Muslim Maternity Hospital proposed for Nizamabad

A meeting of the Muslim dignitaries was held at Anjuman-e-Islamia at Nizamabad under the chairmanship of Dr. Mohammed Sirajuddin, President of Anjuman-e-Islamia. Nizamabad is the second largest city of Telangana where there is adequate concentration of Muslim population. The Muslims of Nizamabad have been feeling the need of a Muslim Maternity Hospital in order to stop the practices of family planning by the Doctors and misbehavior of the medical staff in Govt. hospitals. The proposed hospital would provide medical facilities with Parda for Muslim women.

North Korea fires short-range missiles

North Korea fired two short-range missiles into its eastern waters Monday when South Korea and the US launched their joint annual war games, a media report said.

A defence ministry official said that North Korea fired two missiles, estimated to be Scud ballistic missiles, between 6:32 a.m. and 6:41 a.m. from Nampo areas, South Pyongan province, said a report from Yonhap News Agency, according to Xinhua.

Those missiles, launched from Nampo, North Korea’s western coast city located southwest of capital Pyongyang, flied about 490 km across its territory into eastern waters.

Pawan Kalyan meets Chandrababu Naidu

Actor and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan called on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at the latter’s residence here on Sunday.

During the meeting, which lasted for over one hour, the duo are reported to have discussed various issues including meagre allocations for Andhra Pradesh in the Union Budget and the land pooling process for the new capital.

TSPGECET-2015 entrance exams from June 4

The Osmania University will conduct the PGECET-2015 entrance examination for four days from 4th to 8th June in two sessions (10.00AM – 12.00 Noon and 2.00 PM – 4.00 PM). The test will be conducted in two Regional Centers i.e Hyderabad and Warangal.

Book raises questions about Mumtaz Mahal’s burial

Youth should respect other religions: Pejawar seer

The young generation of Hindus in the country should not indulge in activities that harm other religions but should learn to respect them, Vishwesha Tirtha Swamiji of the Pejawar Mutt said today.

Addressing the Virat Hindu Samajotsava held here as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, he said instead of pelting stones at churches and mosques the youth should respect other religions.

“We have to be peace-lovers and not problem-makers,” he said.

Newly-married couple commits suicide

A newly-married couple allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves at their house in Kushaiguda here today, police said.

M Srinivas (26), a crane operator and his wife Mounica (20), were found hanging at their residence this afternoon, they said.

According to preliminary information, Srinivas, who was an alcoholic, used to quarrel with his wife and mother after getting drunk, Kushaiguda Police Station Inspector N Venkata Ramana said.

‘Jihadi John’ kin under watch in Kuwait: reports

Kuwaiti authorities are closely monitoring several relatives of “Jihadi John” who live and work in the Gulf emirate where the Islamic State executioner was born, press reports say.

A number of relatives of Mohammed Emwazi, named as the man who has beheaded at least five Western hostages, are working in Kuwait and, like him, hold British citizenship, Al-Qabas newspaper reports.

“Security agencies have taken the necessary measures to monitor them round the clock,” the paper says, citing an “informed source.”

60 UK women may have joined IS militants: official

Sixty British women and girls, including 18 teenagers, are believed to have travelled to war-torn Syria to join Islamic State militants, the UK’s top counter-terrorism police officer said today.

Deputy assistant commissioner Helen Ball, senior national coordinator for counter-terrorism, said that about five of them are 15 – 16.

The figures came as fresh CCTV images emerged of three London schoolgirls who secretly caught a flight to Istanbul after slipping out of their homes last month.

Jalgaon incident: DCW demands swift action

Delhi Commission for Women ( DCW) chairperson Barkha Shukla Singh on Sunday strongly condemned the thrashing of a woman by a policeman in Jalgaon, demanding that swift action be taken in the incident.

The woman in question was reportedly accused of another woman’s purse, before the policeman beat her up.

Mass student poisoning reported in South Africa

Hundreds of primary school students in South Africa have been hospitalised after being poisoned, the opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) claimed on Sunday.

The DA said it has received confirmation about the hospitalisation of hundreds of learners at the Mankgane Primary School in Sekhukhune, Limpopo province late last week as a result of poisoning from their school feeding scheme.

The confirmation came from the Limpopo education department, the DA said.

Sri Lanka seeks foreign help in corruption probe

The Sri Lankan government said on Sunday that it has sought assistance from India, the US and Britain to help investigate financial fraud allegations against the former government.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera and Justice Minister Wijeydasa Rajapaksa had visited these countries to seek assistance for the probe, Xinhua reported.

“We have sought assistance from the World Bank, the US Justice Department, the major fraud investigations unit in London and the Indian central bank,” he said.

AAP’s internal Lokpal claims two camps, breakdown of trust

Amid reports of internal rumblings in AAP, the party’s internal Lokpal, Admiral L. Ramdas (retd) warned of “two camps” and “abject breakdown in trust between topmost leadership” and sought clear signals that all senior party members were united.

Iran to help facilitate Google’s services in Gulf

Iran said on Sunday that it was ready to cooperate with information technology (IT) companies like Google to facilitate their services in the country and the Persian Gulf region.

Iran’s deputy minister of telecommunications and information technology Nasrollah Jahangard said negotiations were underway with Google to establish a version of its servers in Iran, according to a media report.

“This is a normal thing in the world and it will be economical for (IT) companies to be closer to their main clients,” Jahangard told Iran’s Fars news agency.

Lebanon to shelter Assyrians fleeing IS

Lebanon said on Sunday that Assyrian Christians fleeing the Islamic State (IS) militants were welcome to take refuge in the country, considering their exceptional humanitarian case.

“After discussing the matter with Prime Minister Tammam Salam and Social Affairs Minister Rashid Derbas, I gave the order to allow the inflow of Assyrian refugees from Syria,” Lebanon’s Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouk told the al-Mustaqbal daily in an interview.

Iraq violence kills over 1,100 in February: UN

Latest figures released by the United Nations show that ongoing violence and terror activities claimed the lives of more than 1,100 people across Iraq in the month of February.

The UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) said in a statement on Sunday that 611 civilians were among the 1,103 people killed last month. The rest were members of the security forces.

UNAMI further said 2,280 people, including 1,353 civilians, were wounded across Iraq last month, adding that the capital city of Baghdad was the worst hit with 329 people dead and 875 injured.

Omar hits out at Sayeed’s comments on Hurriyat

National Conference chief Omar Abdullah Sunday hit out at Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s remarks that the separatist Hurriyat Conference and militant outfits had facilitated conducive atmosphere for assembly polls in the state.

Thousands rally in Moscow to mourn slain opposition leader

Thousands of people rallied in Moscow on Sunday to mourn the death of former Russian deputy prime minister and opposition leader Boris Nemtsov, who was gunned down last week.

The rally, which was supposed to be one to protest the Russian policy on Ukraine, and which was to be led by Nemtsov — one of the staunchest critics of President Vladimir Putin, turned out to be a rally to mourn the slain leader, CNN reported.

Protest in Kolkata over Bangladeshi-American writer’s killing

Intellectuals, activists, artists and writers staged a protest here on Sunday to denounce the killing of a Bangladeshi-American blog writer in Dhaka last week.

Organised by Bhasha O Chetona Samiti (Language Awareness Society), a city-based organisation for promotion of Bengali language and culture, the protest saw people gather at the Academy of Fine Arts to condemn blogger Avijit Roy’s killing and called for fighting against fundamentalism.

Lake Police save youth’s life

The Lake Police has saved the life of one 21-year-old youth from Parakasam who had tried to commit suicide by jumping into the Hussainsagar lake.

The youth, Thota Narayana, is a resident of Kanigiri village of Prakasam district. He came to the Upper Tank Bund and jumped into the Hussain Sagar lake to commit suicide. The Lake Police personnel also jumped into the lake and saved his life.
