Poor performance in studies leads to suicide

An engineering student committed suicide at Meerpet on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The victim Anand Sai Reddy, 22, was a BTech third year student of Vardhaman College of Engineering in Shamshabad and a resident of Lalitha Nagar in Meerpet.
According to police Sai was depressed over his chronic illness and poor performance in studies committed suicide at his house in the early hours of Sunday.

Government to allow prepaid mobile services in Jammu & Kashmir for 2 more years

Prepaid mobile services in Jammu and Kashmir and the northeastern states will be allowed to continue for two more years from Wednesday in a decision on Monday by the government that will benefit the existing 33 million subscribers there.

The licence of the telecom operators for providing pre-paid services in these areas expires on Tuesday. A high-level committee headed by Union Home Secretary LC Goyal discussed the matter after which it was decided to give the nod for continuance of these pre-paid services, official sources said.

Jamie Foxx criticized for making fun of Bruce Jenner’s transition

Jamie Foxx was criticized by his fans, for poking fun at Bruce Jenner’s recent transition from man to a woman while hosting iHeartRadio Awards.

The ‘Annie’ actor was slammed by people on Twitter that he shouldn’t be allowed to host the show as he was rude and that he should grow up and need to be learned how to talk, Us Magazine reported.

Foxx introduced Jenner on the stage and intentionally fumbled on whether to call him or her and didn’t even stop there he added that he was just busting the former athlete’s balls while he still could. (ANI)

Ringo Starr feels Beatles could have reunited

The Beatles former member Ringo Starr has expressed his regret over the band’s failure to reunite after their split in 1970.

The famous English drummer said that they still had the songs that they could play together, but things didn’t work out well and they never had a reunion and he felt shameful about it, the Daily Express reported.

The 74-year-old drummer added that Sir Paul McCartney, John Lennon and George Harrison were bad at communicating with each other post-split, when there was a ray of hope that the reunion could happened.

Parents fail to recognize if child is overweight

A new research has found that parents usually misunderstand their healthy child is an obese child or not and ignore the official parameters.

The research led by London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine explained that parents from deprived backgrounds underestimate their child’s weight if they are Black or south Asian (v white), or if their child is male.

The research suggested that public health interventions for obesity in children was important to fill the gap between the parental perceptions and official guidelines

India rejects BP’s application for selling jet fuel

The government has rejected BP’s application for selling ATF, saying its expenditure in India so far does not qualify it to get a fuel retailing license, but has allowed it to apply afresh with more details.

The Petroleum Ministry, earlier this month, wrote to Europe’s second-largest oil company, saying its USD 477 million investment in India till date does not qualify it to begin selling jet fuel to airlines, a senior Oil Ministry official said.

J&K CM asks for Army support to tackle flood situation

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has asked the Army to provide logistic support, in terms of men and machinery, to the civil administration to effectively counter the flood situation in the Valley.

The direction to this effect was issued during a review meeting chaired by Sayeed here last evening. The army representative assured the Chief Minister that the Army will provide all required support to the government to tackle the imminent threat of floods, an official spokesman said.

Another blogger hacked to death in Bangladesh

A 27-year-old Bangladeshi blogger was today hacked to death by three machete-wielding suspected Islamists with two of them being arrested here, a month after a prominent American writer was killed in a similar manner.

Washiqur Rahman Mishu was stabbed to death in broad day light in Tejgaon Industrial area of Dhaka this morning.

“He died on the spot as the assailants attacked him with machetes…Doctors declared him dead when he was brought to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital,” a police official told PTI.

Hit-and-run twist: Salman Khan’s driver says he was driving the SUV

In the 2002 hit-and-run case, accused actor Salman Khan’s driver Ashok Singh has come forward to give his statement to the court which may provide relief to the actor.

He has testified in the court that he was driving the car on that ill-fated night and not Salman when the tyre burst and he lost control of the car.

Few days back, the 49 year-old actor had said in the court that a false statement was registered against him. He denied that he was drunk and he was not driving when the accident happened.

Unusual number of students suspected of cheating at Stanford University

A new report has shown that an unusually high number of students are suspected of cheating during the most recent term at Stanford University, putting faculty members and administrators of the prestigious institution on alert.

University Provost John Etchemendy sent a letter to faculty highlighting an unusually high number of troubling allegations of academic dishonesty that stem from a smattering of concerns from a number of winter courses, Fox News reported.

Etchemendy said students were cheating themselves and risk severe consequences.

Wade Eastwood, the movie’s stunt co-ordinator and Cruise’s friend asserted that Cruise stomps his feet and fights for it and told the studio that basically if they did not let him, he was not going to do the movie.

ABVP bandh affects train services in Bihar

Train services and road traffic were disrupted, vehicles damaged and shops forcibly closed at several places in Bihar today during a 24-hr Bihar bandh called by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

The bandh was called to protest police lathicharge and firing during ABVP’s ‘Vidhan Sabha march’ on March 26, in which several ABVP members were injured.

ABVP members assembled in the Patna University area of the state capital today and forced suspension of classes, closure of university offices and other educational institutions in the area.
