Two policemen among nine robbed in Rajasthan

Nine persons, including two policemen were allegedly robbed by armed miscreants in the district while returning from Uttar Pradesh after recovering two girls who had gone missing, police said today.

The incident occurred in the wee hours yesterday near Hantra village where 7-8 robbers stopped the vehicle of the victims and robbed them of their valuables. They tied their hands before leaving the place, they said.

HMDA to filled vacancies soon

Within a few days of taking charge, Commissioner Shalini Mishra Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), had terminated services of 170 outsourced employees and 77 officials on deputation resulted in arising of fresh vacancies.

Official sources in HMDA informed that the metropolitan commissioner had inspected each department and prepared a preliminary report on the strength required for the smooth functioning of each unit. She has written letters to several HoDs asking them send surplus staff to HMDA,” he said.

UN appeals for $415m earthquake aid for disaster stricken Nepal

The United Nations recently appealed for 415 million dollars for Nepal, stating it urgently needs more funds to provide relief to people affected by the devastating earthquake .

Saudi ambassador to Pakistan Ambassador Jassim Bin Mohammad Al-Khalidi has said that Saudi Arabia is miffed with Pakistan’s decision to stay away from the alliance against Houthi rebels in Yemen.

According to the Express Tribune, Al-Khalidi, pointing to Pkaistani parliament’s resolution, asked “how would Pakistanis feel if we do the same with you in the time of crises.”

Al-Khalidi said that Saudi Arabia is still hoping Pakistan would join the alliance, even if only for reconstruction and humanitarian work.

Survivors of premature births may have lung of elderly

By the time they reach their early 20s, adult survivors of premature births may have a lung capacity that resembles the healthy elderly or casual smokers, says a study. (12:30)

The researchers compared the lung function of adults who were born at less than 32 weeks gestational age to adults born full-term.

The study found premature infants are at increased risk for contracting bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), a chronic respiratory condition mainly affecting infants born less than 28 weeks of age.

Changing blood types comes closer

Canadian researchers, including one of Indian origin, have now developed a way to transform all donated blood into a neutral type that can be given to any patient.

The researchers have created an enzyme that could potentially pave the way for changing blood types.

The enzyme works by snipping off the sugars, also known as antigens, found in Type-A and Type-B blood, making it more like Type-O.

Type-O blood is known as the universal donor and can be given to patients of all blood types.

Australia readies aircraft to rescue nationals from Nepal

Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) planes are ready to rescue Australians stranded in the earthquake-hit Nepal, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said on Thursday.

Bishop said more than 1,400 Australians have so far been found, although some were yet to be located, Xinhua news agency reported.

About 80 Australians have sought refuge in the Australian embassy in Kathmandu since the earthquake hit Nepal.

Bishop said the federal government decided to airlift Australians out of Kathmandu because of deteriorating health and safety conditions and the limited availability of commercial flights.

Passengers suffer as Haryana bus staff go on strike

With state roadways, private buses and taxis going off the road, thousands of passengers had to face harrowing time across Haryana on Thursday.
