Nissan announces pre-bookings of Datsun GO+ in India

Japanese car maker Nissan today announced the start of pre-bookings of its soon-to-be-launched compact multi purpose vehicle ‘Datsun GO+’ in India.

The Datsun GO+, which was first previewed at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, will be available for pre-booking between January 3-14, Nissan India said in a statement.

“Prospective customers can now pre-book their Datsun GO+ with a fully refundable amount of Rs 11,000 at any Nissan dealership across India,” it added.

The Datsun GO+ is India’s first sub-4 meter compact multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).

Promising exciting days ahead, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today said India would match Chinese growth rate once the unbanked population comes under structured financial system.

The Minister also said that the real challenge today is to bring a further spurt in investment, concentrate on infrastructure and improve manufacturing in a big way.

“I think time has come to enter into the next phase where we give spurt to these goals which are essential for reviving Indian economy,” he said.

In a mid-sea operation that probably averted a 26/11-like terror attack, a suspected Pakistani fishing boat carrying explosives was intercepted by the Coast Guards in the Arabian Sea but the four occupants on board set the vessel afire and exploded it before it sank with them.

CCTV camera installation one of top priorities: Bassi

In a bid to ensure smart policing in the national capital, Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi on Friday said that his force will incorporate all the modern technologies and installing CCTV cameras will be one of its priorities.

Bassi also said Delhi Police is now upgrading its systems at the Central Police Control Room so that all incoming calls received on Telephone No. 100 are simultaneously forwarded to the nearest PCR van and the concerned police station in real time through cyber highway.

Minor girl allegedly gang raped by two policemen in Badaun

Two policemen were suspended for allegedly gang-raping a 14-year-old girl in Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh. According to the reports, the girl’s family had alleged that the two constables saw her when she left her house to use toilet and dragged her to a car and raped her.

The police have started an investigation and are looking for the men, who are missing. Meanwhile, DCW Chairperson Barkha Shukla said that the condition of women is bad in Uttar Pradesh. She appealed the government to look into the matter.

Mufti’s dream of early Indo-Pak dialogue crashing: Omar

Apparently referring to recent skirmish at the border with Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said if PDP chief Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s possible alliance with BJP was based on “dream” of early resumption of Indo-Pak dialogue then it was “crashing”.

“Call me a cynic but I can’t shake the scepticism,” Omar said.

“If Mufti’s BJP alliance hinges on an early resumption of the Indo-Pak dialogue, then the sound you hear are his dreams crashing to the floor,” Omar, who is in London, wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.

‘PK’ becomes Bollywood’s highest grossing film

As protests against the film continued, the producers of Aamir Khan-starrer ‘PK’ today said the film has broken ‘Dhoom 3’ record to become the biggest earner in Bollywood by collecting Rs 278.52 crores since its release on December 19.

The film has faced criticism by right-wing organisations who said the Rajkumar Hirani-directed film disrespects Hindu religion, an allegation rejected by its makers.

Hirani, 52, said the film’s word-of-mouth performance has been overwhelming.

Unemployed youth commits suicide in Langar houz limits

A 23-year-old unemployed youth committed suicide by setting himself ablaze.

According to Langar Houz police, the victim, B Sai Kumar, took the extreme step on December 30 at his residence in Bapu Nagar. He was admitted to the Osmania General Hospital where he died today. Sai Kumar was reportedly upset as he was unable to find a suitable job and the same is suspected to have driven him to suicide. (INN)

Man kills self due to financial problems in Kushaiguda PS limits

A 27-year-old man committed suicide by consuming some unknown poison.

According to Kushaiguda police, the deceased, Parishud, took the extreme step on December 31 and died at the Gandhi Hospital on Friday. He was an employee of a private firm and resident of Nirmala Nagar in Yapral. Financial problems are suspected to be the reason for suicide. (INN)

Mason commits suicide in Secunderabad

The Secunderabad Railway Police found the body of a 40-year-old man on the railway tracks between Lalaguda and Moula Ali Railway Stations.

The deceased was later identified as K Mukesh, a marble mason and resident of Nacharam. He is suspected to have committed suicide by jumping in front a running train on Thursday night. Preliminary enquiries by the police revealed that Mukesh was upset after his wife went away to her parents’ house following an argument with him. (INN)

Heavy firing exchange between India, Pakistan in Kashmir

Indian and Pakistani border guards exchanged heavy fire Friday evening on the international border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district, police said.

“Pakistan Rangers started unprovoked firing at four BSF (Border Security Force) outposts on the international border in Ramgarh sector of Samba district around 9.30 p.m. after which BSF retaliated effectively at all these places,” a senior police official here told IANS.

“Heavy firing exchanges were going on between the two sides when last reports came in,” he added.

Rains lash Delhi, more showers likely tomorrow

Chilly weather conditions prevailed as rains lashed the national capital on Friday bringing down the maximum temperature to settle at 16 degree Celsius, five notches below the season’s average.

According to MeT officials, 5.6 mm rainfall was recorded at Safdarjung observatory between 8.30 AM to 5.30 PM.

Palam recorded 4.7 mm rainfall, Lodhi road centre recorded 5.7 mm while at the Ridge and Ayanagar recorded 7.7 mm and 3.4 mm rains respectively during the same period.

Delhi youth roped in to help police

Youth in the national capital will soon help Delhi Police in improving the interface between patrolling staff and communities, Delhi Police chief B.S. Bassi said Friday.

“We have started a unique active community policing scheme involving people aged between 18 and 35 years called ‘Yuva Prahari’,” Bassi told the media.

“Under this scheme young adults, after attending a specially designed orientation programme by Delhi Police, will be part of the patrolling teams in the PCR vans operating in their area. They will assist the police team in handling the calls,” he said.

One killed in Somalia roadside blast

At least one person was killed and 14 others, including seven Kenyan teachers, were injured in a roadside blast in Galkcayo, a city in central Somalia, authorities said Friday.

“Our bus was heading to the market when suddenly we heard a huge explosion, which injured the teachers and killed the security guard. The bus was also extensively damaged,” Mohamed Abdulqadir Ali, principal of Yamays Secondary School, told Xinhua over telephone.

The seven teachers have been teaching in Yamays Secondary school located in the semi-autonomous region of Puntland.

Chinese biologists discover molecule behind bamboo flowering cycle

A team of Chinese biologists has discovered the molecule responsible for the coordination of the different genes involved in the mass flowering cycles of bamboo, a key food for panda bears, the South China Morning Post reported Friday.

The research could help explain the mass flowering of bamboo, a process that has raised more questions than answers and is especially sensitive in China since the plant is the food for pandas, China’s national symbol.

PM Modi congratulates ICICI for adopting Gujarat village

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated the ICICI group for launching its ‘Digital Village’ project and adopting a village in Gujarat, dedicating it to the nation.

The village adopted by the multinational banking and financial services company is Akodara in the Sabarkantha district of Gujarat.

In 2014, Delhi Police registered 4,000 senior citizens

A total of 3,970 senior citizens were registered with Delhi Police in 2014, police said Friday.

According to Delhi Police statistics, the total number of senior citizens registered with Delhi Police has now reached 21,505.

“Delhi Police have also completed the security audit of 20,553 senior citizens among those registered in the national capital,” Delhi Police chief B.S. Bassi told reporters at the Delhi Police annual press conference.

Bassi said in the last couple of years, a total of 18,766 senior citizens were given identity cards.

2014 records Delhi’s lowest road deaths in five years

Delhi has recorded the lowest number of road accident deaths in 2014 in the past five years, police said here Friday.

Delhi Police revealed that a total of 1,595 people were killed in 1,559 road accidents till Dec 15 as compared to 1,754 deaths in 1,715 road accidents in 2013.

Delhi’s roads took a toll of 1,866 people in 2012 compared to 2,110 in 2011, 2,153 in 2010 and 2,325 in 2009.

TMU stages protest at Bus bhavan

Telangana Mazdoor Union Executive President Thomas Reddy today condemned attack on Secunderabad RTC Regional Manager Satyanarayana by some disgruntled elements. Pension disbursement from Jan. 5 to 10

Keeping another election-eve promise, the TRS government has directed its officials to disburse pensions to the selected beneficiaries in Telangana State.
Panchayat Raj Principal Secretary Raymond Peter today issued orders to distribute pensions from January 5 to 10. He directed the Collectors of 10 districts to disburse the pension amounts to all eligible, according to information.
