Salman’s driver confesses to hit-and-run accident

In a dramatic twist in the ongoing retrial of Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s hit-and-run case, his driver Ashok Singh has confessed to being responsible for the accident, a lawyer said here on Monday.

“The driver Ashok Singh has been put up by the defence. He has told the court that he was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident,” public prosecutor Pradeep Gharat told mediapersons here.

Muzaffarnagar riots: Cops to increase reward on absconding accused

The Uttar Pradesh police on Monday said that it has decided to double the cash reward on the one remaining accused in the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots who continues to be absconding.

“All those accused to have been involved in the riots have been arrested except one. Harender Singh, who is presently carrying a cash reward of Rs 5000 on him, is still absconding,” SP (Rural) Alok Priyadarshi said.

The US military believes it is a good time for a new generation to carry future commanders in chief as the current Air Force One fleet is getting old.

McCain’s team that has grown to 80 people in the past year is expected to grow to 100 shortly.

Minister carries revolver to school function, says it’s for self defence

Maharashtra Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan, who had drawn flak for attending a school function with a revolver tucked in his waist, on Monday said he keeps the gun for self defence and has been carrying it for the last 25 years.

“For the last 25 years I have been keeping a revolver…The revolver is merely for self defence…I admit that revolver was visible. But never have I pointed a revolver, or gotten involved in violence of any kind in my life,” Mahajan said.

Burdwan blast: NIA files chargesheet in special court

The National Investigation Agency on Monday filed a chargesheet in connection with the Burdwan blast case at a special court in Kolkata.

Last Monday, the NIA had arrested a person from a railway station in Kolkata, suspected of carrying out militant activities and playing a role in the blast.

The man is being suspected to be associated with militant organisation Jamaat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

The agency has so far arrested 18 suspected militants in the case. (ANI)

Jhelum in spate, evacuation on, 16 trapped as houses collapse

Seven months after the devastating floods, Kashmir was today staring at another deluge following incessant rains with River Jhelum in spate at several places in the Valley while 16 people were feared trapped after two houses collapsed in Budgam district.

As authorities declared a flood situation in the Valley, Prime Minister Narendra Modi rushed Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi to Kashmir for an on-the-spot assessment of the damage and assured the state of all assistance.

Missing man found murdered
(Siasat News): A 50-year-old hospital worker from Suraram, who went missing three days ago, was found murdered at an isolated place near Katta Maisamma temple.

The victim Bhaskar, used to work as a house keeping staff at Mallareddy Narayana Multispecialty Hospital in Suraram. On Thursday, Bhaskar went to his daughter’s place and left in the evening that he would be going to Shadnagar to meet a relative. However, he did not go to Shadnagar.

Mixed trend prevails at wholesale foodgrains market

Prices of thoor dal and moong dal increased while those of sugar and wheat decreased at the wholesale foodgrains market here today.

Besides, prices of all other commodities ruled steady.

Moong dal price increased sharply by Rs 300 per quintal to Rs 9,800 from Rs 9,500 earlier.

Thoor dal opened the day at Rs 9,000, gaining Rs 100 per quintal from its closing rates of Rs 8,900.

Sugar and wheat fell by Rs 100 per quintal to Rs 2,700 and Rs 2,800 from its previous rates of Rs 2,800 and Rs 2,900, respectively.

Chana futures down 0.41% on profit-booking

Chana prices fell by 0.41 per cent to Rs 3,623 per quintal in futures trade today amid profit-booking by speculators at prevailing levels.

Further, subdued demand in the spot market weighed on the prices.

At National Commodity and Derivative Exchange, chana for delivery in May eased by Rs 15, or 0.41 per cent, to Rs 3,623 per quintal with an open interest of 1,01,210 lots.

Likewise, the commodity for delivery in April traded lower by Rs 13, or 0.36 per cent, to Rs 3,602 per quintal in 1,35,700 lots.

Turmeric futures slide 0.66% on low spot demand

Turmeric prices fell by 0.66 per cent to Rs 7,524 per quintal in futures trading today as speculators trimmed positions amid a weak trend at spot market on subdued demand.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric for delivery in April declined by Rs 50, or 0.66 per cent, to Rs 7,524 per quintal with an open interest of 15,780 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in May shed Rs 46, or 0.60 per cent, to Rs 7,630 per quintal in 11,280 lots.

Gold futures decline to Rs. 26,420 per 10 gm

Gold futures prices today shed 0.56 per cent to Rs. 26,420 per 10 grams as participants offloaded their positions after the metal rates dropped in global markets.

Gold prices for delivery in April fell Rs. 149 or 0.56 per cent to trade at Rs. 26,420 per 10 gram on the Multi Commodity Exchange. It clocked a turnover of 176 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in June fell Rs. 136 or 0.51 per cent to Rs. 26,695 per 10 gram in 95 lots.

Centre assures support to J&K, PM deputes Naqvi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today rushed minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi to Kashmir for on-the-spot assessment of the flood situation and to coordinate with state authorities for whatever help is required.

As the flood situation began to turn serious in the Valley, Modi deputed Naqvi, Minister of State for Minority Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, to visit the State today.

Naqvi has been tasked to make assessment about the flood situation and coordinate with the state government besides officials of the army involved in rescue efforts.

Australia orders cockpit rule of two after Germanwings crash

Australia today mandated that at least two crew members be present in the cockpit at all times in planes with 50 or more passengers operating in the country, in response to the Germanwings crash that killed 150 people.

Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss said Australia’s domestic and international airlines will boost their cockpit safety and security requirements, effective immediately.

“Australian airlines will immediately update their Standard Operating Procedures to require two members of the operating crew or authorised persons on the flight deck at all times,” Truss said.

Kashmir Valley Flood Alert: Jhelum river crosses danger mark in Srinagar, South Kashmir

Jhelum river today crossed danger level in Srinagar and Sangam area of South Kashmir with heavy rains lashing most parts of the state which sounded an alert asking people to move to safer places.

A senior official said water level of river Jhelum at 6 AM at Sangam (South Kashmir) and Ram Munshi Bagh (Srinagar city) has touched 22′.4 feet and 18′.8 feet respectively. Danger level at Sangam is 21 feet and at Ram Munshi Bagh it is 18 feet.

Silver futures down by 1.1% on global cues

Silver prices fell by Rs 408 to Rs 37,987 per kg in futures trade today as speculators reduced their exposures amid a weakening trend overseas.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in May traded lower by Rs 408, or 1.06%, to Rs 37,987 per kg in a business turnover of 472 lots.

On similar lines, the white metal for delivery in July declined by Rs 365, or 0.94%, to Rs 38,448 per kg in a business volume of three lots.

In the international market, silver lost 0.2% at $16.91 an ounce in Singapore.

Cardamom futures gain 0.36% on spot demand

Cardamom prices rose by 0.36 per cent to Rs 937.50 per kg in futures trading today amid positive cues from spot market on pick-up in demand.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in April moved up by Rs 3.40, or 0.36 per cent, to Rs 937.50 per kg in a business turnover of 448 lots.

Analysts attributed the gain in cardamom prices at futures trade to rising demand in the spot market amid restricted supplies from producing belts.
