46 Indian nationals reach Chennai from Yemen

A group of 46 persons, including seven women and two children belonging to Tamil Nadu, reached here today in two private flights after they were evacuated from strife-torn Yemen, airport sources said.

The group members, most of them belonging to Madurai and Ramanathapuram districts, were part of the 334 people who landed in Mumbai in two Indian Air Force planes last night after their evacuation.

Tamil Nadu Government officials were at the airport to welcome them.

The state government had arranged for their travel to their respective destinations, the sources said.

Top mountaineer Mastan Babu, who went missing on Mar 24, found dead

Malli Mastan Babu, one of India’s top mountaineers, who went missing after he went on a climb up the high mountains between Argentina and Chile, has been found dead, according to Times Now.

An announcement on Facebook page ‘Rescue Malli Mastan Babu’ created by his friends and well wishers read “Mountains retained its favourite child.. R.I.P Malli Mastan Babu.”

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday said helicopter teams from Argentina and Chile have been deployed in search for ace Indian mountaineer Malli Mastan Babu on both sides of the mountain range where he went missing.

Last Board of Directors meeting in MFC of United Andhra

Minority Finance Corporation of United Andhra Pradesh will hold Board of Directors meeting on April 6 which is likely to be the last meeting of the board. The process of division of Minority Finance between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh is complete however respecting the court order it has been decided to hold the meeting on April 6. Officials are busy preparing agenda of the meeting and it is said that no important policy matter will be included in the agenda. However approval of some common activities will be sought.

Dogs maul patient in Gandhi hospital

A man came to a hospital in Hyderabad for treatment of injuries sustained in a road accident but even as he was recovering, two dogs attacked and severely wounded him on Friday.

The incident occurred in Gandhi Hospital, one of the biggest government-run hospitals here.

Highlighting the state of affairs in government-run healthcare facilities, stray dogs attacked a patient in the hospital premises, causing him serious injuries.

The man, identified as Gopi, was injured in a road accident. Unable to walk, he was waiting under a shed near an emergency ward.

Tiger Woods to play Masters

Former world number one Tiger Woods said that he will play the Masters next week, a media report said on Saturday

“I’m playing the Masters,” Woods, on Friday, said in a statement posted on his website, Xinhua reported.

“It’s obviously very important to me, and I want to be there. I’ve worked a lot on my game, and I’m looking forward to competing. I’m excited to get to Augusta, and I appreciate everyone’s support.”

Woods, who has dropped out of top 100, has not been in a tournament since pulling out of Torrey Pines on February 5 with back pain.

Telangana: Policeman killed in gunfight

Two gangsters and a police constable were killed in a gunfight in Telangana’s Nalgonda district on Saturday, police said.

Two police officers were also injured in the gun battle which occurred near Janakipur village in Mothkur mandal of Nalgonda district, about 175 km from here.

The gangsters, suspected to be from north India, had escaped after gunning down two policemen and injured two others at Suraypet in the same district in the early hours of Thursday.

Job opportunities to grow fastest in India: CFO survey

Job opportunities in India are expected to grow at the fastest pace globally as 78 per cent of finance leaders believe that growth in existing businesses will add to the creation of jobs, says a survey.

According to the survey by American Express, carried out in partnership with CFO Research, across the globe employment prospects appear the brightest in India as 78 per cent of respondents predict greater rise in employment.

In the US, 61 per cent of respondents said they believe so and for China the figure stood at 50 per cent.

Minor blast at Belur

Tension prevailed at the Belur Ramrkishnan Mission at Belurmat following a minor bomb explosion of a crude bomb in the evening late today.

The police said station fire fight sources got into work after the explosion but there was no casaulty.
Investigation suggested it was a minor cracker blast but further investigation is on, police said.

664 Indians return from strife-torn Yemen

Over 660 Indian nationals evacuated from Yemen arrived home by two IAF planes and a special Air India flight tonight, taking the total number of evacuees who have been safely brought back from the strife-torn country to 1022.

While two Indian Air Force planes carrying 334 people landed in Mumbai past 11 PM, a special Air India flight with 330 Indians reached Kochi airport post midnight.

They were part of evacuees who were brought to Djibouti from Sanaa earlier in the day today.

Vaccine boosts immune response in cancer patients

A new vaccine improves the immune system’s response to cancer by using altered forms of proteins from the patient, according to a study published by the journal Science.

“Vaccines against cancer tend to be generalised,” said the study’s lead author, Beatriz Carreño.

“This is one of the first personalised vaccines,” the Venezuelan researcher said. “General vaccines employ normal, non-altered proteins and for that reason the immune response is not very strong.”

Obama condemns brutal terror attack in Kenya

US President Barack Obama telephoned Kenya’s Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday to express condolences for the 147 lives lost in an attack on a Kenyan university by the Somali terrorist group Al Shabab, the White House said.

“The president emphasised his support for the government and people of Kenya as they stand united in the face of these despicable acts,” according to the White House.

Obama expanded on those sentiments in a subsequent public statement.

Chancellor of Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Mr. Zafar Sareshwala clarified that he would concentrate on reviewing the irregularities committed by Urdu University and also for the improvement of quality education. APSRTC employees threaten strike over pay hike, bifurcation

The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) Employees Union have threatened to go on a strike demanding pay revision and bifurcation.

The union’s Vijayawada regional secretary K Prasad told reporters that the strike notice was issued yesterday.

Though the pay revsion had to be implemented from April 1, 2013, the management had yet to call the unions for discussion, he said.

Prasad further said that since the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, the trade unions have been demanding bifurcation of APSRTC into Andhra Pradesh and Telangana units.

Would continue to fight against land bill: Jairam Ramesh

Alleging that the NDA government is anti-farmer, Congress leader and former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh today said his party would fight against the proposed land bill both within and outside the Parliament.

“The reason why these amendments (to land acquisition act) are being pushed is because, the (Narendra) Modi government is basically anti-agriculture, anti-farmer. Our fight will be in Parliament and outside Parliament,” he told reporters here.

Congress is opposed to the land bill primarily on five counts, he said.

Following lunar eclipse on April 4, the doors of Tirumala Temple will be closed for almost 11 hours on Saturday, according to a press release by TTD Devasthanam authorities.

As the Chandra Grahanam (Lunar Eclipse) is supposed to take place between 3.45pm to 7.15pm, the temple doors will be closed almost six hours prior to the Garahanam which is a traditional practice.

Re-conversion an ongoing process, will continue: BJP MP Yogi Adityanath

Notwithstanding controversy over the conversion issue, BJP MP Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday justified such programmes saying it is an ongoing process and will continue to happen.

The Gorakhpur MP also batted for a strong anti-conversion law in Uttar Pradesh on the lines of legislation adopted by several states.

“This (‘ghar-wapsi’ programme) has been happening for ages. It is an on-going process and it will continue to happen,” Adityanath told reporters outside Parliament.

Bhushan writes open letter to Kejriwal

Days after he and Yogendra Yadav were expelled from the party’s top decision-making fora, rebel AAP leader Prashant Bhushan today fired a fresh salvo at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal accusing him of turning AAP a “high command-oriented” party and betraying trust of lakhs of supporters.

In an open letter to Kejriwal, Bhushan said “God and history will not forgive what you are doing to the party,”

Bhushan and Yadav were expelled from AAP’s National Executive on March 28 for “anti-party activities”.
