BJP regrets reference to immigrants, brings edited version

The BJP Wednesday again regretted using the word “immigrant” for people from the northeast, calling it an “inadvertent mistake”.

“Due to an inadvertent mistake the word immigrant was used in the Vision Document. The party regrets this,” Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said here Wednesday.

“The word immigrant was used in the heading, but the paragraph ahead used the word migrant,” he said.

India-Saudi Arabia signs annual Haj agreement

A delegation led by Union Minister of State for External Affairs General (retired) VK Singh on Tuesday visited Saudi Arabia for signing of Annual Haj Agreement for Haj 2015.

During his visit, The Minister met H.E Dr. Bandar Ibn Muhammad Hajjar, Saudi Minister of Haj in Jeddah and discussed issues pertaining to arrangements for Haj 2015. Following the discussion the Haj agreement between India and Saudi Arabia was signed.

An Indian-owned jewellery chain has partnered with a local bank in the UAE to launch a co-branded credit card, becoming the first organisation to offer ‘Goldback’ in the country.

The Rakbank Kalyan Jewellers MasterCard Credit Card, is accepted globally for purchases and cash withdrawals.

The loyalty points are earned at a rate of up to 7 per cent and can be redeemed at any Kalyan Jewellers outlets in the UAE in the form of jewellery.

The card also offers a zero per cent easy payment plan on diamond and gold jewellery purchases.

IIIT Basara student hang herself, blamed lecturer

Bagli Swapna (18),a 2nd year student at IIIT Basara, Adilabad, committed suicide by hanging herself at Usirakapally village of Manur mandal in Medak on Tuesday. Police found a suicide letter from her room, in which she alleged that mental harassment by her lecturer, Vijayabhanu, had forced her to take the extreme step.

“I challenge our Finance Minister, if I have indulged in money laundering he should take action against me and arrest me right now. And I want to tell Kiran Bedi, look into my eyes and tell me I have done something wrong,” said Kejriwal.

Jordan to revenge pilot’s killing by hanging IS militant Rishawi

Seeking quick revenge for the killing of a Jordanian hostage by the Islamic State (IS), Amman is set to execute an IS militant on death row over a failed bombing.

A security official said that the death sentence pending on Iraqi militant Sajida al-Rishawi will be carried out at dawn, reported News 24.

Rishawi, was sentenced to death for her role in a terror attack in Amman in 2005. The IS had offered to spare the life of Jordanian fighter pilot, Lieutenant Maaz al-Kassasbeh , if she was freed.

A district magistrate-cum-collector level joint border conference between India and Bangladesh was held here on Tuesday

India was represented at the talks by officials of the Tripura Government, while Bangladesh was represented by a team of deputy commissioners-cum-magistrates, and was held at the state guest house here.

The two-day conference discussed issues such as ways to tackle smuggling, trans-border crime, insurgent movements, narcotics, human trafficking and improving border management between the two countries.

Police rescue kidnapped boy

Punjab police rescued a 13-year-old kidnapped boy from Begumpet area. According to sources Anup was kidnapped from Jalandhar and was shifted to Hyderabad. He was kept at an unknown place at Begumpet. With the help of Hyderabad police, Punjab police succeeded in releasing the boy. The kidnapper has been arrested.

Dead body fished out from bowli
(Siasat News): Shamirpet police has fished out a dead body from a bowli. Later, it was identified that of one Sudhakar who hailed from Nizamabad. The bowli is situated in the farm owned by one Balwant Reddy.

Police suspect that the deceased might have accidentally fallen in it. A case has been registered and further investigations are on.

UK becomes first country to allow ‘three-parent’ babies

Britain on Tuesday created history by becoming the first country to legalise children conceived with DNA from three parents after lawmakers voted in favour of the controversial procedure that sparked a fierce ethical debate with senior Church figures.

In the House of Commons, 382 MPs were in favour and 128 against the technique that stops genetic diseases being passed from mother to child.

During the historic debate, ministers said the technique was “light at the end of a dark tunnel” for families. Proponents said the backing was “good news for progressive medicine”.

Music composer Ismail Darbar’s son arrested for assault

The son of music composer Ismail Darbar and his two friends were today arrested for allegedly assaulting an assistant director over a monetary dispute, police said. Darbar (50), too, has been named as a wanted man in the case. The Bollywood composer’s son Zaid (21), his friends – Nishant Singh (21) and Mohsin Khan (29) – were arrested after a complaint was filed at Amboli Police Station by Prashant Choudhary, an assistant director, early this morning.

48 Cr. released for Pre-Matric Scholarships

Minority Welfare Department has released Rs/- 48,02,96,000 for Pre Matric Scholarship of minority students. Special Secretary Minority Welfare Syed Omer Jaleel issued orders to release of budget. The GO stated that the budget would be released under planned expenditure of the financial year 2014-15 to be spent towards pre matric scholarship of minority students. With this the government has made lump sum payment of the budget allocated for pre matric scholarship during the current year. Director Minority Welfare has been directed to take necessary measures to release pre matric scholarship.

Vitamin A may protect kids from malaria

Vitamin A may protect children against the mosquito-borne malaria parasite, a study said.

Children under the age of five living in sub-Saharan Africa were 54 percent less likely to develop malaria if they had been given a single large dose of vitamin A, the findings showed.

“Our research found that children who received vitamin A supplementation were less likely to become infected with malaria,” said study leader Maria-Graciela Hollm-Delgado, postdoctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Ryan Reynolds has denied reports that he and wife Blake Lively have named their newborn daughter Violet.

There were reports that the Hollywood pair chose to name her Violet, according to E!Online.

“No that’s not the name. I don’t want to get into that but I don’t know where that came from,” he said.

The couple welcomed their first child together in early January and are yet to reveal their daughter’s moniker.

Taiwan plane plunges into river, two killed

At least two people were killed Wednesday when a Taiwanese TransAsia Airways plane with over 50 people on board clipped a bridge and crashed into a river near Taipei, BBC reported.

Several people were reportedly injured following the domestic flight’s crash. Taiwan’s Central News Agency broadcast footage of the plane almost submerged in the Keelung river.

Contact with the ATR-72 flight, from Taipei to Kinmen, was lost at about 11 a.m. The plane was found in the river.

North Korea strikes down US talks, vows ‘final doom’

North Korea today appeared to rule out any resumption of dialogue with the United States, threatening to react to any US “war of aggression” with nuclear strikes and cyber warfare.

The statement from the country’s top military body, the National Defence Commission (NDC), came after reported moves by Washington and Pyongyang to revive long-stalled six-nation talks on denuclearisation.

The NDC said recent comments from President Barack Obama had revealed that the United States’ goal was to “bring down” North Korea.
