NMDC reviews the price of its products every month. After holding the price of iron ore for July-October period, it had reduced the rate of lumps by Rs 200 per tonne for November.

State-run NMDC has reduced iron ore prices by Rs 200-300 per tonne for the current month as weak global prices, which nosedived to five-and-a-half-year lows, are putting pressure on domestic rates.

‘Grateful to Bedi for sparing my family in BJP ads today’, says Kejriwal

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said he was thankful to Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) chief ministerial candidate for Delhi, Kiran Bedi for leaving his family out of the latest advertisement targeting him.

“I am grateful to Kiran Bedi ji for sparing my family and kids out of BJP’s ads today,” Kejriwal tweeted.

Bedi, meanwhile, refused to comment on the AAP leader’s tweets saying, “I am going for rally now, ask me about my work.”

Earlier on Saturday, the BJP had put up a newspaper advertisement targeting the Aam Aadmi Party and its chief.

‘Frozen’s’ Idina Menzel lands TV gig

Idina Menzel is set to star in a TV comedy series called ‘Happy Time.’

The half-hour sitcom, which is written by Randi Barnes, is to be produced by Ellen DeGeneres via her A Very Good Production and Warner Bros. TV, Deadline.com reported.

The single-camera comedy, which is slated for 2015-2016 TV cycle and is expected to be taken out in the summer, is described as a comedy about a woman (the ‘Let it Go’ singer) in the public eye who’s ready to stop pretending she’s so damned happy all the time.

Helicopter team rescues dog from US river

In a dramatic airborne rescue, firefighters used a helicopter to save a small brown dog from drowning in a rain-swollen river here.

The dog was spotted floating down Los Angeles River in Burbank following thunderstorms on January 30.
To carry out the rescue, a firefighter was lowered from a helicopter into the river near the Cahuenga Pass. He then swam towards the Corgi/Chihuahua mix, and caught it in his arms, before lifting it to safety.

The seven-year-old dog did not have a tag or microchip but authorities believe the canine has an owner, as it had a collar and leash.

PCB chief says banned Amir will be monitored ‘on and off the field’ before comeback

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) boss Shaharyar Khan has rejected claims that banned pace bowler Mohammad Amir is being fast-tracked back into international cricket, stating that the tainted bowler will be monitored on and off the field before he makes a comeback into the national squad.

Earlier in the week, the International Cricket Council (ICC) had decided to allow the banned bowler to play in domestic matches under the auspices of the PCB with immediate effect.

China wants Pak to adopt effective measures to protect its workers, projects in country

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has said that the country hopes that Pakistan will adopt effective measures in order to ensure protection of Chinese workers and projects in the country.

According to the Express Tribune, Li said that China wants to expand connections and work on assistance with Pakistan in all areas.

Porn-based malware on Facebook infects thousands of accounts in two days

A porn-based malware on Facebook is believed to have affected over 1,10,000 accounts in the past two days that dupes users into clicking on an adult link that infects their computers with a Trojan to hijack vital parts.

According to Daily Star, the link once clicked, asks users to download the latest Flash Player update to view it.

The link also infects the computers with Trojan after it is clicked wherein it can hijack vital information from the computers.

Thirteen killed in Bangladesh factory fire

At least 13 people, including two women, were killed and more than 12 others injured on Saturday after a devastating fire broke out in a plastic factory in Bangladesh’s capital.

The fire at the five-storey plastic goods manufacturing factory in Mirpur started at around 5:45 pm (local time) and was brought under control in around two hours.

Girl students eve-teased in UP

Seven Dalit girls were allegedly harassed by four youths belonging to a different community in Kasimpur Patheri village under Chapar police station, police said on Sunday.

Last evening, the girls, who are students of Chapar inter college, were returning to their village and were accosted by four students who eve-teased them, SHO KK Gotem said.

The accused also thrashed family members of the girls who had reached the spot opposing the harassment, he said.

The situation was under control by senior police officials who reached the spot later.

Re-investigation of 1984 riot cases by SIT likely

A government-appointed committee has recommended constitution of a SIT for re-investigation of the 1984 anti-Sikh riot cases.

The committee headed by former Supreme Court Judge Justice (retd) G P Mathur has submitted its report to Home Minister Rajnath Singh last week and recommended fresh probe of the anti-Sikh riot cases through a Special Investigation Team, official sources said.

An order to this effect is likely after the February 7 Delhi Assembly polls as the Model Code of Conduct is in place in the national capital now, the sources said.

A team of scientists has identified two new fluorescent tumor-targeting agents that seek and light up brain cancer cells, suggesting they may help neurosurgeons to more accurately localize and completely resect brain tumors.

Researchers at University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health evaluated two “tumor-selective” fluorescent agents, called CLR1501 and CLR1502, for their ability to differentiate brain tumors from normal brain tissue in mice.

A new Vatican report has found that undergoing plastic surgery is not at all worth, as it claims that it is a “burqa made of flesh”.

The document, ‘Women’s Cultures: Equality and Differences’ explained that cosmetic surgeries are aggressive towards the feminine identity and could also lead to eating disorders and depression, the Independent reported.

The document writers mentioned that any non-medico-therapeutic plastic surgeries are completely manipulative, as it amputates human expressions from the face, and physically reduces a woman’s ability to empathize with others.

Japan responds with anger and defiance to IS’ beheading of hostage Kenji Goto

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has responded with anger and defiance to the video showing the beheading of Japanese hostage Kenji Goto by Islamic State (IS) saying that the country “would not give in to terrorism” and that they would expand their support to fight against the IS.

According to BBC, the video was released by the IS less than a week after the apparent beheading of another hostage Haruna Yukawa.

Goto was a respected journalist known for his work covering the suffering of civilians in war zones.

UN chief Ban Ki-moon urges Pak to ‘redouble’ efforts in fight against terrorism

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has urged Pakistan to ” redouble” its efforts to combat terrorism and protect religious and ethnic minorities following the attack at a mosque in Shikarpur.

According to the Express Tribune, the UN chief’s spokesman said that he was “appalled” by the attacks that target people on the basis of religious affiliation.

Ban Ki-moon condemned the attack and offered his condolences to the families of the victims and sympathies to the Pakistani government and people.

Egyptian court declares Palestinian armed wing Hamas as ‘terrorist’ group

An Egyptian court has declared the armed wing of Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas as a “terrorist” group after the court put a ban on it.

According to Dawn News, Hamas condemned the ruling against the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades as “a dangerous political decision that serves the interests of the occupier,” referring to Israel.

The verdict accused Hamas that control the Gaza Strip , of direct involvement in ” terrorist operations” in the Sinai, said a court official.

Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Manjit Singh on Sunday called on Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh over the issue of SIT probe in the 1984 riots.

“We have requested the Home Minister that recommendations given by GP Mathur ji should be taken into consideration, he assured us justice will be done,” Singh told media persons after the meeting.

Earlier in the day, Singh said that the Akali Dal has been fighting from a long time for justice for the riot victims.
