Trevor Noah to replace Jon Stewart on ‘The Daily Show’

Newcomer Trevor Noah is reportedly being considered to replace Jon Stewart as the anchor on “The Daily Show”.

Stewart recently announced hi departure from the TV talk show after hosting it for 16 years.

Noah, who is a correspondent with “Daily Show” tops the short list to take Stewart’s position, reported Variety.

He has been a member of the Daily Show team since December 2014, when he came on as a correspondent.

Rolling Stones to announce US tour?

English rock band Rolling Stones are rumoured to be announcing a tour of North America.

The group are thought to be visiting smaller cities and towns they did not visit when they marked their 50th anniversary with a trip to the US in 2012 or on the 50 and Counting tour in 2013, reported the Rolling Stones magazine.

The announcement is due to be made on March 31.

Cities including Nashville, Indianapolis and Oakland, California are rumoured to be stop-offs planned.

Destiny’s Child reunites

After going roughly two years without performing together on the same stage, the members of Destiny’s Child came together for the Stellar Gospel Music Awards.

Michelle Williams, Kelly Rowland and Beyonce — all wearing white outfits — reunited in Las Vegas to sing “Say Yes” together as a group.

Die-hard fans speculated that a reunion may be coming sooner rather than later when Williams posted a cryptic tweet on March 27 evening.

“I thank all of you guys who voted! Man this is incredible!!!!” she had written.

Prince sued for allegedly breaching contract of Judith Hill

Singer Prince is being sued for allegedly working with singer Judith Hill to release her first album as a free digital download, interfering with a contract Hill had with producer Jolene Cherry and Sony.

Hill signed an exclusive recording contract with Sony and Cherry, a producer known for discovering Lady Gaga, and began work on her first album, after she appeared on “The Voice” in 2013, reported Entertainment Weekly.

According to the suit, Cherry alleges that several months ago the producer heard rumours that Hill, in spite of their legal arrangement, was recording with Prince.

Dermot O’Leary quits ‘X-Factor’ UK as host

Dermot O’Leary is leaving “The X-Factor” UK after serving as a host since season four.

“I’d like to wish the team all the best for the future, especially whoever takes over from me,” he said.

“After eight wonderful years on @TheXFactor it’s time for me to move on. I’d like to thank ITV, Simon, The X Factor family and particularly the viewers, all of whom have been a big part of my life for so long,” O’Leary tweeted.

Ten killed in road mishap in Jharkhand

Ten passengers were killed and 25 others injured when their bus hurtled down into a gorge along the Garhwa-Ambikapur road in the district today.

The bus was headed to Bihar’s Sasaram from Chhatisgarh’s Raigarh when the mishap took place around 5 AM, police officials said.

The injured were shifted to a hospital.

India sends plane to airlift citizens from Yemen

Air India today flew its first flight to airlift hundreds of Indians stranded in the strife- torn Yemen, soon after the government decided to evacuate its citizens amid the chaotic situation in the Gulf country.

180-seater Airbus A320 aircraft took off from Delhi at 0745 AM for Yemen’s capital Sana’a via Muscat. It is likely to return from Yemen this evening.

The flight operations began after India got permission to operate flights from Sana’a for three hours a day.

Egypt prosecutor lists key Muslim Brotherhood members as ‘terrorists’

Egypt’s prosecutor general on Sunday listed 18 leading members of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group, including its chief, as terrorists, Xinhua reported citing Egypt’s official MENA news agency.

The list determined by Prosecutor General Hesham Barakat included the chief Brotherhood leader Mohamed Badie, his deputy and business tycoon Kahirat al-Shater, former parliament speaker Mohamed Saad al-Katatni and former youth and sports minister Osama Yassin.

Special prayers held for Jayalalithaa’s acquittal in disproportionate assets case

Supporters of former chief minister and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) supremo Jayalalithaa organised a special ‘Gaja’ (elephant) prayer in Coimbatore to pray for her early acquittal in the disproportionate assets case.

Water supply cut off in Old City – People suffer

Hyderabad Metropolitan Water and Sewerage Board made an announcement that there will be no water supply on April 4 in several areas of old city.

Dilsukhnagar , Saroornagar, Barkaas, Chandrayangutta, Chanchalguda, Yakuthpura, Maisaram, Vaishalinagar, Santhoshnagar, Malakpet and other localities are the worst affected areas.

Water Board stopped supply of water without notice on many occasions earlier. This is first time that water board has issued notification for disrupting water supply on April 4.

Dornier crash: Lt Kiran Shekhawat cremated with full military honours

The mortal remains of Lieutenant Kiran Shekhawat, the woman officer who died in the line of duty, was consigned to flames with full military honours in Kurthala village of Haryana’s Mewat district on Sunday.

Besides the family members, several politicians from the state also paid their homage to the departed soul.

Accompanied by the Navy officials, the body of the young officer was brought in the village wrapped around in a tricolour.

30 IS militants killed in Iraq

At least 30 Islamic State (IS) militants were killed on Sunday in clashes and US-led coalition airstrikes in the Iraqi provinces of Salahudin and Anbar, security sources said.

In Salahudin province, the security forces backed by the US and Iraqi aircraft continued their battles to free the IS-held provincial capital city of Tikrit and made a slight advance in the southern and western districts of Shishin and Dyoum after overnight clashes with the extremist militants.

Arab leaders agree to form unified force

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Sunday said that Arab League (AL) member states have agreed on the formation of a joint Arab military force to counter growing security threats.

A high level committee will be formed to start implementation of the joint Arab force decision, Sisi said.

In his speech on the final day of the two-day Arab summit held in Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, Sisi added that the heads of the Arab armies will soon meet to discuss the mechanism of forming the unified force.

EU ban on Tamil rebels to remain: Sri Lanka

The Sri Lankan government on Sunday said that it had managed to convince the European Union (EU) to maintain a ban on the Tamil Tiger rebels despite an earlier EU court decision to lift some sanctions on the group.

Deputy Foreign Minister Ajith Perera said that efforts of the new government headed by President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had ensured the rebels remain on the latest list of banned groups issued by the EU.

Bangladesh opposition calls 48-hour strike from Monday

Bangladesh’s main opposition alliance has called another round of nationwide strike from Monday morning demanding safe return of a leader who went missing several weeks ago.

Barkat Ullah Bulu, Spokesperson of former prime minister Khaleda Zia’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), made the strike announcement through a press release on Sunday, Xinhua reported.

The BNP on Saturday announced that it will stage demonstrations across the country on Sunday in protest against the disappearance of the party’s joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed.

Former Delhi legislator shot dead

Former Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) legislator Bharat Singh was shot at by unidentified gunmen here during a religious programme on Sunday evening, and succumbed to his injuries in a hospital, police said.

The 38-year-old Bharat Singh and two of his aides were injured when they were shot at around 8.10 p.m. while attending the programme at Abhinandan Vatika in west Delhi’s Najafgarh from where he was elected as a legislator in 2009.

Around 8-10 unidentified people indiscriminately fired over 15 rounds at them, police said.
