Kristen Stewart approached for Ang Lee’s film

Actress Kristen Stewart is in talks to star in “Life of Pi” director Ang Lee’s film “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk”, an adaptation of Ben Fountain’s eponymous novel.

TriStar and Film4 are partnering with Studio 8 on the film, which stars newcomer Joe Alwyn and Garrett Hedlund, reports hollywoodreporter.com.

‘Helen’ not biopic of actress Helen: Poonam Pandey

Actress Poonam Pandey, who made her Bollywood debut with the bold film “Nasha”, will next be seen in a movie titled “Helen”. She has clarified that the project is not a biopic on the yesteryear’s dancing diva Helen.

Poonam told IANS: “Helen is not a biopic on the great Helenji. Helen in our film just draws a feeling from the great dancing actress. At this point of time, I can’t reveal much about my character.”

While Poonam claims that the film is not a biopic, sources say that there is a famous Helen dance number in the film, and Poonam has been doing workshops for the same.

Former minister’s son guns down Lahore teenager

A former Pakistani minister’s son gunned down a 15-year-old boy in Lahore after a minor road accident, police said on Thursday.

According to police officials, Mustafa Kanju also injured a passerby when he and his three guards opened fire following a minor road accident involving his vehicle and a motorcycle at Cavalry Ground in Lahore Cantonment, Geo News reported.

Mustafa Kanju is son of Pakistan’s former minister of state for foreign affairs Siddique Kanju.

The slain boy was identified as Zain, who, police said, was a student of Class 9. The injured youth is his friend Hasnain.

“My films are commercial. I don’t give any speech (on social issues) in my films. As an actor, I have always chosen different subjects like ‘OMG: Oh My God!’ was on religion, ‘Baby’ was on terrorism, and ‘Gabbar Is Back’, which is on corruption. I feel it’s up to the audience how to take it,” Akshay said here.

California to have water rations

For the first time in its history drought-ravaged California, which has been seen as America’s richest state, has imposed mandatory water restrictions requiring residents, businesses and farms to reduce usage by 25 percent over the next nine months and has even ordered its expansive golf courses to use less water.

Giriraj clarified, matter ends, says BJP

The row over union Minister Giriraj Singh’s remark on Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s skin colour has ended as the minister has clarified, the BJP said on Thursday.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary Ram Madhav told reporters: “Giriraj Singh has clarified about his comment, matter ends.”

In a major security breach, a woman masquerading as a trainee IAS officer stayed at the prestigious Lal Bahadur Shastri Administrative Academy in Mussoorie, a place among top targets of terrorists, for over six months without the knowledge of the authorities.

The civil service recruits training academy learnt about the woman and her prolonged stay at the institute when she had already left on March 27, Dehradun SSP Pushpak Jyoti said.

Two minor sisters kidnapped, gang-raped by 5 at gun point in Badaun

Two minor girls, both cousins, were allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped at gun point by five persons in Jareef Nagar area here, almost a year after a similar incident in the district had stirred Uttar Pradesh and opposition had attacked the government over law and order.

The accused, two of them brothers, held the girls captive at gun point when they had ventured out of home for some work last night, Senior Superintendent of Police Saumitra Yadav said here today, adding the girls were gang-raped by them.

ACB arrests Maha government official for accepting bribe

A senior official of Maharashtra government’s Law and Judiciary Department was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) here today for allegedly accepting bribe, ACB said today.

The officer, M Kadam an Under Secretary in the Department, was arrested while accepting the first installment of a Rs four-lakh bribe from a candidate seeking appointment to a notary’s post in the department.

The complainant approached Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis after the under secretary asked for the bribe.

G C Murmu appointed as Jt Sec in Department of Expenditure

Senior Gujarat bureaucrat G C Murmu, considered as a close confidante of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was today appointed as Joint Secretary in Department of Expenditure.

Murmu, a 1985-batch IAS officer of Gujarat cadre, was the Principle Secretary to Modi during his tenure as Chief Minister.

Four dead, 16 injured in fiery blast at Mexico oil rig

An explosion and a fire erupted on an offshore oil platform operated by Mexico’s Pemex on today, killing at least four workers, injuring 16 and forcing 300 to be evacuated.

Eight firefighting vessels were battling the pre-dawn blaze at the Abkatun A-Permanente platform on the Gulf of Mexico’s Campeche Sound, the state-run firm said in a statement.

The blast took place at 3:40 am in the dehydration and pump area of the platform, located off the coast of eastern Campeche state, the ASEA energy safety agency said in a separate statement.

Indian techie dies in Australia after falling from third floor

A 29-year-old Indian IT analyst died on Thursday after allegedly falling from the balcony of the third floor of an apartment in Sydney, police said.

According to local police, the victim, identified as Pankaj Saw, was talking on the phone, to his wife in India, when he fell from the balcony in Macquarie Park at about 1.00 am, local time, today.

“About 1 am (Thursday, April 2), emergency services were called in to a unit block on Cottonwood Crescent, following reports of a man falling from a balcony,” a NSW Police statement said.

Two cops killed in firing in Telangana

Two policemen were killed on Thursday and as many injured after an unidentified person opened fire on them while they were questioning passengers during checking of vehicles in Nalgonda district of Telangana in the wee hours.

The incident occurred at around 12.30 am at a bus stand in Suryapet town when a police team, led by circle inspector (CI) Moghalaiah, was carrying out checking of vehicles, they said.

Andhra Pradesh govt approves Amaravathi as new capital

The Andhra Pradesh Government on Wednesday decided to name the new capital of the state which is coming up in Vijayawada-Guntur region as ‘Amaravathi’, after the ancient seat of power of the Satavahanas.

The resolution to this effect was passed by the state cabinet which met under Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Amaravathi is located in Guntur district and the same name is adopted for the capital in view of its historical, spiritual and mythological significance, Naidu said.

Israel reports successful test of missile-defense system

Israeli officials announced today that a joint US-Israeli missile-defense system has successfully passed a new test and is expected to be operational next year a development that would provide an important tool in protecting the country against Hezbollah militants in Lebanon.

The Defense Ministry said the David’s Sling system had successfully intercepted targets in a series of tests conducted with the US Missile Defense Agency, calling it a “major milestone.”

Arrested Maoist falls sick, referred to RIMS

A hard-core arrested Maoist was referred to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi when he consumed something soon after production in a court in Dumka district today, a Central Jail official said.

Jamesh Murmu, who was booked under various sections of IPC including murder and was incarcerated in the Dumka Central Jail since August 2011, was taken for production in the court of District Judge Virendra Pratap Singh.

However, when as he was being taken back to jail, he consumed something in the van and started vomiting, said Dumka Central Jail Jailer U N Gupta.
