Cong asks AIADMK not to support Land Bill in Rajya Sabha

Rallying parties against Modi government’s Land Acquisition Bill in its present form, Congress today asked Jayalalithaa-led AIADMK to “demonstrate” its commitment to farmers by opposing the legislation in Rajya Sabha though it had backed it in Lok Sabha.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh told reporters here that the BJP’s controversial Land Acquisition Act was “dictatorial” in nature as it was brought in through an ordinance without discussion and had done away with many of the pro-farmer povisions made in a similar Act brought in by the Congress-led UPA in 2013.

Ace Indian mountaineer goes missing in South America

Ace Indian mountaineer Malli Mastan Babu, who flew down to South America to climb up mountains between Argentina and Chile, has gone missing.

Malli Mastan Babu, who hails from Andhra Pradesh, was on a solo expedition in the Andes.

His solo expedition began on March 24 and Malli was scheduled to return to the base camp at Cerro Tres Cruceson on March 25.

Unfortunately, he didn’t return to the base camp till date and all attempts of communicating with him has failed.

Woman Techie Dies in Speedboat Accident in Hussain Sagar

A 22-year old woman software employee died when the speedboat in which she was travelling rammed into another boat at the famous Hussain Sagar lake in Hyderabad tonight, police said.

The incident took place at 8 pm when Bhakta Rana, a native of Odisha, working with a software company in the city, was returning after visiting the Buddha statue located in the middle of Hussain Sagar lake, along with three others.

Their speedboat dashed into another boat, which caused severe neck injuries to her, police said.

Dubai-based business tycoon Ram Buxani and former Sheriff of Mumbai Bakul Patel were conferred with the honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters (D Litt) by a university in Mumbai.

BJP asks divided AAP to work without ‘blaming anybody’

In a tongue-in-cheek remark, the Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP) on Sunday asked the Arvind Kejriwal led-Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government to work for an entire year without blaming anybody and making any excuses.

“Perhaps they should consider for one year, without blaming anybody, without making excuses, trying to implement the promises by honestly working towards them,” said BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli .

“It is really up to them to run their party in a democratic way or autocratic way, to run their party based on some rules or throwing away the rules,” he added.

Lucknow Teen Shoots Himself after Father Bans Facebook Chat

A 14-year-old boy shot himself dead in Allahabad on Thursday after his father reprimanded him for chatting too often on social networking site Facebook, police said.

The incident took place in Parasnagar locality of Naini in Allahabad.

The boy, a student of Class 9, was using Facebook on Wednesday night on his mobile phone.

After finding his son chatting at night, his father threw away the phone.

The boy then locked himself up in his room and shot himself on Thursday morning.

When his family members broke open the door, they found the boy lying in a pool of blood.

30 Kg Plastic Can Be Found in Every Dead Cow in India, Says Union Environment Minister

At least 30 kilograms of plastic can be found from the stomach of every cow or buffalo which dies in India, Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said today, adding that a ‘plastic carry-bag free India’ campaign would be soon launched.

“The problem with India is we have laws but we don’t implement them,” he said while interacting with walkers at KBR Park here as one of them expressed concern over plastic waste. He noted that plastic bags below 40 microns are banned and rag pickers do not take them as they cannot be recycled and are ultimately strewn all over the place.

Aggressive breast cancer ‘switch’ identified

Australian researchers have identified a gene that drives an aggressive form of breast cancer, and they hope to find a way to “switch it off”.

The study’s main finding that a gene known as “inhibitor of differentiation 4” (ID4) not only “marks” but appears to control the highly aggressive form of triple negative breast cancer was published online in the journal Nature Communications.

“We found that ID4 is produced at high levels in roughly half of all triple negative breast cancers,” said project leader Alex Swarbrick from the Garvan Institute of Medical Research in Sydney.

Microsoft has announced a second round of devices that will be able to run the latest builds of Windows 10 wherein the list has expanded considerably.

According to the Verge, Microsoft opened up its Windows 10 Technical Preview to Windows Phone users last month, but only a scant few Lumia devices were supported.

Pak PM Sharif offers complete army support to Saudi Arabia

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has offered complete support of the country’s army to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the ‘Determination Storm’ operation.

According to Dawn News, Sharif assured Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in a telephone conversation about the army support and discussed the recent developments on regional and international fronts.

King Salman thanked the prime minister for his feelings and stressed on the depth of relations between the two countries, the report said.

Air Canada flight crashes on runway in Halifax, no major injuries

Air Canada flight AC624 from Toronto to Halifax crashed on runway at Halifax Stanfield International Airport in Canada on Sunday, the airline has confirmed.

Number of passenger on board is being reported as 132 and five crew members at the time of the crash and no serious injuries were reported.

According to multiple reports, the plane slammed into a power line, likely leading to the crash which led to power outage at the airport and remained off for at least an hour.

All passengers have deplaned safely and are being evacuated to the terminal.

J&K: 44 structures damaged in heavy landslides and rainfall

At least 44 structures including 18 residential houses were damaged due to landslides caused by heavy rainfall in Kashmir over the past 24 hours, police said on Sunday.

A landslide caused by the rain in Chontinar village of central Kashmir Budgam district destroyed eight residential houses and 10 cowsheds last evening.

At least 26 residential houses were partially damaged by the landslide but there were no reports of loss of life, they said.

“These women shall have the same voice as the promoter, defeating the very purpose of genuine (independent) gender diversity,” Prime Database Managing Director Pranav Haldea said.

With just two days left to meet the mandatory Sebi deadline, nearly 400 listed companies are still to appoint women directors on their boards even as the market regulator has warned of serious consequences for non-compliance.
