Charlie Hebdo artist not to draw Mohammad(PBUH) cartoons

A cartoonist who designed the front page of the French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, said he will no longer draw the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), media reported on Thursday.

The magazine’s office in Paris was attacked on January 7. The two Islamaist attackers — Cherif and Said Kouachi — killed at least 12 people including its chief editor.

Renald Luzier has told French magazine ‘Inrocks’ that drawing Mohammad(PBUH) “no longer interests me”.

Mother-daughter jump off moving bus to escape molestation

In a shocking incident, a 14-year-old girl died and her mother was seriously injured in Punjab after they were forced to jump out of a moving to prevent getting molested.

The incident took place yesterday night on the Moga-Bhatinda highway, near Moga city. The 35-year-old woman, wife of a marginal farmer, was travelling with her daughter and son in a AC bus operated by Orbit Bus Service – allegedly owned by the family of Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal – when some youths started to harass the girl.

The concept of marital rape cannot be applied in India where marriage is considered as a “sacrament”, government said on Wednesday, adding there is no proposal to make it a criminal offence.

“It is considered that the concept of marital rape, as understood internationally, cannot be suitably applied in the Indian context due to various factors, including level of education, illiteracy, poverty, myriad social customs and values, religious beliefs, mindset of the society to treat the marriage as a sacrament,etc,” Minister of State for Home, Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary said.

IGATE’s acquisition will make Vemuri richer by $ 19 million

IGATE’s acquisition by French rival Capgemini will make its CEO Ashok Vemuri richer by over USD 19 million (about Rs 120 crore).

Yesterday, the French IT services company had said it would buy IGATE for USD 4 billion in an all-cash deal.

Both the firms in a joint statement said Capgemini would offer USD 48 for every IGATE share as part of the merger agreement, which was 4.7 per cent more than the New Jersey-based firm’s Friday stock closing price of USD 45.85 on the Nasdaq.

Sensex down 108 pts ahead of April derivatives expiry

The benchmark BSE Sensex fell over 108 points in early trade today as stocks of IT, FMCG, metal, oil & gas and auto companies succumbed to profit-booking by speculators ahead of tomorrow’s monthly expiry in derivatives segment amid a weak trend at other Asian bourses.

The 30-share index declined by 108.97 points, or 0.39 per cent, to 27,287.41. The gauge had gained 219.39 points in the previous session.

In similar fashion, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty edged down by 33.40 points, or 0.40 per cent, to 8,252.20.

Sensex falls 170 pts ahead of derivatives expiry

The benchmark BSE Sensex today fell by 170 points to 27,225.93, bogged down by heavy selling in heavyweights HDFC and Airtel on lower-than-expected earning numbers.

Ahead of April derivatives expiry tomorrow, the index was also bugged by persistent foreign fund outflows and delay in land acquisition bill, brokers said.

Shares of Bharti Airtel suffered the most among Sensex constituents by falling 3.32 per cent after company’s March quarter net profit failed to meet market expectations.

India expected to grow 8.4 per cent in FY16

India is expected to clock a GDP growth of 8.4 per cent in the current financial year, spurred by policy reforms, fall in food inflation and lower fuel prices, says a Dun & Bradstreet report.

DU, Jamia include third gender category in student application forms

Delhi University and Jamia Millia Islamia have announced inclusion of a third gender category in all kinds of student application forms.

“It is notified for necessary compliance by all concerned that in all application forms to be submitted by students for different purposes, a third category as “others” will be added against “gender” of the students in addition to male/female,” DU Registrar said, in a communication to all department heads and college principals.

The varsity had last year announced inclusion of transgender in admission forms for post-graduate courses.

Jamia extends online submission date of admission forms up to May 4

Jamia Millia Islamia has extended till May 4 the last date for submission of online application forms for admissions, in view of the earthquake in parts of India and Nepal.

“Keeping in view the earthquake that struck the Himalayan nation and parts of India and the scale of devastation, the university administration has decided to extend the last date of submission of application forms to enable students from affected parts of Nepal and India to complete the process of submission,” Jamia spokesperson Mukesh Ranjan said.

Bengaluru CISF SI held for subjecting wife to cruelty

A Bengaluru airport CISF sub-inspector was today arrested here for allegedly subjecting his wife to cruelty, saying she was not beautiful, police said.

The accused, 32-year-old Sureshkumar hailing from Salem,was booked under IPC section 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), they said.

He got married to the woman in 2011. Some two years after his son’s birth, he was transferred to Bengaluru. He then refused to take her to Bengaluru, saying she was notbeautiful as per the complaint lodged with police.

Filthy foam from lake raises health concern

Varthur lake, considered one of the biggest water bodies in the city, has been filled with a pile of froth after recent rains mixed with untreated sewage were let out into it, raising health concerns among people living nearby.

Such was the effect of this piled up froth that it spilled over to a road adjacent to the lake, causing hindrance to traffic movement on the busy road even as an unbearable stench hung in the air.

Transport union calls for day-long nationwide strike against new bill

The national level road transport organisations have jointly called for a nation-wide day-long strike that began midnight last night in protest against the proposed new road transport bill.

The strike has been called jointly by both public and private sector workers which are affiliated to central trade unions like All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), BMS, INTUC, HMS, AICCTU, LPF and state-level outfits.

In the proposed bill, hefty fines have been proposed for minor traffic violation.

Nepal quake: No figures of missing people from Maharashtra, says Fadnavis

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said the government has successfully rescued all the people of the state from quake-hit Nepal.

“We are almost successful in rescuing the Maharashtra people from Nepal. We haven’t received any figures relating to the Maharashtra people who are missing,” Fadnavis told ANI here.

“More than 1,000 people have reached and 600 are coming by bus. Our medical teams are already working in Nepal and are conducting rescue and relief operations there with the help of Central Government,” he added.

New welfare schemes for Minorities under consideration

Mr. Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Dy. CM of Telangana State informed that Govt. of Telangana is considering new welfare schemes for Minorities so that the petty traders could be benefitted. He further said that CM has agreed to convene a high level officers’ review meeting after the party’s training camp which is being held from 1st to 4th May. CM is in favour of spending the entire budget allocated for Minorities. The officials of Minorities Welfare Department have been instructed to propose new schemes. It is propose to release loans to petty traders directly from the Government.
