Yamuna restoration: NGT warns authorities of coercive steps

The National Green Tribunal has warned authorities in Delhi of “coercive steps” including attachment of accounts and imprisonment for not implementing its orders on keeping Yamuna clean.

A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swantanter Kumar took strong exception to the failure of the authorities to act with “requisite seriousness and effectiveness” on its directions on “Maili se Nirmal Yamuna Revitalisation Project 2017”.

Student beaten for ‘not paying fees’

A 7-year-old girl student of a private school was allegedly beaten by a her teacher for not paying the school fees, promoting parents to approach NHRC.

The incident happened on March 24 in Nand Gram colony under Sihani Gate police station in the district.

The student’s father Khalid complained the matter to District Magistrate on the same day.

Relatives of man killed by DTC bus get around Rs 18 lakh

Family members of a 45-year-old man, who died in a road accident after being hit by a rashly driven DTC bus, have been awarded a compensation of around Rs 18 lakh by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) here.

MACT Presiding Officer Manish Gupta asked United India Insurance Company Ltd, insurer of the offending bus, to pay Rs 17,70,056 to the family of Ghaziabad resident Prem Kumar Sharma, who died in the accident in January 2012.

MLAs’ convoy attacked in Mizoram, three policemen dead

Three policemen were killed and several others were injured when militants attacked a convoy accompanying a group of three MLAs at Zokhawthiang in Aizawl district of Mizoram.

According to reports, the incident took place yesterday when the militants belonging to Hmar People’s Convention – Democratic (HPC-D) opened fire at the convoy of MLAs R L Pianmawia, Lalawmpuii Chawngthu and Lalthanliana.

PM Modi to attend Lee Kuan Yew’s funeral today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the funeral of Singapore’s founding father Lee Kuan Yew on Sunday.

The government had earlier decided to observe National Mourning on March 29 as a mark of respect to Yew, who was also the first prime minister of Singapore.

The national flag will be flown at half-mast throughout the country and there will be no official entertainment today.

Yew, who transformed the tiny island outpost into one of the wealthiest and least corrupt countries in Asia, died on March 24. He was 91 years old. (ANI)

Boko Haram kills 39, legislator, disrupting Nigeria election

Witnesses and officials say Boko Haram extremists killed 39 people, including a legislator, in northeastern Nigeria, disrupting the country’s presidential election.

All the attacks took place in the northeast where the military Friday announced it had cleared the Islamic extremists from all major centers.

Residents of the town of Miringa say Boko Haram militants torched people’s homes early yesterday and then shot them as they tried to escape.Twenty-five reportedly died.

Demand to exempt Urdu medium teachers’ posts from roaster

Minorities Rights Protection Committee of Medak District convened a meeting at Islamic Center, Sangareddy under the chairmanship of its president, Mr. Mohammed Khaja Moinuddin. A resolution was taken to demand the government to include “Khan” and “Syed” also in the 12% reservation. A demand was made to exempt Urdu medium teachers from the roaster system and also to make immediate appointments of the candidates passed through DSC in 2008 and 2012. Urdu medium schools should be excluded from rationalization.

Baby girl born with ‘trunk’ labelled as ‘Ganesha’ in Aligarh

A baby girl born with a ‘trunk’ has become the center of attraction in a village in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, as people are flocking to see her believing that she is an incarnation of Lord Ganesha.
Born on Thursday, the child has a protuberance between her two eyes which people believe resembles the trunk of Lord Ganesha.

The people from far places have swarmed the modest house of a family of labourers to get a glimpse of the ‘divine’ baby.

The baby’s aunt, Rajani, said the people were not even shying from making offerings to the baby like they would in front of an idol.

Warplanes raid Yemen as airstrike enters fourth day

Warplanes of Saudi-led Arab coalition forces raided Yemen’s capital of Sanaa, as the airstrikes against the Shiite Houthi group enters the fourth day.

Warplanes on Saturday hit the camps of reserve forces loyal to former President Ali Abdullash Saleh in southern Sanaa and the air defense base in the Red Sea city of al-Hodayda, Xinhua reported.

There is no immediate report on casualties.

World powers have to show flexibility in n-deal: Iran

Iran has exhibited the necessary flexibility during the course of nuclear negotiations, calling on the P5+1 group of world powers to take the turn and the final steps, said Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

“We have come close to sensitive days. Iran has shown the crucial flexibility during the talks, and now it is the opposite side’s turn to take the final steps,” Rouhani told German Chancellor Angela Merkel during a telephone conversation on Saturday, Press TV reported.

Sharif assures support to Saudi king over strikes in Yemen

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has told Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz that he will soon send a high-level delegation to Riyadh to discuss cooperation for the Saudi-led strikes on Yemen, a top diplomat said.

Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry told a press conference late on Saturday that the delegation could depart within 24 to 48 hours, Xinhua reported.

“The prime minister told the Saudi king that the security of Saudi Arabia is very important for Pakistan and any threat to Saudi Arabia will be a matter of serious concern for us,” he said.

Maulana Kareemuddin Kamal is nominated master trainer for Haj Pilgrims of 2015

Telangana State Hajj Committee nominated Maulana Kareemuddin Kamal Saberi as the master trainer to impart training to the Hajj pilgrims of 2015 season. It may be noted that every year Hajj Committee nominates 20 field trainers and a master trainer to facilitate the Hajj Pilgrims in performing Hajj pilgrimage in Makkah. Maulana Kareemuddin hails from Nizamabad District. Professor S.A. B.Ed. course will be for two years from next year

According to a press note issued by Department of School Education, B.Ed. course will be of two years duration from the academic year 2015-16. Govt. has decided to change its syllabus also. Since the syllabus of the State Govt. from VI to X class has been changed. These changes will form part of the next B.Ed. course. In addition to routine subjects, computer education will also be included in the syllabus.

Bihar to skill up one crore youth by 2020: Nitish

The Bihar government is planning to skill up one crore youth in the state in a time span of five years to make them compete globally for industries requiring skilled workforce, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said on Saturday.

“We need to make them employable by imparting skills through various skill development initiatives,” he said at an event organised by industry chamber CII here.

Nitish Kumar said Bihar has the largest pool of youth in India aged under 25 and his government has already employed about 100,000 young men and women through employment fairs across the state.

Goa’s women taxi drivers allege harassment

Three women taxi drivers formerly employed with Goa’s first all women radio taxi service have alleged violation of labour laws by the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC), a state government-run corporation, which has outsourced taxi operations to a private firm.

The women taxi drivers have alleged that at the time of recruitment last year they were informed that they had been employed by the corporation, but once the taxi service started in October last year they realised that their employer was actually a private firm.

54 Sudan government soldiers killed in clash with rebels

Sudanese rebels has said they killed 54 government soldiers and seized a strategic town in South Kordofan region, but the Sudanese army denied the matter.

“The forces of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) /northern sector have managed to liberate Habila town, some 30 km south-east of Al-Dalanj town in South Kordofan State,” said Arno Taloudy, spokesman for the rebel fighters, in a statement on Saturday,Xinhua reported.

However, the Sudanese army denied the rebels’ claims of controlling Habaila, but admitted that there were confrontations at the town.

UN Security Council condemns hotel attack in Somalia

The UN Security Council has strongly condemned the terrorist attack on a hotel in Somali capital of Mogadishu that resulted in the heavy deaths of civilians.

In a press statement issued on Saturday here, the Council members underlined that “neither this, nor any other senseless act of terrorism in Somalia, would dent their resolve to support the peace and reconciliation process in Somalia,” Xinhua reported.

They also expressed their deep sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the people and government of Somalia.
