Certificates 100 per cent genuine, BJP maligning AAP: Tomar

Delhi Law minister Jitender Singh Tomar, who is in the midst of a raging row over genuineness of his law degree, today rejected all the charges and alleged that it was a political ploy by the BJP to malign the image of Aam Aadmi Party.

India today enlarged its relief and rescue operations in quake-hit Nepal beyond Kathmandu to the worst-affected epicentre areas and rushed Gorkha soldiers to remote places to assess the kind of assistance required.

The death toll in India following Saturday’s powerful earthquake in Nepal, meanwhile, rose to 75 with Bihar accounting for maximum number of 58 casualties.

A “big” evacuation effort through the road route was also underway with another 4,000 people headed to India.

SC puts on hold privilege notice to Shobhaa De

The Supreme Court on Tuesday put on hold the privilege notice issued by the Maharashtra assembly to author Shobhaa De for criticising the state government’s decision to screen Marathi films at multiplexes during prime time.

Saudi Arabia arrests 93 suspected IS members

Saudi Arabia has arrested 93 suspects including 65 Saudi nationals, most of them linked to the Islamic State (IS) terrorist organisation, and has foiled several plots to carry out attacks across the country, authorities said on Tuesday.

State-run Saudi Press Agency said that it foiled several plots across the country, including a planned attack on the US embassy in capital Riyadh.

Security services had proof that led to the “early uncovering of terrorist activities in several parts of the kingdom by members of the group”, the report said.

Afghan President Ghani meets Vice President Ansari

Afghanistan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Tuesday met Vice President Hamid Ansari in the national capital.

The two leaders greeted each other warmly before discussing matters of mutual interest.

Earlier in the day, President Ghani met his Indian counterpart Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where he was accorded a ceremonial reception.

100th death row convict hanged in Pakistan

Pakistan hanged another death row convict on Tuesday taking to 100 the number of convicts hanged since a moratorium on capital punishment was lifted in December last year.

Amnesty International denounced the execution as a “shameful milestone”.

Munir Hussain, who was sentenced to death in a double-murder case became the 100th person to be executed. The sentence was carried out in the eastern province of Punjab.

Degree row: Oppn demands AAP minister’s ouster

Re-polling in four booths if EVM data not retrieved: SEC

State Election Commissioner S R Upadhyay today said re-polling will be ordered in four booths if data from EVMs are not retrieved.

In four booths under Raghunathpur, Murshidabad and Madhyamgram municipalities where results were announced today, problems have been reported with EVMs.

“If the EVMs are not retrieved, there will be re-polling. Engineers from Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) have gone and if they are not able to retrieve the data, then re-poll will be ordered,” Upadhyay told reporters here.
