No incursions, only transgressions by China: Parrikar

There have been no “incursions” by China into Indian territory, the government said Friday, adding that there were some transgression due to different border perceptions.

“There is no commonly delineated LAC (Line of Actual Control) between India and China. There are areas along the border where India and China have differing perception of LAC,” Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said in a written reply in Lok Sabha.

Cameron defends security services over ‘Jihadi John’

British Prime Minister David Cameron has defended the country’s security services amid criticism they failed to stop Mohammed Emwazi, known as “Jihadi John”, from joining Islamic State (IS) in Syria.

Cameron Friday said the security services made “incredibly difficult judgments” on Britain’s behalf, BBC reported.

His comments came after it emerged Emwazi was known to authorities.

The prime minister said he would not comment on specific cases but urged the public to back the security services.

Scientists find 10,000-year-old woolly rhino carcass in Siberia

The frozen remains of a baby woolly rhinoceros over 10,000 years old, with its fur, eyes and horns still intact have been discovered on one of the coldest parts of northern Russia, a media report said Friday.

The remains of the 18-month-old woolly rhinoceros christened “Sasha” was the first of their kind to be ever discovered, The Independent reported.

The remains were so well preserved in Siberia’s permafrost that most of the rhinoceros’s fur, an ear, an eye and a set of small horns were found intact, the report said.

A former chief of Israel’s Mossad spy agency is slamming the prime minister’s handling of the Iranian nuclear threat.

Ahead of Benjamin Netanyahu’s contentious speech to Congress, Meir Dagan says “the person who has caused the greatest strategic damage to Israel on the Iranian issue is the prime minister.”

The comments were published today in the Yediot Ahronot daily.

Dagan has been a fierce critic of Netanyahu’s approach to Iran, emerging as a key opponent of a potential Israeli military attack against its nuclear facilities.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today described the Budget presented in the state Assembly by Finance Minister Amit Mitra as “a budget for maa-mati-manush (mother, soil, masses)”.

Youth arrested for rape charges

A youth was arrested for allegedly raping a girl on the pretext of marriage, police said today.

Police yesterday arrested Pradeep, a resident of Bhatsana village near Dharuhera, who allegedly promised to marry a girl (22) of Chillarh village, about 15 km from here and then brought her from Chillarh to Dharuhera where he allegedly raped her on February 13, an official said.

Later when Pradeep declined to marry her, she made a complaint yesterday following which police registered a case of rape, abduction and criminal intimidation against Pradeep, he said.

Swine flu death toll touches 56

The health authorities on Friday informed that the death toll due to Swine flu this year in Telangana State has touched 56.

According to the Swine Flu Bulletin, this year, from 1st January till 23th February, of 4,483 samples tested, as many as 1,412 were found to be positive and number of deaths because of other complications and Swine flu as on date are 56. On 26th February, of 102 samples tested, 27 were found positive. “The number of positive cases reported in the last six days (up to 26th February) are 47, 56, 09, 27, 33 and 27,” the bulletin said. Implement AP Reorg Act, speed up development of state: Congress

A Congress member on Friday urged the government to implement the provisions of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act and sought special category status to the state to speed up its development.

Raising the issue in Rajya Sabha during Zero Hour, Jesudas Seelam (Cong) said the announcements for development of the state were not being implemented despite assurances by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu.

Delhi Police registers FIR against Owaisi for hate speech

Delhi Police has registered an FIR against All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimin (AIMIM) leader and MP Asaduddin Owaisi for waging war and promoting enmity among religious groups among other sections in connection with an alleged hate speech he had delivered last year.

The FIR was registered yesterday at the Farsh Bazar Police Station in East Delhi after a local court here had
directed the Delhi Police on February 18 to lodge a criminal case against Owaisi under relevant provisions of the IPC on a
private complaint.

Gold worth Rs 30 lakh seized from private aircraft

Nearly one kg of gold worth Rs 30 lakh was seized from a private aircraft here today.

According to airport officials, the cleaning staff stumbled upon 950 grams of gold kept concealed in the seat of the Indigo flight that arrived from Dubai here this morning.

A passenger was suspected to have left the gold, officials said, adding, a probe is on into the matter.

This is the second incident of seizure of gold from passenger aircraft at the airport here since yesterday.

US flies advanced spy plane over disputed sea: officials

The United States has flown its most advanced surveillance plane from a military base in the Philippines over flashpoint areas of the South China Sea, Filipino authorities said today.

With Filipino soldiers on board, the US Navy flew the P-8A Poseidon from a former American airbase about 80 kilometres north of Manila and over the disputed sea on February 17, they said.

The Philippines is in the midst of a bitter row with China over competing claims to parts of the South China Sea that are close to the Philippine coastline.

Metro Rail works to hit train services in in twin cities

In order to facilitate Metro Rail crossing works over the SCR Rail track network between Bharat Nagar and Sanathnagar Stations in twin cities, the South Central Railway has imposed a traffic block on train movements in this section from 12:15 pm to 03:15 pm on Saturday.

It would lead to cancellation of 18 MMTS services which run to and from Lingampally and also Lingampalli – Falaknuma and Hyderabad-Lingampalli MMTS trains. Four passenger trains – Vikarabad – Kacheguda; Tandur – Hyderabad; Hyderabad – Tandur and Secunderabad – Vikarabad have been cancelled.
