Intelligence agencies warn of hijack attempt on AI flight going to Kabul

Security around the country’s airports has been stepped up and all anti-hijacking measures put in place after intelligence agencies warned of a possible hijack attempt.

“Security around all the airports have been strengthened and we have taken all the measures that are required in the wake of the alert from intelligence agencies,” official sources said here today.

All anti-hijacking measures have been put in place, they said, adding that passengers’ checking has also been beefed up at some of the major airports, including Indira Gandhi International Airport here.

Will speak in language which India understands, Pak minister

Pakistan on Saturday appeared to threaten India with retaliation over the killing of its soldiers in cross-border firing, saying it will now “communicate in the language they understand”.

“In the past six-seven months, we have tried to better our ties with India so that peace can prevail. But it seems that they do not understand this language,” Defence minister Khawaja Asif told reporters outside the Parliament.

“I believe, we will now communicate with India in the language they understand,” he said.

Three killed, 25 injured in Bengal bus accident

A mad race between two buses trying to overtake each other Sunday led to the death of three people, and left 25 others injured in northern West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district, police said.

The accident took place at the Bandhunagar crossing on the national highway between Siliguri and Jalpaiguri towns.

A Dhupguri-bound bus travelling at a high speed tried to overtake another bus, but hit a pick-up van before colliding with a tree and an electric post.

Both the bus and the pick-up van overturned, and three people, including two brothers, travelling in the van died on the spot.

Police foil kiss-of-love protest

A “Kiss of love” protest planned by a group of youth against “moral policing and vigilantism” here today was foiled by police on the ground that it could lead to violence with the opponents attacking the gathering.

The organisers, calling themselves “kiss-of-love” workers, had planned to mobilise several youth to join the beach in the city to demonstrate by openly hugging and kissing, but were removed by police before they could reach the spot.

New App to Boost Social Skills of Autistic Kids

Researchers have designed a new app that can help kids growing up with autism develop basic social skills.

The app, called Look At Me, aims to train autistic children to maintain eye contact and convey basic emotions.

The app was developed by Samsung in conjunction with a multidisciplinary team of clinical psychiatrists from Seoul National University and Yonsei University, South Korea.

The app uses selected Samsung devices’ cameras, putting users through a set of points-based missions, ‘Gizmag’ reported.

Milad-un-Nabi celebrated with gaiety in Hyderabad

Milad-un-Nabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammed, was celebrated Sunday with gaiety in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana and neighboring Andhra Pradesh.

Meetings, processions, feeding of the poor, blood donation camps and ‘mahafil-e-milads’ or special gatherings in praise of the Prophet were held to mark the occasion.

The old city of Hyderabad was decked up for the occasion with green flags and huge banners tied on roads. Processions were taken out in several localities, which joined the central procession which started from the historic Makkah Masjid.

Jamie Dornan has admitted that he is not able to recognize his little daughter when he is away for work from family.

The Irish actor said that sometimes he was away for a couple of weeks without seeing his 13-year-old daughter when he was shooting for his upcoming movie ‘ Fifty Shades of Grey’, and when he used to come back he barely recognized his girl which was an awful feeling, the Mirror reported.

Parliament’s standing committee on defence, in its report tabled in the just concluded winter session, says there’s a shortfall of 447,000 ski masks, 217,388 high-ankle boots, 186,138 bulletproof jackets, 13,09,092 brown canvas rubber sole shoes with laces, and 126,270 mosquito nets.

Pak terror boat row: ‘Congress has touched an abysmal low’, alleges BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday alleged that the Congress has touched an abysmal low as far as politics is concerned by casting aspersions on a possible terror attack that was averted in the Arabian Sea.

“We are very sad that the Congress chose not to stand with the Indian Government and chose not to speak in favour of the Indian intelligence agencies. The Congress today has touched an abysmal low as far as politics is concerned,” BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra told ANI here.

Patra further demanded answers from the Congress for such a stand.

Delhi Police personnel despair: higher salary but no promotion

An estimated 20,729 Delhi Police personnel are drawing the salary of their senior rank but not getting the promotion they are entitled to, an RTI reply has revealed. Officers in the 80,000-strong police force told IANS there was widespread disaffection over the lack of timely promotions.

The sufferers are dominantly constables and head constables but also include assistant sub-inspectors, sub-inspectors as well as inspectors — the five categories which constitute over 80 percent of the force.

YouTube user Kenneth Brandon has solved giant Rubik’s Cube in 7.5 hours over the course of five days.

According to Gizmodo, the giant Rubik’s Cube has 17 cubes in each row and column features some 66.9 quinquagintatrecentillion possible positions, CNet reported.

Brandon, who posted the video on his You Tube channel RedKB, said in the video that the way one solves a 17 by 17 is just like one would a 7 by 7, or a 5 by 5 and if one could solve one of those then the 17 by 17 was not that hard, but it was very tedious.

Police launch probe into threat call to Air India office

A day after a threat call was received at the city office of the Air India, Special Task Force and detective department of the Kolkata Police launched an investigation while security has been beefed up at the NSC Bose International Airport here.

A special team set up with officials of the STF and detective department was trying to track the number from which the call was made to the national carrier’s city office, a senior police officer said.

According to doctors both the machines at the radiology department are around 15 years old and laying defunct. The cancer hospital’s OPD receives more than 1,000 people in a day.

Etela warns against diversion of fine rice

Govt. must take Air India hijack threat seriously: Uday Bhaskar

C and strategic analyst, Commodore (retired) C. Uday Bhaskar, on Sunday said the government must take the hijack threat received at the Air India office in Kolkata very seriously because the Kandahar hijack incident of 1999 had proved to be humiliating for the country.

“In the last few days, the intelligence agencies have received some alerts. These have to be taken seriously because India has gone through the humiliation of December 1999 when we had the Kandahar hijacking,” Commodore (retired) Bhaskar told ANI here.
