Imagine applying a perfume that smells better the more you sweat as you go out to woo your girl! One such “wonder” perfume is here, say scientists at the Queen’s University, Belfast.

The team from the Queen’s University Ionic Liquid Laboratories (QUILL) research centre has developed a unique perfume delivery system which releases more of its aroma when it comes into contact with moisture, meaning a person smells nicer when his sweat levels increase.

People who are anxious going into an interview often do not get hired, found the researchers.

The study, published in Springer’s Journal of Business and Psychology, found that organisations often reject potential candidates with interview jitters who are otherwise quite capable of doing the job.

Black holes do not gobble up information: Study

The “information loss paradox” in black holes — a problem that has plagued physics for nearly 40 years since Stephen Hawking first proposed that black holes could radiate energy and evaporate over time — may not exist at all, researchers report.

“According to our work, information is not lost once it enters a black hole. It does not just disappear,” said Dejan Stojkovic, associate professor of physics at the University at Buffalo.

Israeli youth stages own abduction, found

An Israeli youth who was presumed to be kidnapped in the West Bank was found alive, after he apparently fabricated his abduction, authorities said on Friday.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) on Thursday announced that it was conducting extensive searches near the village of Beit Anan in the Hebron area, following a police report on a suspected abduction of the youth, Xinhua news agency reported.

“Following extensive searches, initial indications of abduction were proven false,” a military spokesperson said, adding that apparently “the entire plot was a planned prank”.

Indian couple found dead in Srinka, probe launched

The Sri Lankan police on Friday said a probe has been launched into the death of an Indian couple whose bodies were discovered in a hotel here on Thursday.

The couple were residing in the hotel since March 27, Xinhua news agency reported. They were between 30-35 years of age.

“We believe it is a double suicide but investigations have been launched to probe the deaths,” a police official said.

The bodies were discovered after the hotel owner informed the police that the couple had not come out of their room since Wednesday.

Flight with 176 stranded Pakistanis departs from Djibouti

A special flight of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), carrying 176 stranded Pakistani nationals from Yemen, departed from Djibouti on Friday.

Prime minister’s advisor on civil aviation Shujaat Azeem will receive the Pakistanis who are expected to arrive at the Islamabad airport later in the day, Dawn online reported.

The foreign office on Thursday confirmed the departure of the Pakistani nationals from Yemen’s port of Aden on board a Chinese Navy ship for Djibouti.

The PIA flight left for Djibouti late on Thursday to bring the stranded nationals back to their country.

Chandralekha Mukherjee takes over as new DRM of Waltair

Chandralekha Mukherjee, an Indian Railway Traffic Service 1986 batch officer, took over as the new Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Waltair division, East Coast Railway.

The outgoing DRM Anil Kumar has been transferred as Chief Safety Officer, South East Central Railway, Bilaspur.

Mukherjee, who assumed the charge of the office yesterday, has served in the Railways for last 26 years and held various positions in the Zonal railways, Railway Board and also has a successful stint with Ministry of Defense.

McConaughey to receive USD 135K for University speech

The University of Houston is paying Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey USD 135,000 to deliver the commencement speech in May.

It was also revealed that school bosses agreed to cover MCConaughey’s travel expenses and hand over a 15 per cent commission fee to Celebrity Talent International agency executives for setting up the deal, reported the Washington Post.

The 45-year-old actor will be donating the money to his Just Keep Living Foundation, which implements after-school fitness and wellness programs in inner city high schools.

Online marketplace Flipkart on Thursday announced a slew of appointments to its senior leadership team.

The firm appointed Hari Vasudev as Senior Vice President (Engineering, IT & Analytics) for Supply Chain vertical.

Vasudev will spearhead the charter to build innovative supply chain products and services enabled by technology, focusing on key areas such as robotics, mobile, IOT and data sciences, the firm said in a statement.

St. Stephen’s College Principal Valson Thampu, facing flak from the alumni for “curbing” freedom of speech by suspending a student-run e-zine weekly, has defended the move saying it is in accordance with the institution’s discipline norms.

In an open letter titled, “St.Stephen’s and freedom of thought-what I wish I did not have to write,” Thampu has said, “I feel greatly embarrassed not so much by the attack mounted on me as by the awkwardness of some of the alumni cutting such a sorry figure, intellectually, in public.”

Jammu-Srinagar NH shut, passengers stranded

The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for traffic for the third day today due to fresh landslides triggered by heavy rains, leaving over 500 Kashmir-bound passengers stranded.

Authorities have not allowed any fresh movement of traffic from Jammu to Srinagar or from the other side as a precautionary measure in view of the bad weather conditions.

Fresh landslides have occurred at three to four places on the highway, police said.

Tata Steel’s Canadian JV acquires Howse iron ore deposit

Tata Steel on Thursday said its joint venture Tata Steel Minerals Canada has acquired the remaining 49 percent stake in the Howse iron ore deposit in Canada for close to Rs 25 crore.

Tata Steel Minerals Canada Limited (TSMC), through its subsidiary Howse Minerals Limited today acquired the remaining 49 percent stake in the Howse iron ore deposit, the company said in a filing to the London Stock Exchange today.

Howse Minerals Ltd holds 51 percent stake in the Howse deposit hand bought the remaining stake for 5 million Canadian Dollar, the firm said.

Three workers were reported missing today, a day after an explosion and fire on a Mexican oil platform that killed four people, as authorities opened an investigation into the cause.

State-run firm Pemex said one of its employees and two contractors from the Cotemar company were not accounted for following the blaze on an oil processing rig on the Gulf of Mexico.

ONGC plans to invest Rs 40,000 cr in KG oil, gas finds

State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) will invest about Rs 40,000 crore in bringing to production oil and gas discoveries in its Krishna Godavari basin block KG-D5, Chairman Dinesh K Sarraf said on Thursday .

ONGC is using cluster approach to bring oil and gas finds in the block KG-DWN-98/2 or KG-D5, which sits next to Reliance Industries’ Bay of Bengal block KG-D6, to production by 2018-19.

“We plan to submit a field development plan (FDP) for the discoveries by the second quarter. Total investment in eastern offshore will be over Rs 40,000 crore,” he told PTI here.

Two Indian-origin entrepreneurs have been charged by a top US regulator with insider trading in connection with the 2013 proposed acquisition of American company Cooper Tire and Rubber by India’s Apollo Tyres.

Amit Kanodia of Massachusetts, a 47-year-old entrepreneur and private equity investor, and Iftikar Ahmed, of Connecticut, a general partner at a venture capital firm have been charged with fraud by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in a complaint filed in US district court in Connecticut.

Majority of women drug users introduced to opium by husbands

A majority of women drug-users in Arunachal Pradesh were introduced to opium after marriage, by their husbands, a new study has revealed.

The study – “Women Who Use Drugs in Northeast India” – noted, “A household survey in the state found that 2.1 per cent of females were opium users” and that “a majority of them were introduced to opium by their husbands after marriage”.

Among 100 persons, who were surveyed, 6.4 per cent had taken drugs at least once (just ahead of Tripura’s 1.1 per cent), the study found.

Nissan India sales decline 32.91% in March

Japanese car maker Nissan on Thursday reported 32.91 per cent decline in its India sales at 4,717 units in March.

It had sold 7,031 units in the year-ago period, Nissan Motor India said in a statement.

Nissan sells various models in the country, including hatchback Micra, sedan Sunny and premium SUV Terrano.

However, for the entire 2014-15 fiscal ended March 31, Nissan reported 24.21 per cent jump in sales at 47,474 units as against 38,220 units in FY 2013-14.

Mom of kids found in freezer arraigned on murder charges

A mother charged in the slayings of two of her children whose bodies were found in the deep freezer at their Detroit home will undergo psychiatric exams, a judge said at a probable cause hearing today.

Mitchelle Blair, 35, was also arraigned on two counts each of felony murder, premeditated murder and torture.

Court officers conducting a March 24 eviction at Blair’s eastside apartment discovered the frozen corpses of 13-year-old Stoni Ann Blair and 9-year-old Stephen Gage Berry beneath plastic in the freezer.

Two held for raping minor girl in Thane

Two persons have been arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl in Dombivali area here, police said today.

The accused, who were identified only by first names, Ajmad (20) and Furshid (22), were arrested from Dombivali in Kalyan division last night for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl, Manpada police station sub-inspector Nilesh Patil said.

He said the duo, who worked at a construction site near the victim’s house, on Wednesday night waylaid the girl when she had ventured out of home to answer nature’s call and raped her in a secluded place, taking turns.
