Mercedes launches E-Class Cabriolet, CLS 250 CDI Coupe

German luxury carmaker Mercedes- Benz on Wednesday launched two models E-Class Cabriolet and CLS 250 CDI Coupe with diesel engine priced at Rs 78.50 lakh and Rs 76.50 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

“This is our second and third launch in this month. We are intensifying our product offensive in the Indian market by launching cars from our global portfolio which are relevant here,” Mercedes-Benz Managing Director & CEO Eberhard Kern told PTI.

The company said that it would launch 15 new models and add 15 more showrooms in 2015.

Roposo.Com raises $5 mn in funding led by Tiger Global

Fashion-focused social network, Roposo.Com on Thursday said they have raised USD 5 million funding led by technology venture investor Tiger Global.

Roposo.Com raised USD 5 million (over Rs 31 crore) series A investment led by the technology venture investor Tiger Global, the company said in a release, adding that in this round of funding previous investors, Indian Quotient and Binny Bansal (Co-founder and COO of Flipkart.Com) also participated.

Preferred Hotels eyes 50% increase in India members by 2018

US-based Preferred Hotels & Resorts, a global portfolio of independent luxury hotels, is looking at increasing the number of its member hotels in India to 45 by the end of 2018.

Introducing in India its recently announced global re- branding initiative, Preferred Hotels & Resorts said it has moved from a multi-brand portfolio to one master brand.

Sensex ends 802 points down on geo-political worries

Extending losses for third straight week, the benchmark BSE Sensex plunged by 802 points to end at ten-week low of 27,458.64 on across-the-board selling, prompted by geo-political worries, and expiry of derivatives contract on March 26.

The NSE Nifty also tumbled by 230 points to end the week at ten-week low of 8,341.40.

Starting the week on a sluggish note, markets remained subdued on global weakness ahead of a key meeting between heads of Greece and Germany and caution ahead of expiry of monthly derivative contracts.

Delhi launches India’s first ‘e-ration card’ facility

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday launched the country’s first “e-ration card” facility in the national capital.

He said the e-ration card will bring immense convenience to the people of Delhi as it will cut down the delays in preparation and delivery of ration cards to the beneficiaries.

“Now the beneficiaries can print the ration card as soon as it is approved by the department (of food, supplies),” Kejriwal said during the launch.

Pest control firm prints cockroach with tricolour, Ashok Chakra; summoned by court

A Delhi court on Friday summoned a pest control company Terminix for allegedly insulting the tricolour by printing a pamphlets with a image of cockroach with three colours of national flag and and national emblem Ashok Chakra.

Metropolitan Magistrate Akash Jain issued summons to Terminix and asked it to appear on June 30 while hearing a a private complaint filed by Rajiv Jolly Khosla against the firm’s proprietor.

Government considering airlifting of Indians stranded in Yemen

The central government was considering the possibility of airlifting stranded Indians including Keralites from strife-torn Yemen, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has informed Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.

Swaraj has informed the state that two ships have been sent to Yemen to rescue the Indians, including Malayalees, who have been stranded in that country.

Cops filed charge sheets against 88 traffic violators

The Hyderabad Traffio police on Friday filed charge sheets against 88 top traffic violators and produced them in courts, aAs a part of the drive from March 23 to March 27 against traffic violators.It includes those who did not pay the fine

140 drunk drivers were also awarded imprisonment for a period varying from 1 to 15 days, besides paying fine.

According to Additional CP (Traffic) Jitender “We have filed a charge sheet against 88 top traffic violators and produced them before local courts”. The courts have imposed Rs 5. 37 lakh fine on the offender, he added.

Friday prayer was offered at historical Qutub Shahi Masjid, Masjid Tayyaba located inside Qutub Shahi Tombs premises. The masjid was uninhabited for long. Archeological department had converted it into cement godown. Following the publication of report in Siasat local Muslims restored the masjid. (Siasat News): A 25-year-old girl Venkata Laxmi, resident of Rajiv Gruhakalpa building, Lalaguda in Shamshabad went missing. Her father said that her mental condition is not sound.

His father Narayana has lodged a complaint with the police. Shamshabad RGI sub-inspector Murli Kumar has registered the case and started the search for missing girl.

Hussaini Alam branch manager was beaten up by a home loan defaulter on Wednesday.

According to police Laxminarayana, Branch manager, field officer PJ Kalyana Chakravarthy along with two other officers were assaulted by A Mahesh Goud, when they went to Mahesh Goud’s house for recovery of a long pending house loan.

Mahesh Goud took a home loan in 2010 but fail to pay in paying regular instalments. In spite of repeated efforts of bank staff through meetings, phone calls and SMS alerts for the last six months, the borrower did not respond and failed to regularise account.

India ready to launch its fourth navigation satellite

An Indian rocket is readying to blast off at 5.19 p.m. on Saturday carrying the country’s fourth navigation satellite IRNSS-1D from the Sriharikota rocket port, the Indian space agency said.

The countdown is progressing smoothly with the rocket’s second stage fuelled up early Saturday morning.

The 59-and-a-half hour countdown began on March 26 at 5.49 a.m.

Around 20 minutes into the flight, the rocket – the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C27) – would eject the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS)-1D at around 506 km above the earth.

Chaos descended at the AAP’s crucial National Council meet, which may decide the fate of its two dissident leaders, as Yogendra Yadav sat on dharna outside the venue claiming that certain NC members “not being allowed” inside.

Osmania University to get 536 cr budget

The Academic Council of the Osmania University has approved Rs 6.15 crore deficit budgets for the financial year 2015-16, at a meeting held here on Friday.

While presenting the budget Prof Mohammad Akbar Ali Khan who is a Dean Faculty of Commerce said that Rs 23.68 crore and Rs 16.39 crore were allocated for construction of PG College buildings at Jogipet and Siddipet, respectively.

Khan announced a budget of Rs 536 crore for the current year. Akbar informed that the University has huge burden for generating money for paying pensions to retired teachers.

Rajya Sabha to be prorogued for re-issue of land ordinance

Ending suspense, Government today decided to prorogue the current session of Rajya Sabha so that it can re-issue the controversial land ordinance even as the Opposition mounted a fresh attack on the measure.

The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh met here today and decided to recommend prorogation of the Upper House with immediate effect.

Under the Constitution at least one of the Houses has to be prorogued for Government to issue an ordinance. Parliament is currently on a month-long recess after the Budget session started on February 23.

Congress demands CBI probe against Tripura CM Manik Sarkar

The Tripura Pradesh Congress has demanded a CBI probe into Chief Minister Manik Sarkar’s alleged proximity with various chit fund companies such as Saradha and Rose Valley.

Congress MLA and opposition leader in the Tripura Assembly, Sudip Roy Barman, said if the CBI can interrogate West Bengal Transport minister Madan Mitra in the Saradha chit fund scam, Sarkar must also be questioned in a similar manner.

Vine now allows for high quality videos on iOS operating system

Short-video sharing app Vine has rolled out support for high-definition videos on iOS operating system and will soon be available on Android as well.

According to the Verge, Vine’s blog post said that it is bumping the resolution of each video up from 480p to 720p.

However, the videos will appear somewhat compressed so they can be quickly loaded to mobiles.

On iOS operating system, the new Vines will immediately start uploading in high definition while on Android , the feature will be available “soon”. (ANI)
