Pakistan’s legendary singing sensation Noor Jehan’s grandson Sikander Rizvi will be making his big screen debut alongside “Raja Natwarlal” actress Humaima Malick in upcoming film “Dekh Magar Pyaar Say”.

Directed by Asad-ul-Haq, the romantic-comedy, which starts production later this month, is expected to release in late 2015.

Three naval ships to evacuate Indians from Yemen

The Indian Navy on Wednesday said it has deployed three ships to help in the evacuation of Indian nationals from strife-torn Yemen.

A navy release said INS Sumitra, an offshore patrol vessel, which was deployed for anti-piracy patrol in the Gulf of Aden, has evacuated some 350 Indian nationals from Yemen to Djibouti.

Djibouti, a country neighbouring Yemen, is located on the Horn of Africa in the Gulf of Aden.

IS attacks Palestinian refugee camp in Syria

The Islamic State (IS) terrorist group on Wednesday captured the southern part of a main Palestinian refugee camp south of Syria’s capital Damascus, sources told Xinhua news agency.

IS militants advanced into the Yarmouk Camp from the nearby district of Hajar al-Asawad, located south of the camp, said Khaled Abdul-Majid, a Palestinian politician and head of the Palestinian Struggle Front.

The IS militants captured the streets of Oruba and Taqadum and part of the Safad street south of the camp, he added.

In a remark that could land him in trouble, Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Tuesday allegedly advised the agitating nurses that they should not stage hunger strike in the sun because it will make them ‘dark’ and ‘ruin their marital prospects’.

“When we met the Chief Minister over our demands at Ponda today, he said the girls should not sit on hunger strike in hot sun as their complexion will become dark and they will not find a good bridegroom,” said Anusha Sawant, one of the nurses.

Detlev Guenzel, 57, went on trial in August over the killing of Polish-born Wojciech Stempniewicz, a business consultant, at the defendant’s home, a bed-and-breakfast inn in the mountain town of Hartmannsdorf-Reichenau near the Czech border, in November 2013.

Centre allocates Rs 32 crore to Delhi for Swachh Bharat Mission

The Centre has allocated about Rs 32 crore to Delhi Government for construction of household and public toilets under the Swachh Bharat Mission for the fiscal 2014-15.

The target for Delhi is to construct 1,25,298 toilets in individual houses and 11,138 public facilities, besides putting in place solid waste management projects in three areas of the capital. The allocation of the funds for Delhi in the total mission period is Rs 1,684.38 crore, of which the central share is Rs 209.6 crore.

Swiss study names Messi No 1, Ronaldo 29th best forward in Europe

Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi has been declared as the best forward, while Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo was ranked 29th best striker in Europe’s top five leagues, according to a new study.

The study, conducted by the CIES Observatory in Switzerland, ranked all players from the European football leagues , which included Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1 and La Liga in 2015.

According to the study, Messi tops the chart as the best forward and is followed by Bundesliga-based duo Arjen Robben and Bas Dost, the Mirror reported.

HRD Ministry rejects media report of UGC being scrapped

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has rejected media reports of the University Grants Commission (UGC) being scrapped.

Describing the news report as incorrect and uncalled for, the ministry in a statement said on Wednesday that it has constituted a committee of experienced and credible academicians to recommend the restructuring and strengthening of the UGC for attaining even better performance to meet the desired objective.

It said that the committee headed by Dr. Hari Gautam has submitted their report to the Secretary (Higher Education).

Rs 1 crore for Delhi policemen who die on duty

The Delhi government has decided to give Rs 1 crore as compensation to the families of Delhi Police personnel who die on duty, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced on Tuesday.

“Any employee of the Delhi Police or other armed forces associated with the Delhi government and serving in Delhi will be provided Rs 1 crore compensation if they die on duty,” Sisodia told reporters.

“We will create a separate fund in this connection. The allocation of this fund will also be included in the budget,” he added.

School girl shot dead by office boy in Bengaluru

An 18-year-old girl student was shot dead in her school premises here by an office attendant for spurning his advances, police said on Wednesday.

“We have registered a case against the accused (Mahesh, 30) who is absconding from the school, and have set up three special teams to hunt him down,” city police commissioner M.N. Reddi told reporters here.

Gauthami was a student of second year pre-university course at Pragathi school in the city’s eastern suburb and was staying in the girls hostel as she hailed from Pavagada in Tumakuru district, about 70 km from here.

Asus planning to launch new PC on stick ‘Chromebit’

Asus is planning to launch a new PC-on-a-stick version, called the Asus Chromebit, which has the new Chrome OS.

According to CNET, the Chromebit looks like a large USB thumb drive, and connects via HDMI to a monitor or television, giving users instant access to Chrome OS and all its features. The stripped-down, always on operating system is essentially a Chrome Web browser, augmented by some basic OS file functions.

The Asus Chromebit has a Rockchip 3288 processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB for storage and has a full-size USB 2.0 port for connecting accessories.
