Wipro to Co-Develop Software for Smart Devices

Indian IT bellwether Wipro Ltd will jointly develop software for smart and connected devices with German firm Software AG.

“The software solution will enable enterprises to understand how customers use their products in real-time and through streaming analytics,” the company said in a statement here Tuesday.

The joint platform will also provide real-time actionable intelligence for the Internet of Things (IoT) market.

Airasia Flight QZ8501: Indonesia Military Ends Hunt

The Indonesian military said that it was stopping its efforts to recover the remains of AirAsia Flight QZ8501 almost a month after the commercial jet crashed into the sea.

Indonesia’s search and rescue agency, Basarnas, will continue its work to try to retrieve bodies from the wreckage site in the Java Sea, a civilian source close to the search and rescue operations told CNN.

The military provided the majority of personnel and hardware involved in the recovery operation, which was hindered by bad weather and technical problems.

Indian-Origin Physician Pleads Guilty to Healthcare Fraud

A 44-year-old Indian-origin physician here has pleaded guilty to a USD 83,000 health care fraud and faces up to 10 years in prison and about USD 350,000 fine.

Mahesh Kuthuru pleaded guilty to defrauding federal insurance programme Medicare from 2010 till 2011 during his practice at a city clinic.

He admitted that he submitted bills to Medicare which falsely reflected that he had personally provided or directly supervised other licensed medical personnel providing treatment or services to patients.

7-yr-old boy run over by truck

A seven-year-old boy was crushed to death while his mother was injured after they were hit by a truck today in the Anand Vihar area of east Delhi.

According to police, in the incident which took place at around 12.30 P.M., the victim, identified as Himanshu, was mowed down by the truck on Vikas Marg while his mother sustained injuries. The boy was on his way home from school accompanied by his mother when the mishap occurred.

Charred remains of domestic help found, employers arrested

The body of a domestic help was recovered today from the house of her employers at the Tantigeria area of Midnapore town, the police said.

The body was Padma Murmu (20), a resident of Moupal area of Salboni, who worked as a domestic help in the house of one Saroj Khan of Tantigeria area, was found on the terrace of her employers’ house, the police said adding, the body had severe burn injury marks.

94 IPS officials transferred in Uttar Pradesh

In a late Tuesday reshuffle, the Uttar Pradesh government effected a major reshuffle and transferred 94 IPS officials, a state spokesperson said.

The transfers include many additional director general (ADG) rank officials, inspector generals of police (IG), deputy inspector generals (DIG), senior superintendent of police (SSP) and superintendent of police (SP`s).

According to reports, the Prime Minister has shared his desire for the same.

PM Modi to attend culmination parade of NCC Republic Day Camp

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday is scheduled to attend the culmination parade of this year’s National Cadet Corps (NCC) Republic Day camp.

Cadets from all three wings of the armed forces, namely the Army, the Navy and the Air Force, will present the Guard of Honour to the Prime Minister, followed by a march past by contingents from different states. Prime Minister Modi will also address the cadets.

Popularly known as the ‘Prime Minister’s rally’, the parade marks the culmination of the month-long camp, which is held every year from January 1- 30. (ANI)

Five held with outdated Brazilian currency

Five persons from Tamil Nadu were today arrested for attempting to sell outdated Brazilian currency (cruzado), police said.

Acting on a tip-off, sleuths of Commissioner’s Task Force (Central Zone) apprehended the five while they were trying to sell the outdated Brazilian notes in Nampally area here. They seized 2,90,500 cruzados in 500 Denomination, Task Force Deputy Commissioner of Police B Limba Reddy said.

Charlie Hebdo protesters in Pakistan storm Christian school

Hundreds of Pakistani students protesting against a French satirical magazine for publishing a controversial caricature stormed a Christian school in the country’s northwest and demanded its closure, officials said today.

Four students were injured when the protesters stormed Panel High School for boys in northwestern Bannu city in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province yesterday.

A local Christian man told PTI on condition of anonymity that about 300 protesters, some of them carrying guns, entered the school and opened its gates.

Maha mulls use of treated water in power plants

In an attempt to restart the Parli thermal power plant which was shut down due to a severe water crisis in Marathwada region, Maharashtra government is planning to use treated sewage water instead of the regular clean water.

“The 210-MW Parli power plant in Beed district is lying closed for the last one and a half years due to severe water scarcity. There are six other plants whose future remains uncertain. To prevent them from shutting down, we will be using treated waste water to produce electricity,” energy minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said here today.

Tamil daily Dinamalar warned of ‘Charlie Hebdo style’ attack

Dinamalar, a Tamil newspaper, has reportedly received threat of an attack similar to the one by Islamist State militants on French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

“We have received the letter from the newspaper and a probe is on,” a senior police official said.

The letter, typed in English, says “Yesterday-Paris Charlie Hebdo, Tomorrow – Dinamalar.” The words appear against the background of India’s map.

The letter was sent by post by unidentified elements claiming to belong to an outfit called “The Base Moment,” and said to be based at “3/10, Ukkadam, Kovai, Tamil Nadu, India.”

Salman Khan hit-and-run case: ‘Medical officer did not follow due procedure’

The defence lawyer in the 2002 hit- and-run case allegedly involving Bollywood star Salman Khan Tuesday argued that the chief medical officer of the government hospital did not follow the due procedure while collecting a blood sample of the actor after the incident.

Nine killed as gunmen storm luxury hotel in Libyan capital

Heavily armed gunmen stormed a luxury hotel in Tripoli favoured by Libyan officials and visiting delegations on Tuesday, killing at least nine people, including foreigners, before blowing themselves up with a grenade.

Officials said shooting erupted inside the five-star Corinthia Hotel and security forces evacuated guests, including Tripoli’s prime minister and an American delegation, after at least two gunmen blasted through the building’s reception.

Moscow blasts US spy arrest as part of ‘anti-Russian campaign’

Moscow today blasted the United States over the arrest of an alleged Russian spy, condemning the move as a “provocation” that would further damage already tattered ties.

“The US has decided to launch the latest stage of its anti-Russian campaign,” the foreign ministry said in a statement, accusing Washington of “stoking spy mania”.

“We demand an end to this series of provocations by the US security services against representatives of Russia,” said the statement from ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich.
