Telangana State will conduct its ECET 2015 on May 22 whose results will be out on June 9 according to information. Kakatiya University in charge Vice Chancellor Veera Reddy today released schedule for ICET 2015. The examinations will be held on May 22 and eligible students can apply till April 9. Students will get their hall tickets from April 30 and results will be announced on June 9. (NSS)

KCR has aerial survey at Yadagirigutta

Chief Minster K Chandrasekhar Rao today paid a visit to Yadagirigutta, the abode of Lord Lakshmi-Narasimha Swamy near Bhongir town of Nalgonda district
Temple priests and officials offered the Chief Minister a traditional welcome on the occasion. The Chief Minister performed special pujas to the presiding deity. Later KCR conducted an aerial survey along with architects on the development of the temple and premises. He also held a high-level review meeting on the development of the temple as per schedule.

AP among 10 States to get Swachh Bharat funds

Andhra Pradesh is among the ten States in the country which have been provided funds of nearly Rs 460 crore under Swachh Bharat Mission.

In his return reply to a question raised by M Murali Mohan, Hema Malini and other members in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, Minister of State for Urban Development Babul Supriyo informed that his ministry has so far sanctioned Rs 459.93 crore to 10 States as the first installment under Swachh Bharat Mission for the year 2014-15.

Dia Mirza, Lekhi in war of words on Mother Teresa issue

A war of words today erupted between actress Dia Mirza and BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi over the latter supporting RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s remark that conversion to Christianity was the main objective behind Mother Teresa’s service to the poor.

Lekhi had claimed that Mother Teresa had admitted in an interview that her job was to bring people to the fold of Christianity.

Mirza, whose father was a Catholic, took to Twitter to slam the leader.

Congress questions Mulayam’s secular credentials

Questioning the secular credentials of SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav for inviting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a family function here recently, Congress today said that a political person’s claims of personal and professional lives being separate are unpalatable.

“Where was the secularism of Mulayam Singh who rose to the dais in Saifai holding the hand of Narendra Modi. If a person leading a political life says that relationships are personal, it is not digestable,” UPCC president Nirmal Khatri said here.

Delhi Police launch Himmat WhatsApp, Hike for women’s safety

Enthused by the popularity of its ‘Himmat’ mobile app for women’s safety, the Delhi Police Wednesday launched the facility on WhatsApp and the Hike messenger group.

Women in Delhi can now send photos of autorickshaws and taxis they board to the Himmat WhatsApp group number 8800001091. The same number is for hike messenger group users.

The details sent on both the messenger services will reach the police control room and it will be preserved for a week. Police will take quick action in case of any emergency reported in the group.

Punjab, Haryana agree to make river pollution-free

The Punjab and Haryana government have agreed to make Ghaggar river pollution free by the end of the year, a senior Punjab government official said Wednesday.

“With the operationalisation of 25 Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs) located in 21 towns in the vicinity of Ghaggar, as per deliberations between Mr. Parkash Singh Badal Chief Minister Punjab and Mr. Manohar Lal Khattar Chief Minister Haryana recently, the river will be made pollution free,” Punjab chief secretary Sarvesh Kaushal said.

The Punjab government has asked district authorities to speed up work on the STPs.

HC notice to centre on poor condition of beggars’ homes

The Delhi High Court Wednesday issued notice to the Centre and city government on a PIL seeking basic facilities at beggars’ homes in the national capital.

A division bench of Chief Justice G. Rohini and Justice R.S. Endlaw sought response from the central government, Delhi government and Delhi police by April 22.

The PIL (public interest litigation) was pending before the Supreme Court since 2000. The apex court had it transferred to the Delhi High Court this year, asking to take appropriate action as the case relates to beggars’ homes in Delhi.

Telangana eyes IT investments from Bengaluru

Eyeing investments from tech hub Bengaluru, Telangana is offering a slew of incentives and speedy clearances to IT firms to expand or set up new development centres in Hyderabad.

“We are here not to take away IT companies or compete with the numero uno status of Bengaluru but to invite Indian and multinational firms to expand operations or set up new centres in Hyderabad,” Telangana Information and Technology (IT) minister K.T. Rama Rao told reporters here Wednesday.

Vyapam issue: MP governor seeks appointment with Pranab

Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav, who has been named an accused in the Vyapam recruitment scam, has sought appointment with President Pranab Mukherjee.

The Special Task Force (STF) had filed an FIR against Yadav for recommending for two youths in the Forest Guard examination conducted by Vyapam.

A Raj Bhavan source told IANS Wednesday evening that the governor has sought an appointment with the president Thursday. However, no confirmation in this regard was received from the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

PM approves Rs.426.83 crore for Jammu and Kashmir flood relief

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday approved financial aid of Rs.426.83 crore from his relief fund for assistance to the owners of severely and partially damaged houses during last year’s devastating floods in Jammu and Kashmir.

A Raj Bhavan spokesman said here Wednesday: “This aid will benefit the 1.87 lakh owners of houses damaged in the floods.”

“The prime minister had earlier announced PMNRF (Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund) relief of Rs.100,000 and Rs.50,000 (respectively) to each of the affected families whose pucca/kutcha house had been fully damaged.

Cabinet approves 15,000 MW solar projects by NTPC

The union cabinet Wednesday approved the setting up of 15,000 MW of grid connected solar power projects through the state-run generator NTPC under the National Solar Mission.

“Successful completion of additional 15,000 MW capacity of grid-connected solar photo voltaic power generation projects, mainly in the private sector, with largely private investment, under the National Solar Mission would accelerate the process of achieving grid tariff parity for solar power,” the cabinet communique said.

This would also help reduce consumption of kerosene and diesel, the release added.

Germany threatened by around 200 returning jihadis

Around 200 jihadis involved in wars in Iraq and Syria have returned to Germany, posing security risks to the country, a top German intelligence official said here Wednesday.

“We have to assume that we will also become targets of terrorist attacks, and we must adjust,” Xinhua quoted Hans-Georg Maassen, the president of German Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution.

38 militants killed in Egypt

At least 38 militants were killed and 27 injured in overnight raids on militant hideouts by the Egyptian forces in Sinai province, a security source said Wednesday.

The raids, that started late Tuesday and continued till early Wednesday, were carried out in Rafah and Sheikh Zuweid cities, Xinhua reported.

The militants belonged to the Sinai-based and Al Qaeda-inspired Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis (ABM) group, which had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State(IS) terrorist group, the source said.

Toll rises to over 120 in Afghanistan avalanches

The toll has risen to more than 120 while several others were still missing in avalanches that struck villages in eastern Afghan province of Panjshir overnight Tuesday and early Wednesday, police said.

“The latest figures showed that 120 people died and two dozen of others wounded as a result of heavy snow avalanche in Paryan, Dara, Khinj and Malaspa villages in Panjshir province overnight Tuesday and early Wednesday,” Gen. Abdul Aziz Ghairat told Xinhua.

The number of casualties of the disaster may rise further, he said.

10 held for refusing polio vaccines to children in Pakistan

Police have registered cases against 160 people and arrested 10 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan after they refused to administer polio vaccines to their children during the ongoing anti-polio campaign, media reported Thursday.

The cases were registered under Section 144 in Nowshera district after the parents refused to let their children receive anti-polio drops, Dawn online reported.

Police initiated a crack down to arrest the remaining accused.

Security Council urges parties in Yemen to accelerate talks

The UN Security Council Wednesday urged all parties in Yemen to accelerate UN-brokered negotiations and resolve their differences through dialogue, in order to reach consensual agreements and end the current political crisis, Xinhua news agency reported.

In a statement issued here, the Council members reiterated their call for all parties in Yemen, including the Shiite Houthi group, to adhere to resolving differences and achieving political goals through dialogue, rather than through violence and provocation.

Australian man dies in Syria fighting against IS

An Australian man fighting against Islamic State (IS) militia in Syria has been killed, becoming the first Westerner to die fighting alongside Kurdish forces, Xinhua news agency reported Thursday.

The news was reported by the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) Thursday, who revealed the man was killed when IS fighters attacked Kurdish forces in northern Syria Tuesday.

Although SOHR did not disclose details regarding the man, including his name or age, they did confirm he was an Australian citizen.

Communist Party to oppose all ordinances by Centre

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Wednesday said that it would oppose all the ordinances brought by the Centre during the ongoing Parliament session.

“Firstly, in this session, we will oppose efforts to convert these ordinances into laws that are legislations,” CPI (M) general secretary Prakash Karat said.

Karat also said that the upcoming Budget would not be much pro-people.

FBI arrests three men planning to join IS

The Federal Bureau of Investigation(FBI) Wednesday arrested three New York residents who allegedly were planning to join the Islamic State(IS) and commit terrorist acts in the US, officials with the agency and the Justice Department said.

Abdurasul Hasanovich Juraboev and Abror Habibov, both citizens of Uzbekistan, and Akhror Saidakhmetov, a citizen of Kazakhstan, were facing charges of conspiracy for supporting that terrorist group.

Mumbai attack case: Pak ATC re-issues summons to 4 witnesses

A new Pakistani anti-terrorism court hearing the 2008 Mumbai attack case involving seven suspects, including mastermind Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, today re-issued summons to four official witnesses for the next hearing on March 4 after they failed to appear in the court.

“The Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Sohail Akbar today adjourned the hearing for next Wednesday and re-issued summons to four official witnesses,” a court official told PTI after the hearing.

The official, however, did not give any specific reason as to why the witnesses did not turn up for today’s hearing.

JNU professor raped by PhD student, accused arrested

In a shocking incident, a Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) female professor was raped by a student of the same university, reports said on Wednesday.

Reports say that the accused, who is a PhD student in the prestigious university, sexually assaulted the professor after claiming that he was son of a Nepal minister and would help her in job.

A rape case was filed in Vasant Kunj area on February 23.

Based on the complaint, Delhi Police have arrested the 30-year-old accused and will produce him in Patiala House court later today.
