India dismisses allegations of killing two Pak Rangers in J-K

India has dismissed allegations made by Islamabad about the killing of two Pakistani Rangers in the BSF firing on the International Border in the Jammu.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj wrote to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s Advisor on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz, dismissing contentions made by him in his letter of 2nd January 2015 to her.

Britan Ebola nurse in critical condition: Hospital

A British nurse, who was diagnosed with Ebola after returning from Sierra Leone, is now in a critical condition, a hospital said.

Doctors at the Royal Free Hospital in London said that Pauline Cafferkey’s condition was downgraded to “critical” BBC reported Saturday.

“The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is sorry to announce that the condition of Pauline Cafferkey has gradually deteriorated over the past two days and is now critical,” hospital officials said in a statement.

Weather believed to be factor in AirAsia crash: Indonesia

Weather was believed to be a “triggering factor” in the crash of AirAsia Flight 8501 into the Java Sea with 162 people on board en route from Indonesia’s Surabaya to Singapore, a met agency said in a report posted on its website Sunday.

“Based on the available data received on the location of the aircraft’s last contact, the weather was the triggering factor behind the accident,” Xinhua reported citing the official report.

Palestine to join Interpol in 2015: Official

The Palestinian national unity government has decided to join the International Criminal Police Organisation, commonly known as Interpol, a senior official says.

The Palestinian government will submit a request to join the organisation in 2015 ahead of Interpol’s annual meeting in November, Press TV reported citing Ahmad al-Rabie, a senior official in the Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Interior,as saying Saturday.

Rabie added that Palestine had submitted a request to join Interpol in 2011, but was only accepted as an observer.

31 militants killed in Pakistan air strikes

At least 31 militants were killed in Pakistan when jet fighters targeted militant hideouts in Koki Khel area of Tirah Valley Sunday, Dawn online reported cited an ISPR statement.

“Four terrorist hideouts and a suicide bomber training centre were destroyed. 31 terrorists including some suicide bombers were killed,” the statement said.

The army intensified its offensives in the tribal areas after the Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) massacred 150 people, including 140 school children in the Army public school Peshawar Dec 16.

Al Qaeda operative Abu Anas al Libi dies in US hospital

Abu Anas al Libi, an alleged al Qaeda operative accused of involvement in the bombings of US embassies in Africa who was captured by US special forces in Libya, died in a US hospital, CNN reported citing his son as saying Saturday.

The family was notified by his lawyer in the US that al Libi, whose real name was Nazih al-Ruqaii, died in a hospital Friday evening, Abdel Mouin told CNN phone from Tripoli.

7-Year-old girl is sole survivor of airplane crash

A 7-year-old girl walked away from a small-plane crash that killed four people, including two children, in southwest Kentucky, according to the authorities.

The state police said a Lyon County resident called the police after the girl showed up at his home in Suwanee, about a two-hour drive southwest of Louisville, saying that she had survived a plane crash, New York times reported Saturday.

The girl, who was not immediately identified, was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, the authorities said.

IS nabs people for wearing trousers in Syria

The Islamic State (IS) militants have apprehended a number of people for wearing pants on the streets in Syria’s eastern province of Deir Ezzor, media reported.

The terrorists detained a group of people wearing pants in the city of al-Mayadin in Deir Ezzor and took them to their security stations, Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (syriahr) reported Saturday.

The militants, then, informed the detainees relatives that they must bring “loose clothes” for the arrested people to be released.

Shiv Sena today held protests here demanding cancellation of Pakistani ghazal singer Ghulam Ali’s music show in the city tomorrow. Fifteen Sena workers were later arrested for holding the protests, police said.”Police today arrested 15 members of Shiv Sena at Karnavati Club in S G highway area here for protesting against Ghulam Ali’s show and lodged an FIR against them,” Police Inspector P V Jadeja in Anandnagar told PTI.

A case has been registered against Shiv Sena president in central Gujarat, Ashok Sharma, and 14 other members under IPC section 143 for unlawful assembly, Jadeja added.

Robbers kill girl, set body afire in Uttar Pradesh

An 16-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly strangulated to death and her body set afire by robbers when she resisted their attempt to loot her house in Ganeshpura area here, police said today.

The incident took place last night in the house of fruit seller Mahesh Jatav.

According to Jatav’s complaint, six robbers barged into his house while the family members were asleep, SP Rajendra Prasad Pandey said.

The robbers entered the upper floor of the house through terrace.

18 Taliban militants killed in NATO airstrike in Afghanistan

At least 18 suspected Taliban militants were killed Saturday, in an airstrike by the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) jets in the southwestern Afghan province of Paktika, an Afghan police official said.

The airstrike was carried out by helicopters in the strife-torn district of Yahya Khel near Afghanistan’s border with Pakistan, according to Nabi Jan Malakhel, a police official.

“The bombing took the lives of 18 Taliban (militants), including several foreigners,” Malakhel said.

India dismisses Pakistan allegations on Rangers’ killing

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has written back to Sartaj Aziz, Pakistan Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs, dismissing his contentions that BSF soldiers killed two Pakistani troopers “in cold blood”, said an official statement Saturday.

Aziz, in a letter to Sushma Swaraj Friday, had protested the killing of two Punjab Rangers personnelin Zafarwal sector and demanded a probe into the incident and for “bringing the perpetrators to account”.
