Girl allegedly killed by her father over love affair

In a case of honour killing, a 19-year-old girl was allegedly killed by her father and other family members on New Year’s Eve following a heated argument,who were opposed to her relationship with a boy belonging to a different community in Baroda village of the district.

The teenager was later buried by the family members.Police recovered the body on Thursday and registered a case of murder against the four family members including her father Hasan, said the police.

While two of the accused identified as Hasan and Sattar have been arrested, two others were absconding.

Crude bomb blast in West Bengal’s Burdwan, two injured

At least two people have sustained injuries in a crude bomb blast in the Burdwan district of West Bengal on Friday.

As per reports, the explosion took place when some individuals were trying to assemble crude bombs. Those injured in the blast have been shifted to a local hospital for treatment.

The BJP has alleged that the local TMC workers were making the bomb when the incident occurred. However, no reaction has come from the ruling TMC in this regard.

The situation can get very tense if political parties keep putting allegations on one and another.

Dhoni missing from Team India tea with Australian PM

The touring Indian cricketers and their home team counterparts were today hosted by Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott for an afternoon tea at his official residence on the New Year’s Day here today.

Players from both sides posed for the official photo session with Abbott at Kirribilli House, his second official residence.

Failed love affair led to suicide
(Siasat News) An 18-year-old girl, who was frustrated over her failed love affair, took the extreme step of ending her life by consuming pesticide. It is said that the deceased Supraja consumed the pesticide at her residence at Kalyanpuri and became unconscious.

She was immediately shifted to the hospital where doctors declared her dead. Police said that the failed love affair led her to take the extreme step. Further investigations are on.

The teenager was later buried by the family members.

Police recovered the body yesterday and registered a case of murder against the four family members including her father Hasan, he said, adding the body has been sent for postmortem.

Hollywood star Liam Neeson considering reverting to Islam

Liam Neeson, the Hollywood star from Northern Ireland, is said to be considering converting to Islam following a working trip to Istanbul, according to The Sun newspaper.

Neeson, who was making a movie in the Turkish city of Istanbul some time back, had become fascinated with Islam during his stay.

Speaking to The Sun, the 59-year-old actor said: “The Call for Prayer (Adhan) happens five times a day and for the first week, it drives you mad, and then it just gets into your spirit, and it’s the most beautiful, beautiful thing”.

Now, cops seen shouting pro-Islamic slogans in mock drill

A day after controversy over anti-terrorism exercise by the Gujarat police featuring men wearing skull caps, a video of a police mock drill showing dummy terrorists shouting a pro-Islamic slogan surfaced Thusrday in the state, suggesting yet again that terrorists are Muslims.

In the latest video, Gujarat police personnel are seen holding two men playing the part of terrorists at the site of the Narmada dam in Kevadia area of Narmada district, local media reported.

Top Israel court nixes appeals against home demolitions

Israel’s supreme court has rejected appeals by the families of four east Jerusalem Palestinians involved in deadly anti-Israeli attacks whose homes are all facing punitive demolition orders.

In a series of rulings yesterday, Judge Elyakim Rubenstein rejected the appeals by four families.

But in a fifth case, it asked the state to justify its planned demolition over an attack in which the victim was wounded but not killed.

Officials asked not to visit CM’s residence unless called

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das has asked bureaucrats not to visit his residence unless asked to and work on war footing for the states prosperity, instead.

An official release quoting Das’s commitment and resolutions for 2015 on Jharkhand’s development, said that unless there is urgent work or called by the Chief Minister, no official or employee should visit his residence.

He said government officials should work on a war footing, adding that cooperation from all is required.

Chit fund scam: Odisha govt suspends DSP rank officer

The Odisha government today suspended a DSP rank officer for his alleged link with the multi-crore chit fund scam.

Pramod Panda was suspended from government service 13 days after he was arrested by the CBI for his link to the Artha Tatwa Group CMD Pradeep Sethy, an official at the state Home Department said.

The suspension would take effect from December 19, the day when he was arrested by the CBI on charges of larger conspiracy and deriving undue financial benefits from the AT Group, the official said.

BDO from Sindhudurg arrested for taking bribe

The Thane division of anti-corruption bureau today arrested a block development officer in Sindhudurgh district for accepting a bribe to release the money due to a contractor.

Additional BDO Tukaram B Jadhav, the accused, is attached to Vengurla panchayat samiti in Sindhudurg district.

Additional superintendent of police Srinivas Ghadge told PTI that Jadhav was caught while accepting Rs 10,000 from the complainant, who had supplied street-light bracket units to the gram panchayat, at BDO office at Vengurla.

Greece, Italy vary wildly on ferry missing numbers

Greece and Italy are issuing widely different figures for how many passengers and crew are still not accounted for in the ferry fire that killed at least 11 people in the Adriatic Sea.

An Italian prosecutor has said up to 98 are unaccounted for while Greece puts that number at 18 and says Italy’s list is full of duplications and misspellings.

It’s also still not clear how many people were even aboard the Norman Atlantic ferry that caught fire early Sunday as it headed from Greece to Italy.

Italy’s Coast Guard says 477 people were rescued.

Third party motor business now mandatory for general insurers

The insurance ordinance, which was promulgated recently, has made it mandatory for all general insurers except specialised ones to underwrite a certain percentage of insurance business as third party motor premium as required by the IRDA.

The Insurance Regulatory Development Authority (IRDA) is likely to come up with its operational guidelines on the subject shortly.

Civic body employee shot dead in east Delhi

A 45-year-old employee of a city civic body was gunned down here this morning by unidentified assailants in northeast Delhi’s Shahdara, barely a few hundred metres from the office of the area’s DCP.

The incident took place at around 6:30 am when the victim, identified as Ashok Kumar, was riding his motorcycle on his way to work, and was shot in the back.

Actor Upen Patel today got eliminated from the popular reality show ‘Bigg Boss 8′ and became the first contestant to be evicted in the mid-week.

Swine flu scare in India: 88 cases reported in AP, Telangana

The deadly H1N1 influenza virus has returned and appears to have taken epidemic proportion in several parts of the country like Telangana and Andhra Pradesh where two fresh cases were reported on Friday, according to the health department officials.

As per reports, two women, one each from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, were found infected with swine flu disease.

“A woman from Kadapa in AP and another woman from Telangana tested positive for swine flu,” said Dr K Subhakar, the nodal officer for the disease in Hyderabad.
