VHP to organise ‘Ram Mahotsava’ for building temple in Ayodhya

Seeking to “mobilise Hindus” and“remind them of their resolve” for construction of a Ram temple, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) is planning to organise ‘Ram Mahotsava’ for the first time on the lines of Durga Puja aross the country.

“We will celebrate Ram Mahotsava from March 21 or March 22 and it will continue till April 1. This will be for the first time that such an event is being organised by the organisation,” VHP Media incharge Sharad Sharma said today.

This programme would be organised in every village in thecountry, he said.

Five killed in explosions in Afghanistan

Four civilians and a policeman were killed Thursday in two separate bomb attacks in eastern Afghanistan, Xinhua reported citing the authorities.

In one attack, three civilians and one Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel were killed after a roadside bomb was detonated in Mehtarlam city, the provincial capital of eastern Afghan province of Laghman, the provincial government said in a statement.

Following the blast, which occurred at around 8.30 a.m., police launched an investigation and have arrested a suspected militant, the statement noted.

11 of family suffocate to death in Pakistan

Eleven members of a family died of suffocation in a house in Pakistan’s Balochistan province Thursday, a media report said.

Levies official Asmatullah told Dawn that all victims were members of the same family and had left a gas generator on before going to bed.

The bodies were shifted to the Civil Hospital in Pishin district for the autopsy.

(Siasat News): Rajendranagar police in two separate operations arrested two persons involved in stealing motorbikes. The culprits are a mistry and a student.

They used to steal motorbikes from a parking lot situated in Hyderguda. Police in a search operation arrested one Srikant, 30, said to be a student who was roaming in the area in suspicious manner near Himayathsagar.

Facebook ‘gets a lot done in 2014’ as it nets ‘strong profits,’ millions of users

Facebook has recorded profits of 701 million dollars in the fourth quarter, marking a 34 percent increase on the same period last year.

The company’s advertising revenue rose by 53 percent to 3.59 billion dollars, with 70 percent of the total coming from mobile ad sales, reported the BBC.

A statement released by the social media network quoted CEO Mark Zuckerberg as saying, “We got a lot done in 2014.”

Total profits for the year stood at 2.9 billion dollars, almost double the total for 2013.

India-based messaging app Hike adds voice-calling feature to Android app

India-based messaging app Hike has added a free voice-calling feature to its Android app.

The move comes just three weeks after the company acquired Zip Phone.

According to Tech Crunch, when Hike bought Y Combinator-backed Zip Phone, which allows users to make Wi-Fi-enabled phone calls, CEO Kavin Bharti Mittal said that it would allow the company to add free voice-calling, one of its most requested features from users, much more quickly.

The addition of a voice-calling feature gives Hike advantage over Facebook-owned Whatsapp, which does not have a voice calling service as of yet.

Ranchi police arrest Maoist commander

Acting on a tip-off, police arrested a Maoist commander in Ranchi.

The Maoist was involved in at least 15 cases including murder and extortion. He had launched a separate outfit named Jharkhand Gram Raksha Dal (Village Defence Party).

A special team was formed to arrest the Maoist, identified as Prakash Kerketta alias Arvind.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Prabhat Kumar, said the Maoist tried to flee but police cornered and captured him.

Paleontologists have discovered new species of a skeleton of a long-necked dinosaur in China, which lived 160 million years ago.

The species found by scientists from the University of Alberta paleontologists including PhD student Tetsuto Miyashita, former MSc student Lida Xing and professor Philip Currie, called Qijianglong (pronounced ‘CHI-jyang-lon’) is about 15 metres in length and lived in the Late Jurassic.
