The Narendra Modi government might witness expansion of the Cabinet and soon will see new faces before the start of second half of the Budget Session scheduled on April 20. Sources claimed that a few non-performing ministers may be kicked off the cabinet.

The expansion and reshuffle exercise of the Cabinet will take place after the two day national executive meeting of the BJP, starting on April 3 in Bengaluru.

Hyderabad woman dies after being assaulted by neighbours; two injured

A 55-year-old woman died, while her husband and son were injured after their neighbours allegedly beat them up with iron rods and sticks in Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district, police said on Tuesday.

K Ashayya and K Laxmaiah have been apprehended for allegedly beating their neighbour T Mogalamma, her husband T Bithcaiah and son T Narahari with iron rods and sticks last night at Mominpet area in the district, over a minor dispute, police said.

Iran rejects claims of arms flow to Yemen

Iran has categorically dismissed as “sheer lies” allegations of weapons and ammunition delivery to Yemen.

“Claims about the dispatch of weapons from the Iran to Yemen are completely fabricated and sheer lies,” Press TV quoted Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Marzieh Afkham as saying on Tuesday.
“Such claims can never justify the military attack on Yemen,” she added.

The official said that Iran has so far dispatched consignments of medical aid and health products to the Arab country.

Andhra signs MoU with Singapore varsity

The government of Andhra Pradesh, the National University of Singapore and the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) signed an MoU on Tuesday to work on the ‘ease of doing business in Andhra Pradesh’.

The MoU was signed on the second and last day of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s visit to Singapore.

The agreement is for cooperation in relation to preparing a Masterplan on the ease of doing business in Andhra Pradesh and related activities.

The duration of the MoU is from April 1, 2015 to March 3, 2018, according to a statement from the chief minister’s office here.

The study, led by researchers at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) and Columbia University Medical Centre (CUMC), was published online in the journal Nature Neuroscience.

“While in no way implying that a child’s socio-economic circumstances lead to immutable changes in brain development or cognition, our data suggest that wider access to resources likely afforded by the more affluent may lead to differences in a child’s brain structure,” said Elizabeth Sowell from CHLA.

Female foeticide: Indian American woman jailed for 20 years

An Indian American woman has been sentenced to 20 years in prison following her conviction last month for of female foeticide.

A judge in South Bend, Indiana, announced the sentence on Monday, Public Radio International (PRI) online reported.

Purvi Patel, 33, comes from a family of Indian immigrants who settled in Granger, Indiana, a suburb of South Bend.

Entry tickets to museums, zoo and tiger reserves would become cheaper, while business class air travel, investment in MFs and chit funds would become expensive with some of the service tax proposals announced in the Budget coming into effect from Wednesday.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had came out with a host of proposals last month to rationalise service tax, which is levied at an effective rate of 12.36 percent.

Bank officer held for accepting bribe

A bank officer was arrested by an anti-corruption team for allegedly accepting bribe from a farmer to increase the credit limit of his Kisan credit card in Gandwar area here, police said on Tuesday.

Pankaj Srivastava, an officer of Poorvanchal Bank, was arrested yesterday while taking a bribe of Rs 4,000 from Mukesh, a farmer, to extend the credit limit of his Kisan credit card from Rs 60,000 to Rs 80,000, they said.

A case has been registered against Srivastava, police said.

Muslim family jailed for wearing veil, growing beard

In yet another crackdown, a court in China has sentenced a Muslim couple for practicing their religious belief.

A 38-year-old Muslim man was sentenced to six years in prison for growing a beard, a practice discouraged by local authorities, whereas his wife was given a two-year sentence for wearing a veil.

The man “had started growing his beard in 2010″ whereas his wife “wore a veil hiding her face and a burqa”.

According to local officials, the Kashgar couple had “received several warnings” before being charged.

‘We have faced caste discrimination’, alleged SC, ST girls

As many as 98 pc girls from SC and ST studying in junior colleges complained that they were discriminated against and mocked at by their teachers mainly due to caste factor, in a study conducted by MV Foundation, an NGO dedicated to child rights.

“We have conducted the study at the individual and family levels, and took into consideration school experiences and infrastructural factors, said M Vikram, secretary-trustee of MV Foundation at a press conference here on Monday.
“We have mainly Focused on different obstacles faced by girls in pursuing higher education,” he said.

Godrej Properties to develop housing project at Bengaluru

Realty firm Godrej Properties today said it has entered into a new deal to develop a housing project at Bengaluru.

The proposed project will offer about 79,000 square metres (0.85 million sq ft) of saleable area.

“Godrej Properties, the real estate development arm of the Godrej Group, has entered into a new deal to develop a residential project at Whitefield in Bengaluru,” the Mumbai-based developer said in a statement.

As with most Godrej Properties’ projects, this project will be developed under a profit-sharing model.

Five prisoners escape from Nagpur Central Prison

Five inmates escaped from the high-security Nagpur Central Prison here in the wee hours Tuesday, police said.

According to initial reports, the jail break took place between 2 am and 4 am. The escapees include three MCOCA accused and an arms case convict, police said.

They were identified as Bisen Singh from Seoni (MP) besides Mohammad Saleb Salim and Satyendra Gupta, who were facing MCOCA charges.

The others were Prem Nepali from Nepal who was detained under Section 425 (Arms Act) and Akash Golu (22) who was detained under Section 392 (Robbery).

Racket busted for making fake certificate

Task Force police arrested two persons on Monday for making fake education certificates at Kanchanbagh and Santoshnagar. Police seized several fake mark sheets for various courses affiliated to Osmania University, and also fake memos for SSC and Board of Intermediate.

The accused Qutubuddin Khan and Abdul Khadeer, the owner of a photocopy centre and the other is a private tutor. Based on the information given by Khadeer, police arrested Khan from his house at Santoshnagar. They also seized a desktop, a colour printer-cum-scanner, 30 fake stamps of various universities from the culprits.
