The Government of Pakistan should ensure the security of the country’s religious minorities from judicial injustice and attacks by militants, Human Rights Watch said today in its World Report 2015.

Violent attacks on religious minorities rose significantly in 2014 as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s government’s failed to ensure protection for religious freedoms.

Molestation case turns communal: Hindu, Muslim clashed

Hindu and Muslim clashes were erupted in Meerut on Tuesday night where at least 10 people were injured after two sisters were allegedly molested by a group of local youngsters.

The incident occurred in Meerut’s Sarai Laldas area were the mob-pelted stones at each other’s and exchange fire and so the blame game continues.

The family of the girls alleged that the younger of the two had been at the receiving end of the boys’ for quite some time and therefore the elder sister started accompanying her. But the offenders started molesting the both.

One dead, three hurt in Delhi building collapse

A 30 year-old labourer was killed and three others were injured when an under-construction government building collapsed in south Delhi, police said on Thursday.

All the four labourers were working in the basement of the under construction three-storey building when one portion of it collapsed, trapping all of them under the debris.

The incident took place in south Delhi’s east Kidwai Nagar at around 9 am.

Police and officials of the fire department reached the spot and took all the injured to hospital, where Subodh Mandal died due to his injuries.

Tata Motors to use Rs 7500 cr rights issue money to launch CVs

Tata Motors intends to utilise Rs 7,500 crore, which it plans to raise via rights issue, to fund various activities, including introduction of more than 100 new commercial vehicles over next three years and passenger vehicles on new modular platform from FY 2016-17.

The company, which is seeking shareholders’ approval through a postal ballot for raising funds up to Rs 7,500 crore through a rights issue of ordinary shares, also intends to use the funds to expand in international markets.

Aussie author Colleen McCullough passes away

Australian author Colleen McCullough has passed away at the age of 77 at a hospital on Norfolk Island .

McCullough was a neuroscientist by training, and worked in various Sydney and English hospitals before settling into 10 years of research and teaching in the Department of Neurology at the Yale Medical School in the US, News.com.au reported.

McCullough suffered health problems most of her life and at 32 she was found to have hypothyroidism, which caused depression and weight gain.

Foreign Secretary Jaishankar calls on Sushma

Newly appointed Foreign Secretary Dr S Jaishankar on Thursday called on External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in the national capital.

Swaraj and Jaishankar greeted each other cordially and exchanged pleasantries. The meeting was a routine one.

Earlier in the day, Jaishankar took charge as the Foreign Secretary, replacing Sujatha Singh, whose tenure has been curtailed by nearly seven months.

“As I take over, I am happy to work with all of you. I am honoured that I have been assigned with this responsibility,” said the former Indian Ambassador to the US.

A 25-year old woman, Rita, died after Railway Protection Force (RPF) constables threw her out of a moving train near Varanasi.

A native of West Bengal, Rita, who was travelling to Kanpur along with her 18-month old daughter, brother and an uncle, died while undergoing a treatment at a government-run hospital here.

The incident took place at around 9.30 pm. The victim’s brother was also injured.

‘No obstacle in Janta Parivar merger’, says Lalu

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav on Thursday asserted that the work towards the merger of the Janta Parivar is in progress, adding there was no obstacle in its path of unison.

“For the unity of Janta Dal Parivar, there is no obstacle anywhere. We want to be united and we are united. This will happen,” Lalu told ANI here.

“We have started working towards the merger and for this, [Samajwadi Party chief] Mulayam Singh Yadav has been given the authority,” he added.

Retired Chief Justices of Bombay High Court to be treated as ‘state guests’

All retired Chief Justices of Bombay High Court, who have served for three years and are now residing outside Maharashtra, will be accorded status of a state guest.

As per a Government Resolution (GR), those who have served as Chief Justice of Bombay High Court for minimum three years and have settled outside the state after retirement will be treated as “state guest” during their visit to Maharashtra.

A proposal to this effect was pending with the state government, said the GR issued yesterday.

But the younger Sharif, who is the chief minister of Pakistan’s most populous Punjab province, owns more personal assets abroad, the Dawn reported.

Scientists warn Ebola virus has mutated

Scientists tracking the Ebola outbreak in Guinea have recently stated that the virus has started to mutate, which might make it somewhat less deadly but more contagious eventually.

Researchers at the Institut Pasteur in France, which first identified the outbreak in March 2014, are investigating whether it could have become more contagious, the BBC reported.

More than 22,000 people have been infected with Ebola and 8,795 have died in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia. Scientists are starting to analyze hundreds of blood samples from Ebola patients in Guinea.

82 UP towns to be brought under livelihoods mission

About 82 towns in Uttar Pradesh, including 75 district headquarters, will soon be brought under the ambit of National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM) to reduce poverty and vulnerability of the urban poor households by enabling them to access gainful self-employment.

Besides the 75 district headquarters, seven other towns having population of over one lakh will be covered under NULM to provide skilled wage employment opportunities to the urban poor, an official spokesperson said here today.

Force India backs out of Jerez F1 pre-season test

Formula one team Force India has backed out of the first pre-season test, saying that decision to withdraw was taken on account of limited learning opportunities.

Earlier, the team had indicated that they would be unable to test their 2015 car at Spain’s Jerez track.

A spokesman said that the decision was taken at the end of last week due to limited learning opportunities , the BBC reported.

RPO Hyderabad on top for issuing nearly 7-L passports in 2014

The Regional Passport Office (RPO) Hyderabad has topped the list in issuance of 6.95 lakh passports among the 37 passport offices in the country during 2014, a senior official said today.

RPO Hyderabad is the top and the largest RPO out of 37 Passport Offices with 7.17 lakh passport applications accepted and 6.95 lakh passports issued during 2014, Regional Passport Officer Ashwini Sattaru told reporters here.

ISIS eyeing Af-Pak, parts of India; appoints ex-Taliban terrorists as chief of Khurasan

The Islamic State militant group has announced its expansion in Af-Pak region and in parts of India with appointing former Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorist Hafiz Saeed Khan, 42, as the ‘wali’ or governor of Khurasan — a historic name used by militants for an area covering Afghanistan, Pakistan and parts of India.

In a video posted online, IS leader Abu Muhammad Al-Adni confirmed the name of former Talibani leader as the chief of the Khurasan.
