An 11-year-old girl here today died, two days after she is said to have set herself on fire after allegedly being thrashed and threatened by a policeman.

Assistant sub-inspector Prakash Jaroliya had allegedly beaten up Yasmeen (11) for riding his bicycle without
permission.

The doctors at Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital tried hard to save Yasmeen, who had 100 per cent burn injuries, but could
not,” superintendent of police R C Rajput said.

CEC has assured that faulty EVMs will be replaced, says Kejriwal

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday met Chief Election Commissioner H.S. Brahma to express concern over the discrepancy in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and to know what procedure must be followed in such a scenario.

“People have a huge doubt regarding EVMs, that’s what we came to talk to the EC about. EC has found a great solution to it,” Kejriwal said.

Kejriwal further said that the Election Commission has assured that the EVM will be replaced in case it is found faulty.

MiG-21 crashes in Gujarat, pilot safe

A MiG-21 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed here on Saturday.

According to reports, the pilot bailed out of the aircraft before it crashed and is safe.

Even on Tuesday, a MiG 27 fighter of the Indian Air Force had crashed in Barmer region of Rajasthan. The IAF had ordered a Court of Inquiry to investigate the crash.

Maoists blow up mobile tower in Bihar

Maoists blew up a mobile tower in Bihar`s Lakhisarai district and took a cabin man of a railway station hostage for four hours in Jamui district, affecting the movement of trains, police said on Saturday.

The cabin man was taken hostage to enforce a 24-hour strike called by the Maoists to protest against the security forces` operations against them, police said.

According to a police officer in Lakhisarai, about 150 km from here, armed Maoists blew up a mobile tower in Mananpur village under Chanan police station early Saturday. No casualty was reported.

Three-year-old found hanging on tree, rape suspected

A three-year-old girl was allegedly raped and found unconscious in naked condition hanging upside down from a tree at Banka in this district of Bihar on Saturday.

Over 5000 liquor bottles seized ahead of Delhi polls

Election Commission officials seized 5,964 bottles of illicit liquor from a godown allegedly owned by AAP’s Uttam Nagar candidate Naresh Balyan on Friday night.

“A total of 5964 bottles (4473 litres) of Haryana-made liquor was seized from a godown by flying squad and police in a late night joint-operation,” said a senior EC official.

Indian-origin man jailed for computer hacking in Singapore

A 36-year-old Indian-origin man has been jailed for four years and eight months on charges of hacking computers of at least seven organisations including the ruling party in 2013.

James Raj Arokiasamy, who calls himself “The Messiah”, had pleaded guilty to the charges last week, The Straits Times reported today.
