Panchmahal district police have arrested a police sub-inspector on the charge of dereliction of duty for allegedly altering an FIR filed by a tribal woman on a complaint of rape.

Superintendent of Police Raghavendra Vatsa said that PSI AU Gadhvi was yesterday arrested from his relative’s house here. He had been absconding ever since Panchmahal police lodged an FIR against him three months back, the SP said.

Colombia police capture crime boss over Asprilla threats

Colombian police have said they have captured a notorious local crime boss accused of threatening former international striker Faustino “Tino” Asprilla.

Andres Felipe Marin, alias “Pipe,” allegedly demanded payment from Asprilla and his family last month, saying they would be harmed if they did not cough up the cash.

Asprilla, a striker who played in the 1994 and 1998 World Cups, said he had been forced out of his home town of Tulua, in western Colombia, in fear of his life.

Spain: 10 dead, 21 hurt in crash of Greek F-16 jet at base

A Greek F-16 fighter jet crashed into other aircraft on the ground during NATO training in southeastern Spain, killing at least 10 French and Greek military personnel, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said.

Another 21 people were injured in the incident yesterday at the Los Llanos base, which sent flames and a plume of black smoke billowing into the air, the Spanish Defence Ministry said in a statement.

Rajoy told Spain’s Telecinco news program in an interview last night that 11 of the injured were Italian and 10 were French.

Amnesty International warned today of the “seriously” deteriorating health condition of a detained Omani human rights defender on hunger strike since his January 21 arrest in the city of Salalah.

Saeed Jaddad, who led Arab Spring-inspired protests in the sultanate in 2011, was hospitalised on January 23, two days after he started a hunger strike following his arrest.

He was returned to police custody today, and authorities had “ignored” medical advice and were preparing to send him by plane to the capital Muscat for trial, said Amnesty.
