Uber announces plans to develop its own ‘self-driving cars’

Self-driving cars may soon join Uber’s fleet of taxis as the taxi-hailing service is working to develop the advance technology, the company said.

Uber announced its joint plans with Carnegie Mellon University to set up the Uber Advanced Technologies Center in Pittsburgh. Some of its projects would include, research, designing autonomous vehicles, as well as vehicle safety technologies, The Verge reported.

Freed Al-Jazeera journalist Peter Greste, who was arrested by Egyptian authorities along with other journalists for aiding the Muslim Brotherhood, has said that he is relieved to be free but feels “incredible angst” at leaving his colleagues in jail.

He was deported on Sunday after spending 400 days behind bars, reported the BBC.

Greste termed his release “a massive step forward” for Egypt but expressed concern for other journalists convicted in absentia. “If it’s right for me to be free then it’s right for all of them to be free,” he said.

Police officers in Cyberabad who are supposed to take up the passport verification job were on Monday given tablets, so that the verification of Passports can be done only in 3 days.

Regional passport officer Ashwini Sattaru, along with Telangana IG Intelligence B Shivadhar Reddy and Cyberabad police commissioner CV Anand handed over around 70 tabs for doing the job expeditiously. It is expected to reduce the time taken for verification from 13 days to three days.

Court to Record Pre-Summoning Evidence in Plea Against Kejriwal

A Delhi court today fixed April 9, for recording of pre-summoning evidence in a criminal complaint seeking action against AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal for allegedly exhorting voters to take bribes from BJP and Congress and vote for his party.

“I am fixing it for April 9, for recording of the pre-summoning evidence,” Metropolitan Magistrate Richa Gusain Solanki said.

During the hearing, advocate Arun Kumar who is also the complainant in the matter, argued that Kejriwal has instigated the public to take bribe from political parties.

Kiran Bedi alleges office owner getting threats

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) chief ministerial candidate for Delhi, Kiran Bedi Tuesday alleged the owner of her office in Krishna Nagar, her constituency for the Feb 7 assembly elections, is getting life threats.

“What’s wrong with losers? My Krishna Nagar Constituency office owner is receiving life threats and bomb to be placed in his office,” Bedi tweeted Tuesday.

“The owner of the building of our Krishna Nagar Constituency being threatened and being told to get us to vacate the office since last night,” she said.

Lorry stolen from ORR
(Siasat News): A lorry was stolen from Cyberabad’s outer ring road. It is suspected that a gang of vehicle looters is allegedly involved in it.

Though police regularly conduct search operations and patrolling in the area, then too such crimes have become permanent headache for the police. The lorry was going towards Patancheru.

Matar paneer dry

Ingredients

Paneer cubes- 1 cup

Green peas/matar- 1 cup Onion- 2 (chopped),

optional Tomato- 1 (chopped)

Milk- ½ cup Ginger- 1 inch (minced)

Garlic pods- 5-6 (chopped)

Red chilli powder- 1tsp

Turmeric powder- a pinch

Garam masala- ½ tsp

Coriander powder- 1tsp

Cumin seeds powder- ½ tsp

Bay leaf- 1

Salt- as per taste

Water- ½ cup Oil- ½ cup

Procedure

Heat 3tbsp oil in a frying pan.

Season with bay leaf. Add the onions (if using), ginger and garlic.

Saute on a medium flame for a minute.

Methi Paratha

Ingredients

3 cups fenugreek leaves-chopped fine

1 cup whole wheat flour salt to taste

1/2 cup gram flour

1/4 tsp asafoetida

1/2 tsp chilli powder

2 Tbsp ghee

1 Tbsp chopped coriander leaves

1 tsp finely chopped green chillies

1/2 cup ghee for frying

Method

This is made by kneading all the ingredients together and then rolling and cooking it like a normal paratha.

Dehradun Artisan Creates Replica of Taj Mahal

A city-based artisan has built a replica of the historic Taj Mahal in marble on a six square feet platform to recreate the magic of the original “monument of love”.

The miniature representation of one of the seven wonders of the world has been carved in Makrana marble like the original by 65-year-old Furkan Ahmed, who was helped by his son Shimal Ahmed in this venture.

The four feet high replica caught eyeballs at a recent trade fair on Parade Ground in the city as visitors marvelled at its striking resemblance with the 17th century mausoleum.

Indian Oil Corp to invest Rs 5,300 cr in LPG import facility

Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), the nation’s largest oil firm, Monday said it will invest Rs 5,300 crore in setting up an LPG import facility at Paradip in Odisha and laying pipelines.

IOC board in its meeting on January 29 approved laying of a 1,150 km oil pipeline from Paradip to Hyderabad at a cost of Rs 2,789 crore.

The Paradip-Hyderabad product pipeline “is proposed for evacuation of the products from the upcoming Paradip refinery to storage depots in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana,” the company said in a regulatory filing.

Reserve Bank keeps key interest rates unchanged

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Tuesday decided to keep key interest rates unchanged in its sixth bi-monthly policy review.

The apex bank kept the repo rate, or the interest that banks pay when they borrow money from the RBI to meet their short-term fund requirements, unchanged at 7.75 percent.

The reverse repo rate, or the interest that the RBI pays to commercial banks when they park their surplus short-term funds with the central bank, has been adjusted to 6.75 percent.

On Jan 15, the apex bank had cut the the repo rate by 25 basis point from 8 percent to 7.75 percent.

AAP to approach SC over funding for political parties

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Tuesday said it will approach the Supreme Court to request a probe into the funding of all political parties.

“Five AAP leaders will go to the SC today (Tuesday) to submit an application for an SIT (Special Investigation Team) probe into funding of the BJP, Congress and AAP,” AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal said in a tweet.

AAP leader Ashutosh in a tweet said that he along with four other leaders will go to the apex court to hand over a letter, requesting to create an SIT to investigate the funding of the BJP, the Congress and the AAP.

`Indo-US ties back on rails as Modi, Obama take ownership’

Cut salaries of staff responsible for flight delays: Government tells Air India

With employees found responsible for up to 15 per cent of Air India’s flight delays, the airline has been directed by the government to penalise them by cutting salaries in a bid to fix accountability.
The state-owned airline, meanwhile, said that it is likely to implement “restructured” pay scales for its staff from next month with a majority of its employees’ unions having come on board on the proposal. It has around 20,000 employees.

Two policemen killed, six injured in Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh

Two policemen were killed and six other security personnel injured when heavily-armed Maoists opened fire on them in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh.

The local police, along with the Border Security Force (BSF) were conducting a combing operation in Pakhanjur area of Kanker district following a tip off when Maoists in large numbers attacked the security personnel.

“In the gun battle, a security personnel got killed and several others have sustained injury. We are taking out injured from the battle site,” said Additional Director General of Police R.K. Vij.

Two-year-old Gleb Kudriavtceva from Russia got a new lease of life in December last year after doctors in Chennai successfully conducted a heart transplant on him.

Baby Gleb was diagnosed with restrictive cardiomyopathy a few months after his birth. His mother, Nelli Kudriavtceva, met doctors in Moscow and even travelled to Germany before coming to India for treatment on December 18, 2014.

Police search for missing Indian man on Australian island

Police were searching a beach on Phillip Island, 140 km south-southeast of Melbourne, for clues to the suspicious disappearance of an Indian delivery van driver who went missing last year, media reported Tuesday.

Shiva Chauhan, 27, went missing after carrying out his regular deliveries May 1 last year with his locked van found next day in Keysborough, a suburb of Melbourne, The Melbourne Age reported.

He was last seen at a bakery in Dandenong South about 12.30 a.m. the following day.

Kiran Bedi’s office vandalised, 3 BJP workers injured

A group of around 150 lawyers Monday vandalised the office of BJP’s chief ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi in her Delhi assembly constituency of Krishna Nagar, in which three party workers were injured, police said.

According to police, the incident took place around 4.30 p.m., when the lawyers – protesting the announcement of Bedi as the Bharatiya Janata Party’s chief ministerial candidate for Delhi – marched towards her office raising slogans against her and the party.

You can now book a rail ticket online and get it delivered at home where the payment can be made.

Initiating this “cash on delivery” (CoD) system rail ticketing, IRCTC is targeting those customers who are reluctant to use their credit or debit cards as well as those who don’t have net-banking facility.

“One has to just book the ticket online and payments will be made at the time of delivery of tickets,” said a senior IRCTC official involved with the project.

This scheme has been launched on pilot basis and the service will be available in more than 200 cities initially.
