A national workshop for academicians and media was organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Study Centre in New Delhi on March 27 and 28.

The workshop was attended by delegates from all chapters of the study centre across India and many invitees from the media and educational institutions.

Mufti should dispel rumours of fresh floods in J-K: Omar Abdullah

National Conference leader Omar Abdullah on Sunday asked Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to reassure the people about the factual position and dismiss the rumours of fresh floods in the valley.

The former chief minister via Twitter said that the authorities should reassure the people.

“The poor residents of Srinagar must be absolutely terrified. Time for the authorities to reassure them,” he tweeted.

“From all the info I’ve been able to gather we are still a few feet below the danger mark but people are scared and rumours flying,” he added.

Tendulkar presents Player of the Match, Series awards

Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar presented the Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards at the closing ceremony of the 2015 World Cup at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) here on Sunday.

Australia defeated trans-Tasman rivals and co-hosts New Zealand by seven wickets to clinch their fifth World Cup trophy.

All-rounder James Faulkner was named the Player of the Match for his figures of 9-1-36-3. The pacer took the key wickets of Ross Taylor, Grant Elliott and Corey Anderson.

Jolie makes first post-surgery appearance

Actress Angelina Jolie made her first post-surgery appearance when she attended the Kids’ Choice Awards, where she won the award for Favourite Villain for her role in “Maleficent”.

The 39-year-old was joined by daughters Zahara, 10, and Shiloh, 8, for the big event, where she was also up for the favourite actress award. But she lost out to Emma Stone, reports people.com.

Jolie made headlines earlier this week when on Tuesday she announced that she had her ovaries and fallopian tube removed in mid-March, after her doctors told her that she was showing early signs of cancer.

AAP to set up new Lokpal, disciplinary committee

A day after it acted against dissident leaders Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav, the AAP on Sunday decided to set up a new internal Lokpal and a disciplinary committee.

The decision was taken at a meeting held at Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal’s residence.

“We have taken four decisions. A new internal Lokpal consisting of three members and a disciplinary committee will be formed,” party leader Pankaj Gupta told reporters.

Centre to raise compensation limit for crop damage: Jaitley

The Centre will work with the state governments to raise the compensation limit for farmers affected by unseasonal rains and hailstorms, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said today.
“The Prime Minister is deeply concerned about the loss to the farmers…. The government would raise the compensation limit to help the farmers whose crops have been affected by rain and hailstorm,” Jaitley said while interacting with farmers in Timeli, one of the worst affected villages, about 65 km from district headquarters.

CAG raps J&K govt for poor police infrastructure, facilities

The Comptroller and Auditor General of India in its latest report has rapped Jammu and Kashmir government for poor infrastructure and lack of basic facilities for the police force in the state.

The government auditor came hard against the state’s ‘negligence’ towards police department as it revealed that 18 police stations and 103 police posts were operating without ‘own’ buildings.

Centre releases Rs 385 Cr to AP, Rs 150 Cr to TS

The Government of India has released about Rs 385 Crore to Andhra Pradesh and Rs 150 Crore to Telangana as part of the 13th Finance Commission Recommendations.

For Andhra Pradesh, Rs 26 crore were released towards implementation of statistical system, Rs 298.8259 crore for PRI/ULB/Special Area, Rs 49.99 crore for A.C.A (for other project) and Rs 33.50 crore for State Specific New.

For Telangana, an amount of Rs 73.10 crore was released for PRI/ULB/Spl Area and Rs 76.77 crore towards grant for PRI/ULB/Spl Area, according to the Union Finance Ministry. (INN)

Filmmaker Bobby Khan, who roped in Sunny Leone for his movie ‘Ek Paheli Leela’, says many known actors refused to work in it because of the presence of the Indo-Canadian adult film star.

Khan told IANS: “Many big actors and known faces were approached for the film. They loved the script, but they refused it because Sunny belongs from the porn industry. It was very sad that many actors refused to do this film.”

India holds ‘Make in India’ fortnight in Germany

Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Germany next month, a ‘Make in India’ fortnight has been held near here which included a series of events highlighting initiatives to make India a preferred investment destination.

Sebastian Vettel holds off Hamilton by 10 seconds to clinch Malaysian GP

Four-time Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel got back to winning ways as he outclassed reigning champion Lewis Hamilton to win the Malaysian Grand Prix on Sunday.

Vettel, who moved to Ferrari this year from Red Bull as Fernando Alonso ‘s replacement, won a strategic battle as Mercedes struggled with tyres in the scorching heat. Hamilton’s teammate Nico Rosberg was third from Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen, who fought back from an early puncture.

Both the McLarens drivers, Alonso and Jenson Button, retired from the race, the BBC reported.

Yadav, Bhushan removed from disciplinary committee as they were ‘violent’: AAP

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Gopal Rai on Sunday said that Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav were removed from the party’s national disciplinary committee as they were too ‘violent’.

“We have decided to form a National Disciplinary Committee and revive the Lokpal Committee. They (Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav) were removed because they were violent,” he said.

Earlier in the day, the AAP decided to form a new Lokpal Committee and a National Disciplinary Committee to oversee the party’s affairs.

Heavily Pregnant Muslim woman attacked in France

Kedidja, 29-year-old, a heavily pregnant has been hospitalised in France after being attacked by two men on Tuesday morning. She is the nine-months-pregnant woman who is due to give birth in mid-April.

She suffered the attack only because she was wearing the hijab or Muslim headscarf.

As she dropped her two children off at school in the French city of Toulouse, one of the attackers hit her several times and threw her to the ground, according to La Depeche reports.

Capital spending in India is likely to take 12 more months to start recovering as private companies have adopted a ‘Wait-And-See’ approach, says a report by global ratings agency Standard and Poor’s.

“We expect capital spending in India will continue to fall in fiscal 2016 despite its economy being one of the few bright spots in Asia-Pacific,” it said.

According to the report, corporates in capital-intensive sectors are mostly focusing on improving profitability and lowering leverage rather than looking at new projects.
