Cricket betting racket unearthed
(Siasat News): The special operation team of Cyberabad police unearthed a cricket betting racket and arrested five persons. However, the kingpin of the racket is still at large.

The betting was on the match being played between Ireland and UAE. A house situated at Hill Colony in Vanasthalipuram was raided and 11 cellphones, a Swift car and Rs. 1,04,500 were seized from their possession.

3 Al Jazeera journalists arrested for flying drone over Paris

Three Al Jazeera journalists have been taken into custody for the alleged illegal flying of a drone in Paris after being spotted by the police in the Bois de Boulogne area, a report said.

A judicial source said that while one of them was piloting the drone, the second one was filming and the third was watching. A spokesman for prosecutors said that there was “no relationship for the moment” between the arrests and mysterious drone flights spotted over Paris recently, reported the BBC.

The arrests came as drones were spotted over city landmarks for a second night running on Tuesday.

The terrorists were arrested one year after the attack along with a large amount of ammunition.

Thousands of rare books, documents, manuscripts housed in Mosul library, spanning centuries of human learning, have been burnt down by Islamic State (IS) militants, a report said.

Reports initially suggested that about 8,000 books had been burnt by the terror group but Al Rai’s chief international correspondent Elijah J. Magnier said that a Mosul Library official said that at least 112,709 manuscripts and books, some of which were registered on a UNESCO rarities list, had been burnt to ashes, reported The Independent.

Former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has reportedly said that Afghanistan must share power with Taliban and block Indian influence on its soil if it wants to establish peace in the country.

According to the Dawn, Musharraf hailed President Ashraf Ghani’s September inauguration as a new opportunity for reconciliation between the government and Taliban and related insurgent groups.

He said, ” Ashraf Ghani is a balanced man” and added, “I think he’s a great hope.” However, he also warned that Pakistan and India should avoid engaging in a proxy war.

The Greek authorities have suspended professional football in the country indefinitely after violence broke out during Panathinaikos’ 2-1 win over arch-rivals Olympiakos in their Super League tie on Sunday.

Earlier, the league was marred by violence and subsequently got suspended twice this season in September and November.

Reflecting on the issue, Super League president Giorgos Borovilos said that they had a new government who were looking to bring the subject up for discussion and implement state laws related to it, the BBC reported.

Researchers at the University of Georgia have shown in studies of post-menopausal animals that a mix of phytochemicals, along with vitamin D, may help protect the liver against inflammation caused by the accumulation of fat.

Study’s lead author Colette Miller said that women going through menopause have an increased tendency to store fat in their liver. They also have increases in visceral fat-the fat around their organs-where inflammation also occurs.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday announced a compensation of Rs one crore for the family of Narottam Das, the CRPF jawan who lost his life in a Naxal attack in Bihar.

“Although we cannot compensate the loss, but Delhi Government will help his family monetarily. The Delhi Government will provide a compensation of Rs one crore to the family of Narottam Das. He has sacrificed his life for the nation. We are proud of him. He laid down his life to safeguard ours. We stand with his family in this difficult hour,” Kejriwal told ANI.

Putin’s office reportedly compiled roadmap to annex eastern Ukraine 12 months before offensive

Russian President Vladimir Putin has been reportedly planning how Moscow would annex parts of Ukraine and the President’s office allegedly compiled a detailed roadmap for annexing the eastern part of the country 12 months before the offensive began in the area, show leaked documents.

According to the Independent, the document showed that Russia had identified the former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych as “politically bankrupt” and planned how a “coup” would lead to Russian expansion.

The reports, however, could not be independently verified.

Three New York residents arrested for plotting to join hands with IS in Syria

Three residents of New York City have been arrested for allegedly plotting to travel to Syria to join hands with Islamic State ( IS) militants, said the U.S. Justice Department.

Two citizens were identified as Uzbekistan citizens and one a citizen of Kazakhstan, reported Fox News.

One of the residents arrested also said that he would kill the United States President if ordered to do so.
