Roseanne Barr says Bill Cosby’s sex abuse scandal ‘surprises nobody’

Roseanne Barr has revealed that she was not surprised by the dozens of women who came forward with allegations of sexual misconduct against her comic peer Bill Cosby.

The 62-year-old fellow comedian, who, like Cosby, became a TV superstar in the 1980s, said in an interview that they have all heard it for a long time and it surprises nobody, Us Magazine reported.

Coach Mauresmo backs ‘focused, intense’ Murray ahead of Oz Open final

Andy Murray’s coach Amelie Mauresmo believes that the Britain number one has shown remarkable progress this year, describing him as more focused and intense ahead of the Australian Open final in Melbourne.

Murray, who is eyeing his third major, reached his fourth Australian Open final following a dramatic four-set semifinal win over Czech opponent Tomas Berdych.

The former world number, who became his coach last June, said that Murray was in a better place now and he was happy and relaxed in his own way, the Mirror reported.

Sumitra Mahajan to inaugurate four-day Speakers’ meet in Lucknow

The 77th annual convention of presiding officers of legislative bodies will be inaugurated by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan here on Saturday.
The conference would see the participation of Speakers and Deputy Speakers from 30 states as well as Chairmen and Vice-Chairmen of six Legislative Councils.

State assembly Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey will deliver the welcome address at the convention, which is being hosted by the state after 30 years.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav is also scheduled to address the convention. (ANI)

Krishna Chaudhary appointed new ITBP chief

Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Krishna Chaudhary will take over as the new Director General (DG) of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
Chaudhary, who is currently the Director General of the Railway Protection Force, is a 1979-batch Bihar cadre officer. He has been appointed for two years.

He succeeds Subhas Goswami who retired on December 31, 2014.

Delhi polls: BJP mocks AAP’s manifesto

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders on Saturday rebuffed the Aam Aadmi Party’s 70-point manifesto, saying it was a stamp on the fact that the latter is not coming to power.

“This AAP manifesto is a stamp on the fact that these people are not coming to power,” said party leader Prabhat Jha.

Another BJP leader Manoj Tiwari termed the rival party’s manifesto ‘a comedy circus’, while party spokesperson M J Akbar said a true manifesto also explains how promises will be implemented.

US regulator imposes conditions on Sun’s Ranbaxy acquisition

An American federal trade regulator has imposed conditions on Sun Pharmaceuticals’ acquisition of Ranbaxy on the grounds that the USD 4 billion proposed deal would likely be anti-competitive.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) yesterday said pharmaceutical companies Sun Pharmaceutical Industries and Ranbaxy Laboratories have agreed to divest the latter’s interests in generic minocycline tablets in order to settle charges that Sun’s proposed acquisition of Ranbaxy would likely be anti-competitive.

Two die in train accidents
(Siasat News): A man near Hafizpet railway station and a girl between Bharat Nagar and Broadband railway station hit by trains that proved fatal for them.

Railway police said that both the deceased are yet to be identified. Police sources further said that the man, 25, had committed suicide by jumping before the train whereas the girl was trying to cross the tracks and was fatally hit by a speeding train.

Further investigations are on.

Porn addicts at unsafe sexual behaviour risk

In a study involving college students, Australian researchers have linked porn addiction with increased sexual risk such as unsafe practices and more sexual partners.

In an article titled “Association Between Pornography Use and Sexual Risk Behaviors in Adult Consumers: A Systematic Review,” the team from University of Sydney and Curtin University discussed the potential value of including “porn literacy” information in sexual health education and prevention strategies.

Scholars at the University of Sheffield have warned of the increasing risk to marine life of extinction.

Overfishing, pollution, climate change and destruction of habitats like coral reefs are all putting marine life in trouble and academics fear the risk is not being taken as seriously as concerns for the loss of animals and plants which live on land.

Life sentence for man in murder case

A man was sentenced to life imprisonment by a local court for murdering a man over a land dispute in 2012.

District Judge Karna Singh also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict Ramphal.

Ramphal had murdered Ram Saran over a land dispute in Balarpur village.

With eight total nominations, including one for top prize Entertainer of the Year, Miranda Lambert leads all nominees at this year’s 50th annual Academy of Country Music Awards.

The nominations where announced Friday morning via Twitter, reported Rolling Stone magazine.

Dierks Bentley, whose album Riser was both a commercial and critical success, follows his former touring partner Lambert with seven nominations, including Album of the Year and Male Vocalist.

Structure of anxiety disorder protein revealed

New research has revealed the crystal structure of a key protein, TSPO, which is associated with several forms of anxiety disorders.

By identifying the structure at the atomic level, scientists can now pinpoint where drugs may interact with the protein.

“Many other scientists have studied this protein, but what exactly it is doing has been very difficult to determine,” said Shelagh Ferguson-Miller, professor of biochemistry and molecular biology at the Michigan State University in the US.

Pak mourns victims of deadly suicide bombing in Shia mosque

Pakistan today mourned the victims of the deadly suicide bombing in a Shia mosque in southern Sindh province that killed 61 people with many of the injured still in critical condition, officials said.

The blast ripped through the Shia mosque in Lakhi Dar area of Shikarpur district when about 400 worshippers lined up to offer weekly Friday prayers.

Provincial health minister Jam Mehtab said that 61 people were killed and over 50 injured in the attack.

SSP Saqib Memon said that a severed head and other body parts of an unidentified bomber were sent for DNA testing.

West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo quits Test cricket

Just weeks after being dropped from the West Indies’ World Cup squad, a ‘disillusioned’ Dwayne Bravo has announced his retirement from Test cricket.

The all-rounder, who has not played Tests since December 2010, was axed from the West Indies one-day side for the tour of South Africa and the World Cup but the 31-year-old player still wants to continue playing the limited-overs game.

Dwayne, who had recently signed a year-long retainer contract with the WICB and was part of the West Indies’ T20 side against South Africa, is proud be represent the national side.
