Ingredients

3 cups curd

3 Tbsp gram flour

A pinch of asafoetida

A pinch of jaggery

1 tsp salt

3 cups water

1 Tbsp clarified butter

1/4 cumin seeds

1/2 tsp mustard seeds

3 cloves

1/2 tsp chopped ginger

Curry leaves

1 whole red chilly

3 green chillies chopped

Method

Take a bowl and mix the curd, gram four, asafoetida, jaggery, salt and water. Mix it well using a whisk.

Heat a pan and pour in the mixture. Keep stirring till the curry thins out.

India, Afghanistan can build future on past ties: Ghani

Afghanistan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, now on an official visit here, said on Tuesday that India and Afghanistan share strong, old ties and these can be “guide” to their future relations.

Addressing a joint press conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi here, Ghani said: “India and Afghanistan are bound by a million ties through millennium. Our ambassador was telling me that there are an estimated 13 million people in India who claim decent from Afghanistan and various parts.”

Facebook Messenger launches free VOIP video calls

Facebook Messenger has launched free VOIP video calling over cellular and wi-fi connections on iOS and Android platforms.

The services will be available in the US, Canada, England and 15 other countries, TechCrunch reported. With 600 million Messenger users and 1.44 billion on Facebook, the new VOIP video feature has a massive built-in audience.

Messenger already accounts for 10 percent of global mobile VOIP calls, according to Mark Zuckerberg, one of five co-founders of the social networking website Facebook.

Quake: Part of India slid about 1 foot to 10 feet northwards

A part of India slid about one foot to 10 feet northwards and underneath Nepal in a matter of seconds during the devastating 7.9-magnitude earthquake that hit the neighbouring country on Saturday, a US scientist has said.

“Saturday’s slip took place over an area about 1,000 to 2,000 square miles over a zone spanning the cities of Kathmandu and Pokhara in one direction, and almost the entire Himalaya mountain width in the other,” said Colin Stark, Lamont Associate Research Professor at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, Columbia University.

Sensex, Nifty end in green

A benchmark index for Indian equities, the sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange, closed 219.39 points, or 0.81 percent, up on Tuesday.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also closed in the green — up 71.80 points or 0.87 percent — at 8,285.60 points.

The 30-scrip Sensex, which opened at 27,215.61 points, closed at 27,396.38 points provisionally (at 3.54 p.m.) — up 219.39 points, or 0.81 percent, over the previous day’s close at 27,176.99 points.

Gold surges Rs 305, silver zooms Rs 1,000/kg on global cues

Gold regained sheen with its price surging by Rs 305 to over 7-week high of Rs 27,355 per 10 grams at the bullion market here today, tracking a firm global trend along with brisk buying by jewellers to meet wedding demand.

Silver also spurted by Rs 1,000 to Rs 37,500 per kg on increased offtake by industrial units and coin makers.

Bullion traders attributed the sharp rise in gold prices to firm global cues where it rebounded from five-week low.

Speculation that the US Federal Bank may wait longer before raising rates weakened the dollar to a seven-week low, boosting demand for gold.

Court Allows Mumbai Police to Arrest Jailed Drug Peddler in Baby Patankar Case

A special NDPS court today allowed Mumbai police to arrest a drug peddler, who is now lodged in a Mumbai jail, in connection with recovery of 12 kilograms of mephedrone drug from a police constable’s cupboard at a city police station last month.

“We have got a transfer warrant of drug dealer G Samuels. We will arrest him tomorrow and produce him in the court,” DCP and Mumbai police spokesperson Dhananjay Kulkarni said.

So far, Mumbai police have arrested the accused police constable Dharmaraj Kalokhe, woman drug peddler Shashikala Patankar, alias Baby, and her son Satish in this case.

Conduct Hyderabad Civic Polls by December 15: High Court Tells Government

The Hyderabad High Court, today, directed Telangana Government to conduct elections to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) by December 15.

The bench of Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and Justice PV Sanjay Kumar refused to consider the state government’s argument for delaying the elections.

At one point, the Chief Justice questioned the government’s desire to hold the polls at the earliest.

“If you have the will to usher in a democratic set-up in the Corporation, you can do it,” he said in response to repeated requests by the Advocate General for more time.

Nine killed as strong winds, heavy rain lash Uttar Pradesh

At least nine people were killed and many injured when gusty winds and heavy rain lashed parts of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday morning, officials said.

The inclement weather was witnessed in Agra, Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Bahraich, Jhansi and many other parts of the state.

Two people were killed in Natwakhera village in the the state capital when lightning struck them. An aged person died in Hapur when he was thrown off the roof by gusty winds.

Two people were also killed in Etah when a wall of a house caved in and they were buried under the debris.

Andhra Pradesh Considering Special Police Force for Security of Tourists

Andhra Pradesh is considering to form a special police force for the safety and security of tourists in the state.

“The force would have special police stations for tourists, apart from a round-the-clock call centre and a guidance centre,” Secretary (Tourism and Culture) Neerabh Kumar Prasad informed Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu during a meeting to finalise the state’s tourism policy.

Mr Naidu asked the department to explore whether one ticket for multi-modal transportation for a tourist could be feasible in the state, according to an official release.

After years of discord with Colombo due to its poor human rights record, Kerry will travel to the Indian Ocean island on May 2 to meet new leaders elected early this year.

He will be the first secretary of state to visit since Colin Powell in 2004, acting State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf said yesterday.

Avid woman mountaineer Renu Fotedar dies in Nepal avalanche

Her passion for mountaineering knew no bounds but it ended in a tragedy when she perished in the avalanche triggered by the earthquake in Nepal during her maiden attempt to scale Mount Everest. 49-year-old Renu Fotedar, who hailed from Srinagar and is now settled in Australia, was among several mountaineers consumed by the killer avalanche.

Like many Kashmiri pandit migrants, Renu’s journey from the Valley took here to Delhi before she migrated to Australia after her marriage.
