Congress President Sonia Gandhi today slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, saying one was a “pracharak” and the other a “dharnebaaj”, as she asked voters to save Delhi from those who make only “hollow promises”.
“While one party has a pracharak, who only does ‘prachar’ the other just has a dharnebaaj, who is all the time busy organising dharnas. Delhi needs good governance and not false promises… BJP and AAP can only talk big and make hollow promises.

Dattatreyya to convene inter-State meeting over child trafficking

Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreyya has expressed shock over the fact that thousands of children were being exploited as child labourers in the Hyderabad bangle making industry.

“This is totally unacceptable. The recent raids conducted by the police and Labour Department of the state of Telangana and the rescue of nearly 400 has to be sustained until the last child is freed. It is learnt that all efforts are being made by the state government to repatriate these children, most of who are from Bihar,” he said in a statement here on Sunday.

Congress won’t win even single seat in Delhi: BJP

Finance Minister Etela Rajendar has said the KCR government was working towards the goal of providing water tap connection to every house in the villages in the State. Stating that there was no dearth of funds for welfare and developmental activities in the State, Rajendar said the government was keen on transforming the fledgling State into “Bangaru” Telangana.

Iran’s former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has launched a website ahead of parliamentary elections next year in a sign he may be eyeing a political comeback despite a recent corruption scandal.

The website, ahmadinejad.Ir, was launched Sunday with a big smiling photo of Ahmadinejad and the slogan: “We will come soon.”

Harish ridicules Congress criticism over fee reimbursement

Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao has said the criticism of Congress leaders on students’ fee reimbursement issue was ridiculous.

Talking to mediapersons on Sunday, Harish Rao pointed out that the previous Congress government failed to make students fee reimbursement for the last three years. However, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to pay old and new arrears of students’ fee reimbursement.

Harish Rao also pointed out that the TRS government has introduced several welfare and developmental programs in a short span of seven of months forming the government. (NSS)

Three killed as Jagan’s bus hits car

Three persons, including a woman, were killed on the spot, when a school bus in which YSR Congress president YS Jaganmohan Reddy was proceeding to his hunger strike camp at Tanuku, dashed against a car at Morampudi this morning. Two bikes and a car were destroyed in the accident.

Two others, who suffered grievous injuries were shifted to a hospital. The ill-fated bus belonged to the Narayana school in Kakinada. It may be mentioned here that Jaganmohan Reddy commenced hunger strike at Tanuku after hearing the problems of farmers of Nidamarru, Penumuru and Undavalli.

Water should be allocated state wise: Vidyasagar

Advisor to Telangana Government Vidyasagar Rao here on Sunday said the river water allocations should be made on States’ wise instead of projects wise.

Speaking to the media in the Secretariat, Vidyasagar Rao said out of 481 tmc of water coming from Jurala to Nagarjunasagar, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States have to share 281 and 200 tmc respectively. The difference of share of water between the two States is 811 tmc. As per the AP Reorganization Act, Telangana should get 299 tmc and Andhra Pradesh 512 tmc.

Mahesh Bhatt gifts book to Ali Fazal

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt has gifted a copy of his book “A Taste of Life: The Last Days of U.G Krishnamurti” to actor Ali Fazal.

Ali features in the newly-released film “Khamoshiyan”, produced by Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt under their Vishesh Films banner.

“He gave it to me as a sign of friendship. I share a very unsaid unstated relationship with him. It’s not about exchanging books. It’s ideologies being bartered,” Ali said in a statement.

“I have grown very fond of Bhatt saab. He reminds me of a pleasant time,” he added.

“Khamoshiyan” also stars Gurmeet Choudhary and Sapna Pabbi.

Horror in Japan as video purports to show hostage beheaded

Appalled and saddened by news of journalist Kenji Goto’s purported beheading by Islamic State extremists, Japan on Sunday ordered heightened security precautions and said it would persist with its non-military support for fighting terrorism.

The failure to save Goto raised fears for the life of a Jordanian fighter pilot also held by the militant group that controls about a third of both Syria and Iraq.

Unlike some earlier messages delivered in the crisis, the video that circulated online late yesterday purporting to show a militant beheading Goto did not mention the pilot.

Shift Capital only after providing facilities to staff: Ashok Babu

Surajkund crafts fair begins near Delhi

The 29th edition of the Surajkund International Crafts Mela (fair) began Sunday at Surajkund in Haryana’s Faridabad district, adjoining New Delhi.

The Mela will be held till Feb 15.

Known for showcasing richness and diversity of handicrafts, handlooms and the cultural heritage of the country, the fair has Lebanon as the partner country and Chhattisgarh as the theme state this time.

The fair was inaugurated Sunday by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in the presence of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh.

AP cabinet meeting on Monday

The next meeting of Andhra Pradesh Council of Ministers will be held on Monday.

The AP’s cabinet meeting, to be chaired by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, will be held in the L-Block of the State Secretariat. Besides taking important decisions, the cabinet is likely to discuss the progress of works on the construction of new capital and preparations for forthcoming budget session of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly.

Govt has no desire to issue ordinances: Venkaiah

Faced with criticism over the government issuing several ordinances, Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today said the government has “no fancy for issuing ordinances” and that the Opposition should allow the Parliament to function properly.

“Nobody has got a fancy for issuing ordinances. We don’t want to issue ordinances. But a violent minority cannot obstruct a silent majority from taking the country’s development forward,” the Parliamentary Affairs Minister said.

Obama condemns murder of Japanese hostage by IS

US President Barack Obama has condemned the “heinous murder” of a second Japanese hostage by the Islamic State terror group and said his administration with its allies will continue taking decisive action to degrade and destroy the dreaded outfit.

“The United States condemns the heinous murder of Japanese citizen and journalist Kenji Goto by the terrorist group IS,” Obama said in a statement yesterday.

An online video released last night showed an Islamic State militant behead the Japanese journalist which ended days of negotiations by diplomats to save the man.

Disturbed by Modi supporters, Bedi stops speech midway

BJP leaders at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally here Sunday were caught by surprise when the party’s chief ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi threatened to stop her speech midway as she was getting disturbed by the crowd chanting Modi’s name.

The thousands of people gathered at the DDA ground in Dwarka’s Sector 14 were waiting eagerly for Modi, and were raising slogans praising him and the BJP at regular intervals.
