Chittoor firing: HC asks SIT to finish probe in 60 days

The Hyderabad High Court today ordered the Special Investigation Team constituted to probe the killing of 20 people in police firing in Seshachalam forests of Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district, to complete its investigation in 60 days and submit a report to the court.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and Justice P V Sanjay Kumar of the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad, while passing an interim order, expressed dissatisfaction over the case diary that was produced by the investigating officer to the court.

Telangana encounter: Hyderabad HC says no to fresh autopsy of Viquar

The Hyderabad High Court today rejected the plea for the second postmortem filed by the father of a terror suspect, who was killed along with four others, in an alleged encounter in Nalgonda district of Telangana earlier this month.

Justice Vilas Afzalpurkar, who went through the counter affidavit filed by Superintendent of Police, Nalgonda, and the case record, found that there was nothing wrong in the way the first autopsy was conducted on Viquar Ahmed and that a second postmortem could not be ordered in a routine manner.

Relative held for raping minor girl in Ghaziabad

A 42-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping his niece in Lohia Nagar area here, police said today.

The incident occurred on Sunday night when two minor girls aged 8 and 11 years were lured from a wedding banquet hall by one Mahesh to a deserted house where he served both of them with sedative-laced cold drinks, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ran Vijay Singh said.

He then raped the elder of the two who was then in an unconscious state. He also attempted to rape the younger girl but was unsuccessful due to commotion outside the house, Singh said.

Candle light vigil for earthquake victims held in Kathmandu

A candle light vigil was held in Kathmandu on Tuesday for the victims of the devastating earthquake, which has claimed over 5,000 lives till now.

Hundreds of people gathered at the Kamal Pokhari area of the city to pay tributes to those who lost their lives in earthquake.

Saturday’s earthquake, which measured 7.9 on the Richter scale, resulted in the deaths of over 5,000 people and was one of the worst calamities suffered by Nepal in over 80 years.

Australia withdraws ambassador to Indonesia

Austrailan Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Foreign Minister Julie Bishop announced Wednesday morning the withdrawal of the country’s ambassador to Indonesia following the execution of two of its citizens, media reported.

Abbott announced during a press conference that Australia will withdraw its ambassador to Indonesia following the execution of Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran on Tuesday, Sydney Morning Herald reported.

“These executions are both cruel and unnecessary,” Abbott was quoted as saying.

Sri Lankan parliament approves constitutional reforms

Sri Lanka’s parliament on Tuesday passed a series of key constitutional reforms which include reducing the powers in the hands of the president.

The opposition United People’s Freedom Alliance(UPFA) voted with the government on the proposals which were finalised after two days of debate, Xinhua news agency reported.

In the 225-member parliament, 215 voted for while one voted against it, one abstained and seven parliamentarians were absent.

Going down to Chennai Super Kings in a thriller, Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday said his batsmen messed up the game by playing too many dot balls and failing to rotate the strike.

Gambhir said his opening batsman Robin Uthappa and Manish Pandey had started off well, but could not carry on.

Nigerian forces rescue about 300 women

Up to 300 women have been rescued by Nigerian security forces in restive Sambisa forest during an operation, a military spokesperson said on Tuesday.

National defence spokesperson Major Gen. Chris Olukolade said that he could not confirm the identity of the freed victims and their origins, Xinhua news agency reported.

The spokesperson added that he could not state if any of them was from Chibok until after thorough screening and proper investigations.

A case was registered against cine producer C Kalyan at Jubilee Hills Police Station here on Tuesday. According to Jubilee Hills Police Station Inspector Venkat Reddy, Kalyan was staying in an apartment located at Jubilee Hills Road No.5. Kalyan’s car parking place is in the road widening area. Kalyan asked one private doctor Kavitha, who was staying in the same apartment and having three flats in the apartment, to sell one car parking place to him.
