UPSC to conduct NDA, Naval Academy examinations on April 19

The Union Public Service Commission will be conducting the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Naval Academy (NA) examinations at different venues located in 41 centres throughout the country on April 19 this year.

The e-Admit cards for the candidates have been uploaded on the commission’s web-site http://www.upsc.gov.in , which may be downloaded.

Letters of rejection to the candidates stating reason (s) for rejection have already been sent through e-mail provided by the candidates.

PM Modi discusses safety of Yemen-baed Indian citizens with Saudi monarch

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephonic conversation with Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdul aziz Al Saud late last evening at 9.30 p.m.

According to an official release, the Prime Minister shared his deep concern about the safety and welfare of the approximately 4000 Indian citizens in Yemen. He also briefed the Saudi monarch on India’s evacuation plan and requested the latter’s support and cooperation in the evacuation of Indian citizens from Yemen.

Names of several colleges deleted from EPASS

Students and parents are facing a lot of difficulties during online submission of applications for Post Matric Scholarships. The problem is enrollment of names of educational institutions on EPASS is compulsory for scholarships. Applications of only those students are being accepted whose educational institutions are present in the list. Students of those colleges whose names are not included in the list are being rejected.

5 prisoners escape from Nagpur Central Prison Press Trust of India

Five inmates escaped from the high-security Nagpur Central Prison here in the wee hours today, police said.

According to initial reports, the jail break took place between 2 AM and 4 AM. The escapees include three MCOCA accused and a arms case convict, police said.

They were identified as Bisen Singh from Seoni (MP) besides Mohammad Saleb Salim and Satyendra Gupta, who were facing MCOCA charges.

The others were Prem Nepali from Nepal who was detained under section 425 (Arms Act) and Akash Golu (22) who was detained under section 392 (Robbery).

SC noticed Advani & co. for criminal conspiracy in Babri demolition case

The Supreme Court today sought responses from senior BJP leader L K Advani and others on a plea against dropping of criminal conspiracy charge against them in the Babri mosque demolition case.

A bench headed by Chief Justice H L Dattu issued notices to the BJP leader and the CBI on a separate plea filed by Haji Mahboob Ahmad, one of the petitioners in the Babri mosque case.

Ahmad, in his plea, has alleged that CBI may dilute its stand in the wake of the change in the government at the Centre.

Dead body found in Musi River
(Siasat News): Shahinayathgunj police has found the dead body of a man from Musi River. However, after some time, the deceased was identified as on Devdas of Indiranagar.

The 45-year-old deceased was working as a watchman. This afternoon, he reached Puranapul under the influence of alcohol. As he was over drunk, he lost his balance and fell down in Musi River that proved fatal for him.

Police has registered a case and further investigations are on.

Including peanut in a high-fat meal may protect your heart from the negative effects of such a diet, suggests a new study.

Peanuts can be substituted for high-fat, nutrient-poor foods in the diet that contain solid fats, said the study recently presented at the American Society for Nutrition’s 79th scientific sessions and annual meeting in Boston.

“Previous studies have shown that individuals who consume peanuts more than two times a week have a lower risk of coronary heart disease,” said lead researcher Xiaoran Liu, graduate student at the Pennsylvania State University, US.

Japan extends unilateral sanctions against North Korea

Japanese authorities on Tuesday approved a two year extension of its unilateral sanctions imposed against North Korea.

The decision showed that Japan sees no tangible progress in North Korea’s investigation into the abduction of Japanese nationals in the 1970s-80s, Xinhua reported, citing Japan’s Kyodo News.

The sanctions, which will expire on April 13, included a ban on entry into Japanese ports of North Korea-registered ships, except for humanitarian purposes, and on chartered flights between the two countries.

Indian equities open higher on positive global cues

Key Indian stock indices were quoting higher on Tuesday on positive cues from the global markets with stocks of companies in the oil and gas, metals and power sectors catching the investors’ fancy.

The sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) opened higher above the psychologically-important 28,000-point mark at 28,069.85 points and soon moved higher at 28,107.11 points.

Around an hour in trading, this key index was ruling at 28,041.05 points, with a gain of 65.19 points or 0.23 percent, over the previous close at 27,975.86 points, data with the exchange showed.

Difficulty in driving reflects risk of contracting Alzheimer’s

Women who find it difficult to think and move at the same time, an ability required to perform everyday tasks such as driving a car are at a higher risk of contracting Alzheimer’s disease, suggests a new study.

The researchers at York University in Canada found a link between performance in such tasks and a communication problem between different brain regions that promote simultaneous thinking and moving.

The study, focused on women, was published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Srinagar-Jammu highway partially reopens as weather improves

The strategic Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was opened for one-way traffic on Tuesday as improved weather and receding water level in major rivers lessened the danger of damage by floods in the state.

“Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been opened for one-way traffic today,” a senior police officer told IANS in Jammu on Tuesday.

“However, only light vehicles will be allowed to move on the highway from Jammu to Srinagar.”

More than 2,000 valley bound passengers have been stranded in Jammu city for the last three days because of the highway closure.

GCX’s CEO gets charge of RCOM’s Enterprise

Telecom operator Reliance Communications on Monday said Chairman and CEO of subsidiary GCX Bill Barney has been given the additional charge of its domestic enterprise business.

“The Company has expanded the role of Bill Barney, currently CEO of GCX, to also oversee RCOM’s Enterprise, IDC and national long distance operations in India, while continuing as Chairman and CEO of GCX,” RCom said in a regulatory filing.

He has taken over role from RCom President Punit Garg who is handling company’s corporate strategy and regulatory affairs.

Dy CM, Home Minister trapped in lift

PM Modi seeks Saudi help to rescue Indians from Yemen

Narendra Modi on Monday asked Saudi Arabia`s new king for his support in efforts to evacuate some 4,000 stranded Indians from war-torn Yemen.

Modi expressed his “deep concern about the safety and welfare of the approximately 4,000 Indian citizens in Yemen” when Saudi King Salman telephoned him late evening, the Indian foreign ministry said.

“Prime minister briefed his majesty King Salman on India`s evacuation plan and requested his majesty`s support and cooperation,” a ministry statement said, adding that the king assured Modi of “all possible assistance”.

Two children killed in wall collapse in Hyderabad

Two children were killed and their parents injured in a wall collapse here early Tuesday, police said.

The incident took place in a colony meant for the weaker section in the Borabanda area. The family was asleep when the wall, weakened due to unseasonal rains that lashed the city on Monday, collapsed.

A three-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy were killed, while their parents were injured and have been admitted to a hospital.

The father, Raju, was employed as a contract worker in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, had reportedly taken a small house on rent only on Monday.
