Realtor shot at by bike-borne assailants

An astrologer-cum-realtor was shot by two bike-borne assailants outside his house at Jinkala Bavi Colony under Saroornagar police station limits on Wednesday afternoon.

The victim identified as Kuraparti Nagaraju, 55, suffered two bullet injuries in his stomach and one in the thigh. He was rushed to Sai Sanjeevini Hospital at Kothapet by his family members where his condition is reported to be critical.

Factory worker dies of electrocution

A 21-year-old worker of a private company died of electrical burn injuries which he sustained at his workplace in Nacharam police limits.

The deceased, Sanjay Bangda, a native of Assam, got electrocuted while working at Ambika Company in Mallapur area on March 30. He was admitted to Gandhi Hospital where he died on Tuesday night. (INN)

32yr old killed in road accident

A 32-year-old man died of injuries which he sustained when the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a private ambulance.

According to Vanasthalipuram police, the accident occurred near an electrical show room in Vanasthalipuram on Tuesday. The victim, C Raju, was immediately rushed to a private hospital where he succumbed on Wednesday while undergoing treatment. He was a baker and resident of Bathukamma Kunta in Amberpet. (INN)

ICC president quits over World Cup trophy giving row

International Cricket Council (ICC) president Mustafa Kamal resigned on Wednesday, protesting against not being allowed to present the World Cup trophy and calling it a “flagrant violation” of the world body’s constitution.

The ICC confirmed Kamal’s resignatio and said its board will decide on the vacant position at its forthcoming meeting in Dubai on April 15-16.

Indian cricket board chief Jagmohan Dalmiya refused to comment on the development.

Haryana IAS officer Khemka gets another transfer

First batch of 175 Indians from Yemen to arrive in Kochi

The first batch of 175 Indians — 135 from Kerala and 40 from Tamil Nadu — will land at the airport here after midnight, a Kerala minister said on Wednesday.

Minister for Diaspora K.C. Joseph told IANS that he was presently on his way driving down to Kochi to receive them.

“Information that we are now getting is limited from Yemen. What we are told is that this is the first batch and they are those people from Yemen who travelled to Djibouti by ship and from there they were put on a flight to Kochi,” said Joseph.

The flight left after 8 p.m. Indian time, he said.

Over 1,000 killed in Iraqi violence in March: UN

A total of 1,039 Iraqis were killed and 2,172 others injured in terrorist attacks and violence in March in Iraq, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).

The statement said 729 civilians, including 42 policemen, and 268 Iraqi security forces personnel were killed, while 1,785 other civilians, including 98 policemen, and 387 security members were wounded, Xinhua reported citing the UNAMI statement.

Nun rape case: Four Bangladeshi suspects held in Punjab

Four Bangladeshi nationals have been detained in Punjab’s industrial city of Ludhiana in connection with the gang rape of an elderly nun in West Bengal last month, police said on Wednesday.

The Punjab Police is now awaiting the arrival of their counterparts from West Bengal to identify and question the four men.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Navin Singla told the media here on Wednesday that the four Bangladeshi nationals were detained from Ludhiana’s Motinagar area.

Drunk soldier harasses woman in train, held

A soldier was arrested for harassing a woman in a moving train in Madhya Pradesh, an official said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred late on Tuesday night in the Rajdhani Express train heading to Delhi from Bilaspur when a soldier, identified as Kamlesh Prasad, attempted to molest a woman who then informed the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway’s Special Police Commissioner Maithli Sharan Gupt told mediapersons.

Prasad was drunk when arrested at Bhopal railway station, the official said.

Special prosecutor in criminal case for all stages, SC told

Former Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa on Wednesday told the Supreme Court that when a lawyer is appointed special public prosecutor in the trial of a criminal case, then the appointment was not co-terminus with the pronouncement of the verdict by the trial court but holds good even at all stages of appeal.

Jayalalithaa was convicted by a Bengaluru court in a disproportionate assets case. She was sentenced to four jail terms and Rs.100 crore fine on September 27, 2014.

Centre to intervene in Haryana-Punjab issues

The central government will prepare a roadmap within 45 days to find a solution to the water-sharing issues between Haryana and Punjab, a central minister told Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday.

Union Minister for Water Resources Uma Bharti pledged in New Delhi that the central government would prepare a roadmap within 45 days for finding a solution to the Sutlej Yamuna Link Canal (SYL) and other inter-state issues with Punjab.

“A meeting of the two chief ministers would be organized for the purpose in Chandigarh,” Bharti told Khattar.
