BM Birla Science Centre throws open its library for public on membership basis

Birla Centre has open its Library for Public owing to its rarity books which are no longer available in the market.

The library, titled GP Birla Library, Built on the historic Naubat Pahad next to the BM Birla Science Centre, boasts of as many as 10,000 books ranging from art, archaeology, architecture to lesser known concepts such as iconography, numismatics, museology etc.

“The uniqueness of the library is that it will catch the eyes of the readers from students to research scholars and retired scholars,’’ BG Sidharth, director, BM Birla Science Centre, Hyderabad, said

Congress dubs AAP manifesto ‘illogical’

The Congress on Saturday termed the manifesto of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as illogical and maintained that it did not possess the experience to run a government.

Congress leader Anand Sharma said no government can fulfil the promises made by the AAP in their 70-point manifesto.

“They know that they will not get a chance to run the government. Only those who do not have experience of running a government make such claims. No government can give these things for free, whether it is the Centre or the state government,” he said.

Asaram witness killing: Deceased’s father demands CBI inquiry

The father of the slain witness in the sexual assault case against self-styled godman Asaram has demanded a CBI inquiry into his son’s murder.

Naresh Gupta has sought an inquiry into the murder of his son Akhil alleging that it was not the result of any local enmity and was directly linked with Asaram’s bail rejection by the High Court earlier this month.

He further alleged that Asaram’s daughter Bharti may be behind the murder as she is out of jail.

Gupta also sought increased protection for his family because his son’s wife is also a witness in the case.

Google to change privacy policy in UK following pressure from data protection authority

Google has agreed to change the privacy policy in the UK to improve the information it provides to people on how it collects personal data followed by pressure from the country’s data protection authority.

According to PCWorld, Google has signed an agreement that says that the company is committed to making further changes to the privacy policy to meet the requirements on UK’s Data Protection Act, said the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

Google will also ensure that future changes to the privacy policy comply with the law.

Kanye West may not allow daughter North West to go to public school

It seems like that Kanye West has provided a hint that baby North West might be homeschooled in future in his latest rap called ‘Blessing.’

On Big Sean’s latest track, which also features a cameo by Drake, West raps; “Just did a couple laps in my home pool/And my daughter over there getting homeschooled /I’m blessed,” E! Online reported.

James Franco to direct star-packed Steinbeck’s ‘In Dubious Battle’

James Franco will helm John Steinbeck’s ‘In Dubious Battle’ with strong cast including Bryan Cranston, Selena Gomez, Vincent D’Onofrio, Robert Duvall, Ed Harris, Danny McBride and Franco himself.

The film is based on Steinbeck’s gritty, realist style novel In Dubious Battle, which portrays the struggle between labor and capital in 1930s America as close to all-out warfare, Deadline.com reported.

Writer Matt Rager adapted the feature screenplay based on the novel. Principal photography on the film will commence in March.

Val Kilmer undergoes emergency surgery for throat tumor

Val Kilmer was recently rushed to hospital and underwent an emergency surgery for throat tumor, it has been reported.

The ‘Top Gun’ star was taken to UCLA Medical Center , Santa Monica, where doctors performed a surgery and he’s currently recovering, TMZ.com reported.

Dalai Lama, Obama to attend religious meet

Globe-trotting monk the Dalai Lama and US President Barack Obama will be together at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington next week, the second time in less than a year, his aides said here Saturday.

“His Holiness is on a religious tour to the US and will attend the National Prayer Breakfast Feb 5 where the US President will also participate,” a senior functionary in the Dalai Lama’s office said.

He said so far there is no scheduled meeting between the spiritual leader and the US president. However, the US has already played down an official engagement between the two.

BJP to move EC against Vishwas’s ‘sexist remark’ on Bedi

Upping the ante against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ahead of the assembly polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to file a complaint with the Election Commission against party leader Kumar Vishwas for his sexist remark against its chief ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi.

Earlier in the day, a police complaint had been filed against Vishwas for allegedly making sexist comments against Bedi at a recent rally held in the national capital.

UN chief asks Pakistan to step up efforts to combat terror

Condemning the deadly bombing of a Shia mosque in Pakistan, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called on the country to step up efforts to protect religious minorities and combat terrorism.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Ban said he is appalled by such vicious targeting of people on account of their religious affiliation.

He condemned the bombing of the Shia mosque in Pakistan s Sindh province on Friday, which killed at least 61 people gathered for prayer.

Saudi Arabia repostpones flogging of blogger Raif Badawi

Saudi Arabia has once again postponed the second round of flogging of blogger Raif Badawi.

According to the BBC, no reason has been given, but last week Badawi was reported to be physically unfit to face the penalty after receiving the first flogging.

Earlier, authorities in Saudi Arabia decided to not flog blogger Raif Badawi for the second week running after doctors advised against this week’s 50 lashes on health grounds, human rights group Amnesty International said.
