Woman lodges police complaint against Delhi immigration official

A woman resident of the city on Saturday filed a complaint with Delhi police against an immigration officer who allegedly verbally sexually harassed her at Indira Gandhi International Airport in the national capital.

“I have filed a complaint with the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Indira Gandhi International Airport, situated at Mehram Nagar, New Delhi, today,” the woman told PTI here.

Hefty salary hike for Karnataka MLAs

Karnataka legislators on Monday gave themselves a hefty hike in salaries and allowances with the Chief Minister’s monthly salary set to jump from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000.

The salaries of the ministers will go up from Rs 25,000 to Rs 40,000 per month.

The sumptuary allowance has been increased to Rs three lakh per month for both Chief Ministers and the ministers.

The salary of MLAs will go up from Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 per month under the Karnataka Legislature Salaries, Pensions and Allowances (Amendment) Bill.

Massive dewatering operations launched in J-K

The Jammu and Kashmir state fire and emergency services department have launched massive dewatering operations in Srinagar to prevent flood-like situation in the state.

Earlier on Monday, the Ministry of Home Affairs is in touch with the state government and closely monitoring the situation of increasing water levels in River Jhelum at Srinagar.

No breach of embankment has been reported.

However, as a precautionary measure, to assist the state government authorities, two teams of NDRF have been deputed and another four teams kept stand-by.

16 dead in Peru bus accident: police

At least 16 people were killed today when a bus went off a mountain road in southeastern Peru, plunging 1,000 meters into a ravine, police said.

The bus belonging to the Sanchez line was on a road linking the cities of Nazca and Puquio in the region of Ayacucho when the accident occurred, highway police chief Orfiles Bravo told RPP radio.

“It apparently went off the road and has fallen some 1,000 meters (3,000 feet)” he said.

“There are 16 dead and 49 injured,” he added.

Earlier officials had given a toll of 12 dead and 20 injured.

Parshant Bhushan indicates to form new party

Ousted Aam Aadmi Party ( AAP ) leader Prashant Bhushan has indicated to form a new political party after he and Yogendra Yadav were expelled from the national executive.

According to reports, all the volunteers will meet on April 14 to take a concrete decision over the matter.

The meeting is expected to be attended by several members of the party’s national executive and national council.

Earlier on Saturday, Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav were ousted from the party’s national executive.

Guinea shuts border with Sierra Leone in effort to end Ebola

Guinea closed its border with Sierra Leone today as part of new efforts to stamp out Ebola, an official said.

The current Ebola outbreak in West Africa has killed more than 10,300 people, mostly in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Liberia currently has no Ebola patients, and Sierra Leone has seen a fairly steady decline in cases in recent weeks.

But the disease remains stubbornly entrenched in Guinea more than a year after the outbreak started and authorities are now ramping up efforts to eliminate the disease.

Death toll rises to 15 in J-K’s Budgam district

Death toll in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir reached 15, after a house collapsed due to a landslide.

As of now, fifteen bodies have been recovered. The rescue operation is on and one more person who is still trapped in the debris is feared dead.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police, Budgam, a landslide hit Hajam Mohaalla of Laden village of Charai-i-Sharief yesterday.

7 animal smugglers held in Raj; 8 cows, 35 buffaloes rescued

Seven animal smugglers were arrested and eight cows and thirty-five buffaloes were rescued from Alwar and Bharatpur areas of the state in separate incidents, police said today.

Acting on a tip-off, the police intercepted a truck at Shahjahanpur toll plaza, officer Vikas Kumar said.

However, the truck did not stop and was chased by the police team which was successful in nabbing the three accused, Kumar said.

Boko Haram failed to disrupt Nigeria elections: UN

Boko Haram was unable to disrupt elections in Nigeria but its allegiance to Islamic State shows the group has an agenda that reaches well beyond Africa’s most populous country, a UN envoy said today.

Mohammad ibn Chambas, the UN envoy for West Africa, told the Security Council that while Boko Haram fighters staged attacks on election day in Bauchi state, northeast Nigeria, “they didn’t have an impact on the voting process.”

“Boko Haram was unable to disrupt the electoral process,” he told the 15-member council.

Prosecution rests in Boston bombing trial

The prosecution rested its case today in the trial of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the ethnic Chechen facing the death penalty for his role in the Boston Marathon bombings.

Prosecutors yielded to the defense after summoning 92 witnesses to the stand over the past weeks as they built a case against the 21-year-old as an active and willing participant in the bombings that ripped through crowds gathered near the finish line of the famous race on April 15, 2013.

Federal agents stole Bitcoin in Silk Road probe: US

Two undercover federal agents in the investigation of Bitcoin market Silk Road extorted and stole hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of the virtual currency for themselves, the US said today.

The US Department of Justice said Carl Mark Force and Shaun Bridges kept a large amount of the Bitcoin from undercover transactions made as part of efforts in 2013 to find evidence against Silk Road mastermind Ross Ulbricht, or “Dread Pirate Roberts.”

Kerry says working into the night on ‘tricky’ Iran issues

US Secretary of State John Kerry today said he and his global counterparts were going to work deep into the night seeking to resolve the remaining “tricky issues” as a deadline loomed within hours.

“There still remain some difficult issues,” Kerry told a CNN reporter as he walked in his luxury lakeside hotel in the Swiss town of Lausanne.

“We are working very hard to work those through. We are working late into the night and obviously into tomorrow.”

Saudi-led forces strike Yemen rebels, blockade ports

Saudi-led naval forces imposed a blockade on Yemen’s ports as coalition airstrikes today repelled an advance on the southern port city of Aden by Shiite rebels and forces loyal to a former president.

The move to block ports appeared aimed at preventing the rebels, known as Houthis, from rearming, and comes after the coalition achieved full control of the skies and bombed a number of rebel-held airports.

The rebels are supported by Iran, but both Iran and the Houthis deny Tehran has armed them.

AAP MLA accuses a Delhi leader of organising voluteers against him

A message was today doing rounds on the social media that AAP’s Bijwasan MLA Devendra Sehrawat has accused party’s Delhi unit leader Durgesh Pathak of organising volunteers against him in his constituency, a charge refuted by the latter.

The message on social media by Sehrawat, addressed to chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, read that Pathak tried to organise a meeting of volunteers who were against him in the Bijwasan Vidhan Sabha.

Pathak, however, refuted the charges saying no such meeting had been called by him.

Wartime land mines kill 5 Iranian border guards, shepherd

Iran’s state TV says two land mines left over from the 1980s Iraq-Iran war have killed five Iranian border guards and a female shepherd near the Iraqi border.

The TV says the guards were on a regular patrol today near the Iranian border town of Qasr-e Shirin, about 540 kilometers (340 miles) west of the capital, Tehran, when one of the mines went off.

The second explosion, which killed the woman shepherd, was also in the same area today. Such explosions occasionally take place and to this day cause casualties.

Pak Govt defers execution of former MQM activist by 30 days

The Pakistan government today deferred by 30 days the execution of an ex-MQM activist convicted for target killings, amid allegations by him that the murders were carried out on party chief Altaf Hussain’s order.

Former MQM activist Saulat Mirza, who has accused the party chief Altaf Hussain of ordering him to carry out target killings in Karachi, was scheduled to be hanged on April 1 at Machh jail in Baluchistan province.

Jail superintendent Ishaq Zehri said they received an order from President Mamnoon Hussain today to delay the execution for 30 more days.

Naidu to visit China soon

Before the tour of Mr. Narendra Modi, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, CM of A.P. is likely to visit China in the month of May to persuade investors to invest money in the State.
