Sensex down 108 pts ahead of Apr derivatives expiry

The benchmark BSE Sensex fell over 108 points in early trade on Wednesday as stocks of IT, FMCG, metal, oil & gas and auto companies succumbed to profit-booking by speculators ahead of tomorrow’s monthly expiry in derivatives segment amid a weak trend at other Asian bourses.

The 30-share index declined by 108.97 points, or 0.39 per cent, to 27,287.41. The gauge had gained 219.39 points in the previous session.

In similar fashion, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty edged down by 33.40 points, or 0.40 per cent, to 8,252.20.

Salman pleads not guilty in arms case

Bollywood actor Salman Khan pleaded “not guilty” on Wednesday in an arms case in a court in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur city.

Salman was in Jodhpur to record his statements under section 313 of CrPC in the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Jodhpur in the 17-year old case.

CJM Anupama Bijlani had on April 23 asked Salman’s counsel to ensure his presence in the court on April 29.

On Wednesday, he was present in the court along with his counsel and answered the questions posed by the court.

(Siasat News): A man, who was very upset over his delayed marriage due to the financial crunch, ultimately ended his life out of frustration.

This incident occurred in Ghatkesar police limits where the deceased Trirupathi, 26, hanged himself to death yesterday. He was a labourer and has been living in Ghatkesar for quite some time.

However, he was under heavy financial crunch and this was the cause of his marriage being delayed. Police has registered a case and further investigations are underway.

Don’t blame salt alone for high BP: Study

Lack of potassium in the diet, not a little more salt than what is currently recommended, is linked to higher blood pressure (BP), new research says.

The researchers found that adolescent girls, who consumed more dietary potassium had lower BPs in later adolescence.

“In contrast, the data indicated no overall effect of sodium intake alone on BP, and, thus do not support the call for a global reduction in sodium intake among children and adolescents,” said Lynn Moore from Boston University School of Medicine.

1-day auto bandh from midnight today

As part of the 1-day bandh by All India Trade Unions against road safety bill of Central Government, auto bandh will be held from midnight of April 29. Auto Drivers Joint Action Committee leader Mohammed Amanullah Khan, B Venkatesh, M A Saleem, V Kiran and others in a statement told that 1,25,000 autos would be off the road in the twin cities. A protest rally would also be staged from Sundarya Park to Indira Park. They told that Central government in the name of road safety wanted to increase fine amount and to cancel the license hence the bandh is being organised against this.

Girls diagnosed with autism later than boys

Girls are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) later than boys because females exhibit less severe symptoms, says a study.

Females also have different symptoms than males, possibly contributing to later identification of the disease, it added.

“This suggests that girls with ASD, as well as perhaps older women with this disorder, differ from males in key symptoms and behaviours, particularly around social interactions,” said Paul Lipkin, director of the interactive autism network at Kennedy Krieger Institute in Maryland.

New vaccine can improve HIV treatment

A vaccine has been found to boost a human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected patient’s immune system and increase effectiveness of antiretroviral drugs in a phase II clinical trial, researchers have reported.

“We prove for the first time that antiretroviral therapy may be intensified by a vaccine,” said lead researcher Barbara Ensoli from the Italian National AIDS Centre at the Istituto Superiore di Sanita in Rome, Italy.

Indian equities open lower, trading flat

Indian equities opened lower and were trading in a flat trajectory in the early hours of the session on Wednesday, after a benchmark index had ended in the green the day before following a 6.5-percent loss during the preceding 10 sessions.

The sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) opened at 27395.71 points, a tad lower than the previous close at 27,396.38 points.

It soon fell further to 27,287.41 points, and was ruling at 27,409.07 points, up 12.69 points or 0.05 percent at 9.30 a.m.

India has sent army’s Gorkha soldiers to quake-hit Nepal to help in relief and rescue work, an official tweet said on Wednesday.

“India enlarges rescue operations in Nepal; sends Gorkha soldiers of Indian Army to Himalayan nation,” PIB retweeted an All India Radio tweet.

Nepal was hit by a devastating earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter Scale on April 25. The quake sent tremors across India as well.

Indian Railways has opened reservation counters at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) to provide immediate rail tickets to people evacuated to Delhi from quake-hit to help them undertake their onward journeys in a smooth manner.
