Indian foodies can look up to an authentic British gourmet storm next month when some of UK’s finest chefs set up base in Chennai and roll out 60 dishes like British Chicken Tikka Masala and Balti during a food festival that takes ‘curry’ back to its spiritual home.

Though it sounds like selling ice to eskimos and carrying coal to Newcastle, Indian diners can tuck into British curry during the Taste of Britain Curry Festival from March 6-14.

Nine Indians held at Turkey-Syria border, deported

Nine Indians from three southern states were detained at the Turkey-Syria border and deported to India where they were being questioned on their motives, police said Saturday.

“Turkish authorities detained the nine-member Indian group at the border while attempting to cross over to Syria and deported them to India late Friday,” city Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi said in a statement here.

Whitney Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown, who was revived recently after being found face down and unconscious in a bath tub full of water, remains in a medically induced coma suffering from swelling on the brain.

The 21-year-old aspiring singer was placed unconscious after she was found by husband Nick Gordon in a bathtub full of water at their Atlanta home, the Mirror reported.

According to the reports, medics at the North Fulton hospital did fear for Brown, who was left heartbroken at mum’s death in 2012.

Tweeting publicly about sexism could improve a woman’s wellbeing as it has the potential to let them express themselves in ways they feel can make a difference, a new study suggests.

The study examined whether using Twitter to respond to sexism could be done in a public way without any negative effects to their wellbeing.

“We know women can be badly affected by experiences of sexism and that responding publicly can be stressful and risky,” said Dr Mindi Foster from the Wilfrid Laurier University, Canada.

Japan launches intelligence satellite

Japan Sunday launched a backup information gathering satellite (IGS), the country`s first launch of this year.

The satellite is equipped with a radar spy instrument capable of peering through clouds, darkness and camouflage to obtain high-resolution imagery of the Earth`s surface. But the satellite`s exact capabilities were not disclosed, Xinhua reported.

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. launched the spy satellite aboard a H-2A rocket from Tanegashima Space Centre in Kagoshima prefecture.

IS claims to have smuggled thousands of militants into Europe as part of secret operation

An operative working with the Islamic State (IS) militant group has revealed that they have successfully smuggled thousands of fighters into Europe as a part of their clandestine operation.

According to the Daily Express, the operative revealed that the ongoing secret operation is a complete success and smiled as he said “just wait”.

The IS militant spoke on conditions of anonymity and is believed to be the first to enter western countries.

He also said that IS is actively smuggling deadly gunmen across the sparsely-guarded 565-mile Turkish border and on to richer European nations.

The Union Urban Development Ministry has sent a proposal to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet to set up a fare-fixation panel which will submit its report within three months of getting approved.

Thirty years after the anti-Sikh riots in Delhi, a fresh probe is likely with a government-appointed committee recommending constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for the same, a move seen by the Congress as an attempt to woo voters ahead of polls here.

The committee headed by former Supreme Court Judge Justice (retd) GP Mathur, which was set up on December 23 last year to look into the possibility of re-investigation of the 1984 riots, submitted its report to Home Minister Rajnath Singh last week, sources said.

23 FDI proposals deferred for possible tax treaty abuse

Getting tough with investment proposals from tax heavens, FIPB has deferred 23 applications in its last three meetings apprehending “treaty abuse”.

According to sources, the Department of Revenue has expressed doubt that a few foreign companies were evading tax by routing their investments through tax heaven countries with whom India has signed Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA).

The Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB), they said, is keen that guidelines should be prepared to deal with such investment proposals.

Govt to review life cover scheme under Jan Dhan after 5 years

The government will review after five years the structure of Rs 30,000 life cover given as incentive to the poor for opening bank accounts under the flagship Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY).

“The life cover of Rs 30,000 under the scheme will be initially for a period of 5 years, i.e. Till the close of financial year 2019-20. “Thereafter, the scheme will be reviewed and terms and condition of its continuation, including the issue of future payment of premium by the insured thereafter, would be suitably determined,” the Finance Ministry said.
