Misbah faces flak from former players

Former cricketers today lashed out at Misbah-ul-Haq as the Pakistan captain spoke about the difficulties he was finding in selecting a right combinations in the World Cup.

“A lot is being said about the team’s performance and what combination should have been played. Also references are given to the 1992 World Cup. I just think people should look at the squad that played in that tournament and understand how difficult it is for us to settle on a combination right now,” Misbah said today in Brisbane.

Another Hindu temple vandalised in US

A Hindu temple in the US has been vandalised with several windows broken and the word “fear” painted on its wall, the second such incident in America’s Washington state this month.

Vandals used bricks to break several windows and then painted the word “fear” on the wall of the Kent Hindu Temple
late Thursday night.

Members who came to worship last night were greeted by shards of broken glass after vandals targeted the building.

Regular visitors at the temple said they were not sure if they were targeted for their faith or if neighbourhood teens

Wrongly convicted Chinese man seeks 3 mn yuan in compensation

A Chinese man, who was wrongly convicted of murder, has sought from the country’s top court 3 million yuan (USD 490,000) in compensation after he refused a local court’s previous offer.

The Supreme People’s Court (SPC) announced today that it had accepted the application filed by Wang Yuansong, who served 10 years of a life sentence handed down in 2004 by southwest China’s Guizhou provincial higher court.

Wang was released in 2014 after a judicial review overturned the decision, state-run Xinhua reported.

Union budget: Air travel becomes costly, Air India to get Rs 2500 crore

Air India has been allocated Rs 2,500 crore as equity infusion during the year.

First and business class air travellers would find flying costlier from the next fiscal with an almost 2 % hike in service tax rate proposed in the general budget, which also earmarked Rs 2,500 crore for ailing Air India in 2015-16.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today announced hike in service tax from 12.36 % to 14 % for travel by air in first and business class in the Budget, making it costlier.

Action will be taken against who failed to get the land regularized: District Collector

The Hyderabad district Collector K. Nirmala on Friday said that administration has finalized 1,200 applications following verification for regularization of encroached government lands smaller than 125 square yards for BPL families.

Addressing the media, Ms. Nirmala informed that so far 64,000 received under GO 58 out of which 13,000 applications have been verified. Verification has been completed in nine mandals in the district, and in remaining mandals it will be completed by March 10.

Actress Sonam Kapoor hospitalised; swine flu test conducted

Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor was admitted to a hospital here today where her blood sample has been taken for swine flu and other medical tests.

The 29-year-old actress, who was shooting for Rajshri Production’s ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’, showed influenza-like symptoms, said the doctors treating her at Sterling Hospital here.

“She was suffering from cough, sore throat and mild fever and has been kept under observation,” Kamal Parikh, medical director of Sterling Hospital, told PTI.

Delhi Police get Rs. 5,372 crore for upgrading force

Delhi Police have been allocated Rs. 5,372.88 crore for upgrading the force during the 2015-16 financial year, according to the interim budget proposals presented in the Lok Sabha on Saturday.

Of the total amount, Rs. 390 crore was earmarked for plan and Rs.4,979.48 for non-plan expenditure.

An amount of Rs. 7 crore has been allocated for developing the traffic and communications network in the National Capital Region (NCR) mega cities and a model traffic system while Rs. 8 crore has been earmarked for installing traffic signals.

Loans, scholarships to help needy students

The government will set up an authority to administer and monitor scholarship as well educational loan schemes, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said on Saturday.

“With a view to enabling all poor and middle class students to pursue higher education of their choice without any constraint of funds, I propose to set up a fully IT-based Student Financial Aid Authority to administer and monitor scholarship as well educational loan schemes, through the Pradhan Mantri Vidya Lakshmi Karyakram,” Jaitley said.

Visa on arrival now for 150 countries

India will provide visa on arrival (VoA) to people from 150 countries, a sharp rise from the 43 countries now, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced on Saturday.

“Last year VoA was issued to 43 countries. As tourism in the country has increased, I propose to increase the countries covered under this to 150,” Jaitley said while presenting the union budget in parliament.

Govt. to set up manufacturing hubs in South-East Asia under ‘Act East’ policy

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday proposed thatr the government set up manufacturing hubs in four South-East Asia countries as part of its ‘Act East’ policy.

“The ‘Act East’ policy of the government endeavours to cultivate extensive economic and strategic relations in South-East Asia. In order to catalyse investments from the Indian private sector in this region, a project development company will set-up the manufacturing hubs in Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam through separate special purpose vehicles,” Jaitley said in his 2015-16 budget speech in Parliament.

Government pro-poor and pro-industry, says Finance Minister Arun Jaitley

Emphasising the need for a balancing act between infrastructure and welfare spending, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday said the BJP-led government is “pro-poor and pro-industry”.

The Minister, who presented Budget 2015-16 in Parliament today, said his challenge was to maintain balance between growth and keeping a check on fiscal deficit.

“We are concerned about building infrastructure and maintaining growth rates.Industry should grow fast.If I do not earn from the industries, how will I serve the poor?” he told Lok Sabha TV.

Onlin PG Med Exam on March 1st

For the first time, PGMET will be held online instead of off line examination pattern followed earlier scheduled to be held on March 1. The NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) has made all arrangements for the Postgraduate Medical Entrance.

The computer-based exam will be held at 44 test centres in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana — 18 in Andhra University region, six in Sri Venkateswara University region and 20 in Osmania University region (TS).

Black money menace: 10-year jail, other tough measures promised by Arun Jaitley

Under attack over unearthing black money, government on Saturday came out with a proposal for a comprehensive law to check the menace by providing for a jail term upto 10 years for hiding foreign assets.

Disclosing this while presenting the Union Budget, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley also said a host of other tough measures including dis-incentivising of cash dealings in real estate and other transactions will be put in place.
