first evidence of a genetic link between prodigy and autism.

The finding may help explain why the two groups share certain characteristics, such as exceptionally good memories.

Researchers looked at DNA from 12 children with extraordinary abilities in music, mathematics or other fields.

They also looked at 39 other people who were all members of the children’s families, including 10 family members who had autism, and four prodigies who also had autism, Live Science reported.

Dinosaur-killing asteroid created Deccan Traps?

The asteroid that fell into the ocean off Mexico 66 million years ago and killed the dinosaurs also triggered volcanic eruptions creating the Deccan Traps in India, suggests a US team of geophysicists.

The asteroid explained the “uncomfortably close” coincidence between the Deccan Traps eruptions and the impact.

The Deccan eruptions are among the largest mapped lava flows on the Earth occurring 66 million years ago.

Oman offers amnesty to illegal migrant workers

The Oman government on Sunday announced amnesty for undocumented expatriate workers in the Gulf nation.

The amnesty period, that ends on July 30, will allow illegal migrant workers to return to their countries without facing penal action.

According to official reports, there are around 50,000 undocumented expatriate workers in Oman.

A majority of these workers are from Asian countries.

According to a report in the Times of Oman, the last amnesty was announced in 2009, when around 60,000 undocumented workers returned to their homes.

Gastrointestinal tumours can lead to additional cancers

Patients suffering from gastrointestinal tumours are at increased risk of contracting other cancers, says a study.

One in 5.8 patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST) will develop additional malignancies before and after their diagnosis, the results indicated.

Specifically, patients with GIST are more likely to develop other sarcomas, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, carcinoid tumours, melanoma, colorectal, oesophageal, pancreatic, hepatobiliary, prostate and renal cell cancers.

10 members of wedding party killed in Pakistan

At least 10 wedding guests were killed and many others injured when high power electric wires fell on their van in Pakistan’s Sindh province on Sunday morning.

The accident happened around 10.40 a.m. in Dadu district, Xinhua news agency reported.

The van was carrying guests from Dadu to a neighbouring town when the accident happened.

The bride and the groom are safe as they were not in the van.

Police said that the van caught fire after the cables fell on it.

The injured people were shifted to a nearby hospital where at least two of them were in critical condition.

The president of the Republic of Congo’s Islamic High Council has announced that full face-veils will be banned to prevent violent extremism in the country.

According to the Independent, Muslims are a minority in the Republic of Congo, in central Africa, bordered by Gabon, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Angolan enclave of Cabinda.

Fresh tremors hit Nepal on Sunday

A week after a magnitude 7.9 earthquake jolted Nepal, three tremors were recorded on Sunday in different parts of the Himalayan nation.

According to the National Seismological Centre, a quake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale with its epicentre in Sindhupalchowk district was recorded at 3.29 a.m. It was followed by two aftershocks of four magnitude each in Dhading and Gorkha districts.

As a magnitude four aftershock, with its epicentre in Dhadig district, was recorded at 4.25 a.m another tremor, having its epicentre in Gorkha district, was observed at 5.57 a.m., authorities said.
