Special high court bench to hear Jayalalithaa case Jan 5

A special bench of the Karnataka High Court will hear, from Jan 5, the corruption case against former Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa and her three aides on a daily basis.

Though the case came up for hearing Friday before Justice H. Billappa, Jayalalithaa’s counsel sought its postponement to Monday, as Justice C.R. Kumaraswamy, who has been appointed to hear it, is on leave till Saturday.

Siricilla Textile Park to get facelift: Jupalli

Telangana Government today taken a decision to give a fillip to Textiles Park at Siricilla in Karimnagar district. During a review meeting attended by IT Minister KT Rama Rao, Industries, minister J Krishna Rao said that the government will release adequate funds for the textile parks. Soon the government will release 15 per cent of subsidy to Powerloom industry and 20 per cent towards implementation of TUFF scheme. In a similar way the meeting decided to extend 50 per cent of electricity subsidy for five more years, which expired in Dec 31, 2009.

Jayaprada Greets Harish on New Year

Former MP and noted Telugu Actress Jayaprada today greeted Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on the occasion of New Year 2015. Jayaprada called on Harish Rao at Ministers’ Quarters here. It is being touted that the former MP who hails from Rajahmundry (AP) is planning to join TRS fold given a chance as the TD with which she associated earlier is denying her to take in. KCR urged to provide Health Cards to Lawyers

Bhadrachalam Bar Association president P V Krishnamachary urged Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to issue health cards to the lawyers, who played a pivotal role in the struggle for statehood to Telangana.

In a pressnote here, he stated there are some 35,000 lawyers, of whom 85% are poor belonging to SC, ST and other downtrodden sections. He urged the TRS government to provide health cards to all lawyers and their dependents immediately. (NSS)

Kolkata police bust gang behind rape of Japanese tourist

The city police Friday busted an inter-state racket operating in Kolkata and Bihar whose members had allegedly duped and raped a 22-year-old Japanese tourist in November, arresting give people.

“We have arrested three people from Kolkata and two from Gaya in Bihar. This gang used to operate from Kolkata and used to dupe and sometimes physically abuse Japanese tourists,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) P.K. Ghosh.

Policy on Retail Markets soon: KCR

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today said his government will soon introduce a “Retail Market Policy” to promote expansion of markets on the standards of Single Industrial Policy. He said the retail markets should be expanded in such a way people residing at new colonies, apartments and residential complexes get all essential items at one place.

Kothari, Advani top seeds in National billiards, snooker championship

As many as 922 players including title holders Pankaj Advani and Sourav Kothari will be seen in action in the BRC Gloster national billiards and snooker championship beginning here Saturday.

The event, running till Jan 24, will see participation from all the states as also the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) and the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB), West Bengal Billiards Association president Pradip Saraogi told a media meet Friday.

Among others who would vie for honours are Rupesh Shah, Vidya Pillai, Suniti Damani and world championship bronze medal winner Nita Kothari.

T self-help groups get Rs 487 crore

The Telangana Government has sanctioned Rs 487 crore for disbursement of interest-free loans to the self-help groups.
According to informed sources, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has given nod for release of the funds. The Government also issued orders for disbursement of interest-free loans soon after the Chief Minister signed the file. He reportedly directed the officials to immediately release the funds and help the SHGs in the State.

Italy takes over abandoned cargo ship with 450 immigrants

The Italian Coast Guard took control Friday of a cargo ship that was heading to the Italian coast with about 450 illegal immigrants, including 30 women and several children, and no crew on board, media reported.

Italian Coast Guard Commander Filippo Marini told Sky TV that six guards managed to reach the ship by helicopter.

The ship has currently set sail to a yet to be determined Italian port at the speed of three knots as the sea conditions were “not good”, Marini said.

3 boys roasted alive removing kite from live wire

In a tragic incident, three children were roasted alive while they were trying to remove a kite from a live electric wire at Rajagopal Nagar under Pamarru mandal of Krishna district on Thursday afternoon.

The victims were identified as Yesuraju, Janbabu and Suresh aged between 10 to 12 years.

It is learnt the children were flying kites and one of the kites got snapped before falling on the live electric wire. The children were electrocuted when they tried to remove the kite using an iron rod. Three children died on the spot.

Family of three killed in Greece

A family of three, including a 12-year-old boy, was killed Friday in the northern city of Thessaloniki, police said.

The suspect attempted suicide and has been detained, Xinhua reported citing police.

Police said the 60-year-old man, who entered the family’s house armed with a gun and a knife, had an argument over financial transactions with the father, who was also the suspect’s brother-in-law.

Investigators believe that the suspect shot all the victims at close range before jumping off the balcony to commit suicide.

The suspect has been transferred to a local hospital.

TS-Transco gets Rs 300 Cr towards Tariff Subsidy

The Telangana Government on Friday accorded administrative sanction for an amount of Rs 300 crore to Telangana State Transco towards Tariff Subsidy for the month of December 2014.

The sanction was given following a request by the TS-Transco CMD seeking Rs 300 crore towards tariff subsidy for the month of December 2014 provisionally till the Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission finalises the tariff subsidy for the year 2014-15. (INN)

TS Govt sanctions 121 posts for TSPSC

The Telangana Government on Friday created as many as 121 posts in the recently constituted Telangana State Public Service Commission.

The State Government had appointed the TSPSC comprising of Chairman and three members on December 17. While Ganta Chakrapani was appointed as Chairman, C Vittal, Mateenuddin Quadri and Dr Banoth Chandravath were nominated as members. As a follow-up, the State Government accorded sanction for creation of the posts to the Telangana State Public Service Commission.

Zafar Sareshwala appointed MANUU Chancellor

Zafar Sareshwala, well known industrialist, CEO & MD of Parsoli Corporation Ltd. has been appointed as the new Chancellor of city-based Maulana Azad National Urdu University.

According to a communication received from Ministry of Human Resource Development at the Vice Chancellor’s Office, President of India Pranab Mukherjee, in his Capacity as Visitor of the University has appointed Sareshwala for a term of three years.

Zafar Sareshwala is fourth Chancellor of MANUU. He succeeds Dr. Syeda Saiyidain Hameed, former member of Planning Commission. (INN)
